I arrived at the Makerere guest house to find that the room I received looked nothing like the inviting pictures, with stained old furnishings and a cramped, dingy and dark aesthetic. Worse, during the rainy season, when every airport was checking for yellow fever docs, the room had no mosquito net and none was provided despite me asking twice. To cap this off, the toilet was dirty (covered in dried urine) and the seat was not even attached to the toilet, sliding off whenever you sat down. ||I raised these concerns with management, but given the late hour, they asked to resolve it in the morning. Needless to say, I slept poorly and awoke covered in bug bites. When I raised the issue again in the morning, the new person behind the desk, was barely apologetic and said that they could not change the room, because they were completely booked, which contradicted the words of the previous manager. I made it easy by freeing up a room on the spot and finding another place to stay in Kampala. Note, there was no discount on the rate I paid, despite the disgusting condition of the room. ||Stay elsewhere, it's not worth the...
Read moreI stayed at the guest house for 12 days , i read prople's reviews before i checked in and it helped me alottt so here i am , the best room type u can get is the single occupancy douple room mine was 107 it was good make sure you have hot water becuase room 109 wich a freind stayed in had off and on hot water lol and make sure you ask for a fan before checking in because it can get hot sometimes , its quite clean not 5 stars but not bad . Make sure you dont leave your laptop or money or jwellery or so in the room the cleaning lady warned me , mmmm and go put 7:30 max for breakfast or else you wont find anything to eat , its perfect for people who want to stay near makerere university as its ofcourse in it right up from the main gate , pointless to book twin rooms it wont save u much by the way so unless you are a couple and couldnt find a double room dont book twins. The things tht sucks in that guest house is their menu it seems like they dont have anything really most of the menu is not available am afraid just like i read in another review but try the fried tlabia fish with chips its good and...
Read moreI have been staying at the Makerere Guest House periodically since 2008 and while I love certain aspects of the experience, others are really beginning to wear on me. For the positives, I love the campus, a clean and quiet haven adjacent to the bustling Wandegeya neighbourhood of Kampala. I also enjoy the free breakfast buffet, wifi, and the friendly staff. ||||However, the value for what you are paying for seems to be decreasing over time as I discover other gems around the city. The place is in serious need of a renovation; furniture and bedding seems to have survived Ugandan independence, Amin, and the LRA insurgency. I have not been sleeping well at MUGH due to the lumpy, uneven bed and tiny, claustrophobia-inducing bug-nets - this is very important to me.||||Will I go back? I think I am ready to discover...
