Edit: To add insult to injury I was contacted by ANNA who attempted to imply I was delusional. See screen shot of email below. In every poor review ever written about experiences here they try to accuse the patron of lying instead of reflecting on what actually happened. Which speaks volumes of their character. Anna if you were there you would’ve known the owner said the only four men that were supposed to be in the yard that night were security guards and they wear a “ Mnana Bungalow T-shirt”. Am I making that up too? Because they weren’t the security guards they were sent away. Again may this be a learning experience for you! If I was robbed or harmed you would’ve probably still called me a liar. You can’t dictate to any person what happened to them especially when you were not there!||||||I’ve never in my three years of solo traveling have I ever felt so uncomfortable in my life I literally had to check out the night before the morning I was going to leave and pay for another hotel because the manager there made me very uncomfortable. ||||Let’s start by saying this is not the owner’s fault the amenities are beautiful but he needs to find a new manager. This is my personal experience so I’m going to tell it: The staff goes in your room even after house keeping when they think you’re away and touches your things. ||||There was a night where four gentleman were on the premise doing “yard work” at 9:00 pm at night ( I caught them scouting out my Bungalow and were startled by me when they tried to approach my Bungalow). Once I called the owner they all left. ||||Lastly I spoke with the “manager” (Mohammed)two days prior about a tour we did not schedule I stated we would finalize the day of. I decided to go on another tour because I was not comfortable going anywhere with him or anyone else that worked for him from the previous experiences. ||||He then proceeded to harass me trying to intimidate me for money. I went on my other tour came back and paid $40 to the receptionist Shakera with my owed food bill for this “tour” I never even scheduled. When the “Manager” came back he had a fit because the money was going to the owner and not his pockets. So I called the taxi company and booked another hotel somewhere else that night.||||Solo female traveler from one to another as long as that gentleman is still working there DO NOT STAY HERE. The Bungalows are very beautiful and the food was amazing but my entire stay was very uncomfortable I tried to leave after day one but the owner spoke with me and after the harassment I...
Read moreThe view is just breathtaking. I was in one of the beach-facing bungalows with the waves lapping no more than 20 metres from the end of the bed. To see the sunrise and the moonrise from your bed, as well as to see the traditional Dhow fisherman sail by every now and then was just magical. Sublime, even. Muhammed was always readily available to help organize and advise on tours and activities and to help with navigating the local area - ordering taxis, helping you to locate the nearest pharmacy or the nearest barber and so on. The owner Anna was extremely polite and made me feel very welcome indeed. The pool was always super clean and there are many lounge chairs, swinging beds and hammocks to lie on and enjoy the stunning view and the sun. Bliss. In general the accommodation was excellent value for money and very much in line with the standards in Zanzibar. I stayed at Mnana for 8 nights and while the food was excellent (especially the seafood) it did get a bit repetitive by the very end. There were frequent power cuts (beyond the control of Mnana) which meant that there were some times during my stay where the air conditioning, WiFi and hot water did not work. This wasn't so much of an issue though as I was not there to surf the internet but to enjoy the view. I would...
