BL Airport Hotel — Hotel in Dar es-Salaam

To start with, this was probably the worst hotel experience I had since sleeping a motel in the US that was charged by the hour.||||The first room received on the ground floor had no functioning AC, the person in the reception was very helpful and arranged for a new room right away. She was truly the only positive experience at the hotel.||||The second room given to me on the first floor had a working AC. The bathroom was heavily infested by black mould and the toilet was not working - I had to refill the toilet reservoir with the bidé shower. If the valve for the toilet was opened water was squirting all over the bathroom. The bathroom also had exposed electric wires sticking out from the walls which made the sprouting water even more exciting. ||||The TV had no functioning remote - I could only watch Bollywood movies. There was a complimentary toothbrush and toothpaste in the bathroom as well. The toothpaste was conveniently already opened. Now for the other hygien items. The towel was 100% used and the linen in the bed was only stretched. Heavy evidence of previous usage was lurking underneath the cover both in form of stains and smell.||||I have actually recorded a video from my night at the hotel, too bad i couldn't upload it. The manager’s communication prior to us arriving was excellent, but then the airport shuttle did not arrive despite us giving advance notice of the changed flight times. Several calls and approximately 40 minutes later (despite the hotel literally being 2 minutes away), the shuttle driver arrived. It was after 12am at this stage and the airport was deserted, so we weren’t pleased. The room itself was basic but very clean. Unfortunately there was no hot water - we tried again in the morning but no joy. The bed was quite hard but at least there was no noise from the airport. Breakfast was included but unfortunately my dietary requirements were not catered for even though I gave advance notice. Hotel was ok, staff was very nice. I landed late with my plane and asked for late check-in. When i arrived the receptionist was asleep in the couch waiting for me 🙂 she checked me in and took me to my room. A/C want working but i managed to fall asleep anyway. In the morning i went down and asked for breakfast. She said it wasn't ready yet and that i can go back to my room and they will call me. About 10 minutes later she calls and i went to the restaurant and got some nice local breakfast with strong tea, bananasmoothie, some eggs, noodles and sausages and some toast. So too my conclusion. Hotel want the greatest but the staff made it so much better with their engagement and friendlyness that they showed. Really genuine nice people. Do I recommend?
