I chose Bakırköy because I was told it's a safer area. I looked up the best value and highest rated hotel which was Hotel Kuk. What got my immediate attention was that they identified as a Family Hotel, meaning that there were no hourly bookings and shady guests. Major PLUS! I was happy with the reception, their friendliness and willingness to help when we needed anything. They were lovely girls and the hotel owner was a gentleman.
Breakfast wasn't included in the price which I was okay with. We were happy with the 'pide' place nearby. The internet did cut out a few times and they had a tech have a look it. They reset it every time I told them so they were generally very responsive. Rooms were adequate and the cleanliness was very good. There's no TV and I've found that TVs in smaller hotels tend to be very small anyway so I didn't mind. The cleaning ladies were so sweet and friendly also. It really does feel like a home away from home when everyone is nice.
Hotel's a short walk from the train station, buses and 'dolmuş' which takes you to the metro in 10 mins. Lots of shops nearby too. Good luck trying to get a taxi in the evening- that's how it generally is these days - but not a big deal because of other available transport. Overall I was happy and ended up staying 2 extra days. I'll be coming back here when I return to İstanbul...
Read moreOne of the cheapest hotels around the airport. It is about 10 minutes and 25 TL from the Ataturk airport with a cab, perfect for a layover.||People at the hotel were kind and helpful, their English was good enough for everything we needed. I loved the bed with a firm mattress, and I appreciated the cleanness of the bathroom. All this said, everything else was sub par: the room was very small, the carpet should have been changed 5 years ago, or at least cleaned last year. Room view was another building you can jump to for how close it was. Very simple but decent breakfast, watching the waitress feed the seagulls.||Like previous reviewers say, the neighborhood is interesting, lively and with a lot of dining option: we ended up in a kebab shack suggested by the hotel (no English spoken), and then we had tea and baklava in a cafe' on the other side of the street. Everything top quality and bottom price.||All that said, this is a very interesting solution for a cheap layover near the airport with the chance of enjoying some of the charm of...
Read morePerfect place to stay in transit. We had a family room with five beds. The room was clean, good wifi and a nice breakfast with a view. Lots of shops and places to eat near the hotel and also two big malls 500 meters away. In fact the area was so interesting we didn't bother going in to the city during the half day we had before our flight. Like other say - taxi drivers don't know this place so a map is good to have. WARNING - google maps have absolutely no idea where this hotel is. Our driver had to ask several people before we found it at a completely different place. Also google maps shows the metro to be right by the hotel, but it is in fact several kilometers away and you need to take a yellow shuttle bus with a sign "metro"...
