Iberostar Selection Mirage Hammamet — Hotel in Maghreb

I honestly don't even know where to begin. This hotel is not an Iberostar. This hotel is Mirage resort and spa. It’s literally in the middle of nowhere—far from the center, far from everything. This is not a five-star hotel, people! Don’t be fooled into coming here! They're using the Iberostar name just to inflate prices and fill the place up. Every second guest is at the front desk asking for a refund.

To start with, we waited seven hours—yes, seven!—to check in. We had paid for luxury rooms next to each other, but they weren’t even on the same floor. Most of the facilities aren’t working—the beach bar, for example. And to top it all off, nobody at reception speaks English! Not even the head receptionist!

They charged us 80 euros for a tourist tax! The only good thing was the food, but when the hotel is full, you have to wait for someone to leave just to get a seat outside.

I’ve been at this resort in April 25 for 4 nights. Although it is not an European 5 stars hotel, it is a good resort, very clean, decent food and both the beach and pool are nice.

I only have two negative feedback:

(i) excursions: we paid 80€ for a camel ride which was supposed to be a 2.5h experience in the countryside / mountain but was actually a ride in a place few minutes away from the hotel full of trash and construction debris - I did not expect such a poor experience offered by a 5 stars hotel;

(ii) transfer: I asked for a transfer from the hotel to Tunis airport and the reception charged 50 TDN more than the standard fare, justifying it with an early pick up fee - the same day a transfer company in Hammamet offered 120 TDN defining 170 TDN “excessively expensive ”. I would expect for a 5 stars hotel to be fair (in Tunis we paid 120 with the private chauffeur of the Hotel Africa,...

BEWARE of this hotel! This is NOT Iberostar!!! This is advertised as such on package holiday website but it’s a dirty and unkept hotel called Mirage Spa! They falsely advertise as Iberostar to get customers! Even the management confirmed that this is not Iberostar hotel YET, we found a dead mouse outside our room, we were given a. Room with previous guests dirty sheets on the chai and stripped bed. No towels in any of the rooms, no amenities in the bathrooms, dirty algae at the bottom of the kids pool, rotten strawberries!

We are still waiting for On the Beach and Iberostar to resolve this for us as we paid to stay at a 5 star Iberostar, not a dirty 2/3 star hotel. If you want to see Thai hotels real reviews look at the google reviews for Mirage Hotel...
