After an adventurous and hectic safari in Tanzania we headed to Zanzibar. Our family had done a fair amount of surfing on the internet before we chose & booked Michamvi Beach House. |I had requested for an airport pick up. An hour and twenty minute drive later as we wound our way on a narrow dirt road through a local village, we kind of held our breath wondering what we were in for.||But the moment we stepped in through the blue gate it was exactly as shown in the pictures. A large airy, whitewashed, huge Zanzibari house with a thatched roof. 4 bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms, a huge living room with wifi. A flight upstairs was a family area, sofas, board games, books, a dining table and great views of the ocean. In fact there were three areas where we could choose to have our meals. The deck had a round dining table where we would have breakfast the choice of which was ordered the night previous. At the side, a few steps from the house, was a large beautifully decorated thatched sit- out/lounge which was where we chose to have our special Xmas dinner.|It was plain to see that the garden was well maintained, a covered swing and a big attraction was the large clean pool with coloured lighting at night. A stone tiled path led us to the edge of the property…three steps and we were in the ocean at high tide. At low tide we could choose to walk on the white sand beach.|The location was perfect, away from touristy crowds, walking distance from the iconic restaurant The Rock. The privacy and spaciousness of the property was awesome.|The Manager, Zander was a gracious host who walked us through the property and showed us all the amenities including a gym on the top floor. Being a keen fisherman we had the good fortune to taste different catch each day.|Breakfast and one meal was included in the tariff but the quantities were large so the chef would muster up enough for a delicious salad with the left overs. We told Richard that we were interested in the local cuisine and spices so he cooked up the most tasty fish dishes. Often helped by Pauline the 2nd chef. Masho the gardener was the early riser who would start gardening and cleaning the pool at the crack of dawn! Last but not least was the soft spoken, hard working housemaid and server - Naomi. Always eager to help and constantly ensuring that the villa was clean and tidy, the beds made neatly and that there was enough linen, especially beach towels.|One could ask Naomi to arrange for a massage, or to send for Ali the driver to take us to the nearby town Paje. Captain Octopus, yes that was his name, took us snorkelling, to a sand bank, a mangrove and to an area where we saw the most spectacular sunset.|What a lovely vacation! Thank you Zander and staff for making us feel so at home in your lovely property....
