By writing this review, I am doing something I promised myself I would not do, in the hopes of keeping the place almost all to myself - tell everyone how great Koh Kood is and how enjoyable Happy Days was to stay at. So much of Thailand is over-touristed, so much of it has lost its Thai character. Not so Koh Kood. It's one of the places I must eventually return to. A drawback of the island is that accommodation can be outrageously priced. The tourist office threw around prices like 3 or 4 or 5,000 baht a night for places without even a beach. Happy Days came in at under 500 baht for me. The place is well-located, a few minutes walk to a dreamy beach and the room was one of the more comfortably appointed ones I found in Thailand. The German manager was helpful and efficient and has created a setting that makes Happy Days more than a guest house - it is a meeting spot for travellers to gather and enjoy great comraderie in a relaxed setting. I'll end the review with a favourite memory : The Happy Days monkey and I had breakfast together. As I sat on the balcony outside my room munching granola and oranges, monkey was enjoying her meal in the yard, only a few metres away. It's that kind of place. Truly a...
Read moreThe room is basic, but comfortable and clean, and you get what you paid for. It has a good sized sleeping area with double bed and a wet room. The upstairs deluxe room has aircon, a veranda with hammock. There's hot water, pressure in the shower was poor. On the morning of my last day there was no water at all. Not sure if this was due to the water shortage. Wifi in the room was good. The location is good. There's a beautiful small beach across the road. And another about 10mins walk. Location was quiet. There's a restaurant on site and the prices are good. There's other restaurants, cafés, bars, supermarkets, on the same stretch of road. Chris and his wife Cherry own the place and they are what make this place outstanding. They're friendly and helpful, and will make sure your stay with them goes well. If you book an organised transfer the taxi will drop you off at the accommodation once you get off the boat. You can then book your onward travel with them. I stayed 4 nights. I wasn't well when I arrived and Cherry made me a rice and veg soup with egg tofu saying it was good for my...
Read moreI stayed there for more than one month due to getting some diving licences.||it is cheap and a higher price would not be justified. size of the rooms is OK, but there is no maintenance and some parts never have been cleaned (i.e. ceiling fan). pillows and matress look mouldy when you change the bedtclothes. it is caused by the high humidity during rainy season, but as a forwardlooking owner you should make preparations to avoid this. Sometimes water is short, and then it looks rusty. here is much room for improvement. As a longterm-traveller I have not so much problems with these items, but if you are vacationer, it could be disappointing. cheap and clean is no contradiction in terms. ||Postiv: very close to the beach with a small reef. Unbeatable are breakfast and snacks made by the owners partner. She is an excellent cook and offers yummy food. try the sandwiches with...
