Worst hotel I've stayed at in my life! "Overbooked" despite calling me prior to confirm my arrival! This news was delivered with an indifferent attitude. Stay away. I've never stayed at even a 3 star with such woefully disappointing service. How could they even assume that moving hotels, packing, unpacking, checking in and checking out 3 times for a 2 night stay would fit my schedule?!

I went to Taipei to attend an event and decided to scout a new hotel, trying aloft since they're part of Marriot group.

Upon my arrival after work, the front desk told me they're overbooked and would need to put me in another hotel 10 minutes cab ride away for the first night and then move back to their hotel for the second night. I told them that can't be right as they called to confirm my stay. But they didn't care, they thought it was completely fine to move me at 8pm since they found another hotel for me, and would pay for the cab ride over, and then back the next morning. Which was

I WILL NOT COME BACK.

I stayed at this hotel for 11 nights on April 2024 as a Bonvoy member.

In the Bonvoy app it is stated that the room can be ready 1 hour after we notify them, they didn't make it.

HOUSEKEEPING & CUST SERVICE ARE HORRIBLE. Every hotel has a DO NOT DISTURB (DND) sign which means the same in every hotel, that the guest doesn't need housekeeping service. I'm a slow traveler who doesn't wake up early in the morning and works using my laptop wherever I want so I don't need housekeeping service everday. This place, despite the sign has been hanged they DON'T UNDERSTAND IT. They insert a card every early morning before noon into your room saying THEY CAN'T GET IN and do the cleaning. Of course you can't, that's why the sign is there. What's more horrible is they STILL CALL YOUR IN-ROOM PHONE and disturb you everyday about this housekeeping thing.

But when you DO need housekeeping, they are gone. There's one day when I need my room to be clean so I make sure I removed the tag. It was around 2-3pm that day, instead of cleaning my room, this housekeeping and customer service printed a letter (on the same day at 5pm) saying that I have been hanging the dnd sign for more than 48hours and that I need to report to the customer service otherwise they will force open the room when it reach 72hours. WTH.

I went out before you printed the letter, but because you didn't use your eyes very well I ended up getting a responsibility which is not mine at the first place. Additionally my room was not cleaned that day and I need to wait for the next day. And because they didn't do their job well I need to ask the receptionist by myself every time I need the housekeeping (for the rest of my stay) otherwise the same thing will happened again.

On the day I checked out I was denied a late check out despite being a bonvoy member and they kept calling my in-room phone and rush me to check out which I ended left some of my stuff in the room.

Receptionist was not friendly at all during my stay but by the time I checked out I saw them smiling ear-to-ear to the other customer who speaks Chinese (I don't speak Chinese).

WILL NOT COME BACK & WILL NOT...

[ ] 4N, 14-18Feb 2023 [ ] Room 0903 👍🏻 [ ] Transport: MRT by walk 👍🏻 Nearest Orange line: Zhongshan Elementary school station (left of hotel) Red line: Mingquan W rd station (right of hotel) [ ] Overall site - modern & new, small lobby, access to lift & room is easy 👍🏻 [ ] Balcony - super small balcony, fit 1 person. However this is a corner unit so there’s 3 big windows overlooking to the city, so not too bad [ ] Bedroom - spacious, king size bed, with TV and closet. Aircond is strong, just right and no sweat 👍🏻 [ ] TV channels - OK, mostly Taiwanese stations [ ] Mini bar - none. Just standard coffee and tea packs [ ] Friendly hotel staff - can ask recommendations for food nearby [ ] Housekeeping - great, almost everything refilled accordingly [ ] Wardrobe and luggage space - wardrobe sufficient size, dedicated luggage spot while no overall room size is large enough to place luggages on the floor, so not at issue 👍🏻 [ ] Bathroom - very big, separate toilet from bathroom 👍🏻. Dressing area can be separated from bedroom via sliding wooden door. Dressing area’s lighting not bright enough [ ] WiFi connection and strength is great - direct login & auto relogin wo pw 👍🏻 [ ] Breakfast - NOT included but there are cafe / local breakfast spots nearby, walking distance. For dinner, night market just steps away...

Which was < $US10 in total by the way. I was considering cancelling and booking someplace else but in Taipei, as usual there were no hotels available last minute to change to. Horrible service, what a waste of my time! Who has time to burn like that??? Not me! I'm sorry aloft but free breakfast as compensation the next day? I was in Taipei to see a world top 100 DJ perform. DJ's don't go on stage until at least 2am. I wasn't waking up early the next morning to eat a breakfast just so that aloft could say they "compensated" me. I had planned to sleep from 5-6am until 3pm the next day. I had booked TWO nights especially to do so. But because this hotel had this new plan for me and put me in another hotel for the first day, I was rudely awoken the next day to check out and move back to aloft. Could Aloft not just have kept me at the Doubletree both nights?! If this wasn't bad enough, when I got to aloft, the room smelt like cockroach spray! I was so tired at this point I figured once the aircon got running it would clear away. When I woke up the smell was still there and I had the worst headache so I left the room to get some fresh air and food. When I came back feeling alot better, as soon as I entered the room the smell overwhelmed me and caused a massive headache within seconds. So I asked the front desk to change my room and they sent a guy to check it out. This guy was the most honest of the whole hotel. He had his deodorising spray in hand but as soon as he entered he said, "this is bad I feel uncomfortable already, I'll talk to the front desk to see if they have another room for you." I couldn't even stay in the room to wait for them to sort it out because the air was so bad. The front desk kept talking about musty smell or maybe something the previous guest left. They refused to take responsibility and just fix the issue! The next room was better despite the dried passion fruit seeds stuck all over the minibar door and bathroom counter... Is this what Aloft front desk staff get a kick out of? Passive aggressive acts to "get back" at unsatisfied customers (even if legitimately so)??? This displays not only a lack of professionalism but one of downright immaturity in the hospitality field. This place needs to get their act together! Serious training, growing up or experience is required at the front desk. Thanks for reading this long post, if you're looking for a place to stay, look elsewhere, I certainly will NOT be recommending any clients stay here!

Location is great for adventurous travelers because it’s not in a touristy location and it offers you a more local experience. Lots of dining options, supermarkets, convenience store and cafes. A street food market is right behind the park which is also located behind the hotel. There are 2 metro stations nearby and a bus station right in front. It’s very easy to hail cabs in front of the hotel. You can also ask them to help you get a cab. Room sizes are bigger than most Taipei hotel rooms I have stayed in. Busy shopping areas are just a quick metro ride away or even just a 15 minute walk. We didn’t get breakfast with our rooms and chose to venture out for breakfast which was a lot of fun. Service was good and very helpful! Water is available in the room and you can always grab a bottle at the reception desk.

Hotel set up is really strange despite it’s a Marriott... first the washroom is beside a big window but...... just 50ft apart from other bldg.... I don’t want anyone watch me to flush so I have to keep the curtain down the whole stays. The lighting in room is pretty nice, stand up the name of Marriott but if you know how to turn them on. There are panels of button without indication and no point how they line up. So if you wanna switch on the sofa light, you may tuned on the light above bed and scold by your wife (..... sadly...). Rooms seems a bit old and like a hotel in China..... Beside those, room and comfort, AC is cold (I love it!!!), shower is very comfort too. room also very clean. Reason I gave 3 stars is I can get similar rooms for 1/2 price nearby.....
