Spent 6 wonderful nights in the Lamai suite at Outrigger Koh Samui. Lots of great things to say about this resort and some shortfalls which I'll get into below.
Overall our experience was excellent -- from the daily breakfast to the gym, game room, beach club (Edgewater) and the proximity to many good restaurants near by within walking distance.
Pros:
Edgewater Beach club - amazing and a great place to relax and watch the sunset. DJ plays a great mix of electronic music.
Proximity to great places to eat including Cabezas Muertas, Queen Burgers and more.
7-11 right next door! Super convenient.
Customer service and staff - professional and friendly.
5.. The breakfast buffet is a must. Delicious and a wide variety of things to choose from.
6.. Gym and game room are a really cool addition to the amenities offered at Outrigger. We enjoyed using both.
Lamai suite is really spacious and comfortable. Lots of places to sit, chill, read, nap. Bed was comfortable as well.
Cons:
Not so smart tvs: There are two LG tvs in the Lamai suite and neither one of them had smart app capabilities (YouTube, Netflix, etc). I don't expect for outrigger to provide free or logged in accounts for these platforms but the fact that it's 2023 and I'm unable to use YouTube or Netflix on at least one of the two tvs at a resort that opened in 2022. Mind boggling. What's worse is the tvs are set into the wall so you can't attach an HDMI cable either.
Airport Taxi: Ordered an airport taxi for 5:30 am through the resort for $750 thb and it was 20 minutes late to pick us up. When we were waiting for it to arrive I mentioned something to the front desk person who was working and it seemed like they had to call it in. As if they forgot to order it. If you're going to order a taxi, I would recommend booking at least 15-30 mins prior to when you actually want to leave.
Waiter at Edgewater: Had an attitude with us for whatever reason. Could use some extra training on how to treat guests. We were really kind with him as we always are and he was unresponsive and in a mood.
Service at the Beach club: Overall the service at the beach club is severely lacking. One evening we sat on the chairs directly in front of the beach for 2 hour and we're never approached once to see if we needed anything.
Lastly, the beach isn't great. It's dirty, lots of seaweed and some trash washed up on shore. If you're looking for a beautiful beach to swim at and enjoy this is not the place for you. You can walk left and walk along the beach and you'll find a slightly nicer part but honestly with all the the nice beaches available on the island you'll want to skip this one.
Overall we had a great stay at Outrigger but it has its cons so that's why I'm...

Read moreThere are many things to say about Outrigger. First and most importantly - this is not a five star hotel. It's a rather good 4 start. Service is just ok. It drives me crazy how waters don't know the simple fact that the starter is to start. Then people should get mains served and then deserts and then a good place offers coffee. That's not for discussion. Now everything is brought at once.... Restaurant is totally overpriced. Water for 7 euros...really.... Half-board offer is poor and you need a degree to understand it. Dear manager, make it simple, at least re-design a menu with proper visuals for better understanding. Kids portions are small. No way that a 9 year old (probably 8 year old boy) will get satisfied with the portion! The restaurant and pools being across the road is a bit weird...a busy street makes it complicated even if the hotel has 2 guards to help cross it. Activities offered by the hotel are a great idea, but they are very overpriced. For example kids braides activity is rather a selling service and not actual activity for the kids as kids don't do anything. Rather parents pay the bill for the service. Guided activities are outsourced, but they are bad. We did around the island tour and it was bloody poor. And that pretty much everybody's opinion that we spoke to. I didn't want to try anything else after. Rooms - spacious for sure. That's good. Architecture in general is nice, but some places need a renovation. For example bathrooms. The country club idea is great. You can get a free smoothie or coffee in very cosy environment. Liked it. Staff - was not impressed with the staff and manager when they showed some dissatisfaction with kids making a bit of the noise outside. Kids are kids and most of the guests are families. Therefore some warmer attitude would be welcome. Surroundings around the hotel would need some attention or rather proper management's attitude. Now it's like "across the fence is not us!". Yes, people dump the stuff across the fence, but that's beside your 5⭐ hotel!! Work with community, work with people, accommodate them to keep the place. At the end you make thousands...give something back! Beach is an other soar spot...clean it! Employees should get off the phones. Many times I approached them discreetly and they got a fright seeing me there as they were all on the phones. When customer comes asking for a taxi to the airport, you get that sorted for them. At least have all info, options, prices etc ready for customer to make a decision. Anyways, bottom line. This place has a long way to go to 5 ⭐ hotel. Until then it's a...
