Oh what an experience..... where to start Let's start with some positives shall we
Service 5/5 - Absolutley fantastic and almost flawless. Emmy helped us from beginning to end with all issues and was helpful and patient throughout. Even at check she explained that they had been having issues with the storm when we went there, and as we had rented a seaside villa we may notice some disturbace due to the high waves caused by the storms. We weren't sure exactly how bad this would be and they had offered to move us to another room more inland to avoid any issues overnight. When we arrived at noon, the waves didn't seem too bad to me so I suggested trying to stay in the seaside villa and if need be, then we could move in the night. She had suggested it may not be a good idea given moving at night can be tricky but was happy to let us make our own decision. During the night, given the storm, the resturant was closed down and we ordered room service, which was very good.
During the night time, when we were trying to sleep, the waves got larger and larger, and as they began hitting the foundations of the hotel, we could feel tremors increasing in size as the night went on to the point where the bed was shaking, my wife who was a deep sleeper was woken, and was terrified. It was truly quite a terriying experience, it was like having a small earthquake every minute or so, and at 10pm at night we weren't sure if this was going to get worse. The waves were splashing so high they were reaching our window and getting into the private pool area. At this point we rang reception to change rooms and the receptionist had said that they had already prepared the other villa in advance and we could move straight there. The storm was in full force with rain and wind, but the staff moved us quickly and without any issues to a villa further back from the shore.
The service from all the staff was generally top notch.
Rooms 5/5 - The seaside villa has an amazing view and generally speaking all the rooms were amazing. The large bathtub was nice and they have service where they run it for you with rose petals, it was a very enjoyable experience. The villas more inland are multi floored - 3 floors basically with living room as ground, then bathroom then bedroom. I actually enjoyed the more inland villas as it was more spacious. They all came with pools/jacuzzis.
Food 5/5 - Food was very good for hotel food, I can't think of many hotels were I've had better room service. The restaurant suffers from the same issues has location, but the food was decent.
Spa 3/5 - The spa experience was disappointing, given the price and when compared to other in the same price range, felt the service was lacking, the massage was very average.
Location 0/5 - oh boy. I mean from my story you can see what's wrong. This hotel was built far too close to the shore line. When the tide is up the distance between the waves and the seaside villas is far too close. I'm sure during calm weather there isn't any issues, but when there's a storm, this hotel is completley unacceptable.
I'm sure it's beautiful and perfect in when the weather is good, and I can imagine why people gave it 5/5 stars, but given our experience, all I can say is make sure you don't go when the weather is bad.
If this establishment had any integrity they would close down the hotel when there is a storm to avoid such a mess or disaster and relocate their guests in their sister branches because the experience we had with the storm was geniunely unacceptable I felt. As I said, thank god for their impeccable service team, otherwise this would have beena 1 star review and perhaps not only a large complain, but even lawsuit on...
Read moreWe arrived in Khao Lak on 1st March 2025 and originally booked to stay at the sister hotel La Flora to celebrate my 60th Birthday having stayed at the La Flora the year before. Having spent 4 days in La Flora we were offered an all inclusive upgrade to the sister 5* hotel Casa De La Flora for our remaining 10 nights and a chance to view the Casa prior to making our decision which we accepted. We decided to move the next day and all our luggage was transferred seamlessly whilst we were on a day trip and on our return we were driven a few minutes away to the Casa and booked into the Marble Queen suite with plunge pool and rooftop sun terrace. That evening and tired after our day trip we decided to eat at the hotel a’ la carte restaurant and arrived early to watch the stunning sunsets 🌅 from the beachfront location which is simply superb. We were greeted by the restaurant manager Aye and seated at our table which was waited on by two restaurant trainees Som and Klara who I gave to say were amazing and professional, obviously very well trained by a good team. The service was excellent and the food was 5* excellent quality and presented.
The following morning we arrived at 9am for breakfast which again is table served from the menus which are extensive and had lots of variety, we were served by June another restaurant trainee and Poo a full time staff member. Breakfast was leisurely and well paced at our table overlooking the sea which was idilc, the menu choices are many and can be personalised without question, nothing was ever too much trouble for staff, always happy to please with smiling faces which was so nice to see in the mornings and evenings 😁 Breakfast was served until 2pm which was ideal if you wanted a later breakfast or brunch along with the lunchtime menu until later afternoon. The hotel was pristine from the grounds, pool area, bar, restaurant and gym/spa, constantly cleaned and well looked after by lovely caring and attentive staff. We did have a problem one day with a leaking air conditioning unit in the bathroom and another which stopped cooling but both were repaired by maintenance within a couple of hours after raising the problems and every request made was seen to immediately to complete satisfaction.
In conclusion would I stay at Casa De La Flora again!? Absolutely and in a heartbeat, it was an amazing place to stay and after being shown one of the beach front suites during our stay there we would love to have one of those villas next time. I would like to thank the staff who made our stay there extra special and made us feel like part of the big family, we want to return and see you all again 😁 Fang - hotel manager for making sure our stay was seamless and special for my 60th birthday celebration 🥰 Aye - restaurant manager who made sure our food and service experience was exceptional and always with a big smile 😁 Som, Klara and June the restaurant trainees who all did an amazing job looking after us each morning and evening, they were a ray of sunshine and always had happy smiley faces and did a great job…..well done and...

First of all I’m a local Thai person living in Bangkok and when most people heard that I was staying at Khao Lak every single person was like “Isn’t that where the Tsunami happened? Are you a little spooked out about the place?” Well, depending where you are from and what you believe in I did was a bit hesitant … and doing a bit research on some articles I read this hotel location was also one of the locations that was hit hardest by the Tsunami meaning to what your imagination might lead you to think….
However, all of this was left behind and forgotten when I arrived at the hotel! The hotel is a smaller hotel but it was absolutely beautiful and stunning with it’s modern design! The room we had which was a Duplex Grand Pool Villa which was beautiful and had a slight view of the ocean! Bathroom amenities were top notch from THANN and not to mention that we were offered a free preparation for a milk bath too [Bath Tub was HUGE!] ! Mini bar was free, welcome drinks, and a bottle of sparkling wine! Truly felt special with the service and the care that they gave to us. The room also had a smaller plunge pool which was really nice to just sit back and chill during the day. The only downside to this room is if you are traveling with small children might not be ideal as because with this great modern design there a lots of edges and areas that children may be able to fall through. The hotel does warn you about this on the website too I believe.
The main pool Is nice but since it is a smaller hotel it might not be as grand as you would expect like bigger hotels… but from there you can see the beautiful sunset with some really great cocktails [Make sure check out their happy hour/promotions].
Beachfront views… Yes it is right on the beachfront but note that it doesn’t really seem like a beach that you would go out and start swimming in as the tides are quite rough and during high tide there is not beach to sit on except for the area that the hotel has provided which also is nice.
Food - I have to say the food here whether it be breakfast, lunch, or dinner is absolutely superb! The presentation and detail that was done in presenting everything was really well and the staff here are very helpful and friendly. I do want to note that this you might not get super high level service like international High end standards but this is a more of a local-friend to friend- being helpful type of service which at the end serves and works.
To summarize I would definitely recommend Casa De La flora for those who want a more quiet, modern-chic, high quality, and local experience. If you’re looking for a hotel that is busy with lots and lots of people this might not be for you. This is a more of a relaxing retreat for honeymoon couples type of vacation [still doable for people with family as we came with our 1 year old daughter and she absolutely loved it]. And I would like to recommend to any “Asian/Thai” readers to not hesitate and stop worrying … there ain’t no...
