We recently had the pleasure of staying at Bathen House for a night to celebrate my partner’s birthday as a little staycation, and we had an absolutely wonderful time. From the moment we arrived, we were impressed with the hotel’s welcoming atmosphere, thoughtful details, and excellent service.
The first hotel was easy to find and was a short drive for us from Bristol. Parking in Bath can often be tricky, but Bathen House offers ample free parking on-site, making our arrival completely stress-free. Upon entering, we were greeted by a friendly and professional staff member who checked us in smoothly and gave us all the necessary details about our stay. They explained breakfast times and introduced us to the hotel’s unique honesty bar, which was located in a beautifully designed lounge area. This was such a lovely feature, allowing guests to make their own drinks, including cocktails, with helpful recipe cards provided. This added such a personal and homely touch to the experience.
For our stay, we booked Room 11, which was a generously sized and beautifully decorated space. The room had a calming and elegant feel, perfect for a relaxing night away. One of the standout features was the large bathroom, which included both a spacious bathtub and a separate shower—ideal for unwinding after a long day exploring the city. The hotel clearly pays attention to small but meaningful details, such as the complimentary soft drinks and sweet treats left in the room. Another thoughtful touch was the inclusion of a separate makeup remover face cloth in the bathroom, something I don’t often see in hotels but really appreciated. It’s these little things that made the stay feel extra special.
The comfort of the room was another highlight. The bed was incredibly comfortable, with soft, high-quality linens that made for a great night’s sleep. The temperature in the room was just right—not too hot or too cold—and the overall atmosphere was peaceful and quiet, ensuring we woke up feeling well-rested.
Breakfast the next morning was another fantastic part of our experience. The hotel’s restaurant, Bouvardia, serves as the dining space in the mornings, offering a relaxed yet refined setting. There was a great selection of food available, with a self-serve area offering fresh juices, pastries, fruit, yogurt, and cereals. For our main breakfast dishes, I opted for the eggs benedict, which was absolutely delicious, while my partner enjoyed a full English breakfast. The portion sizes were generous, and the ingredients were of excellent quality, making for a truly satisfying start to the day.
Another advantage of staying at Bathen House is its convenient location. While it is slightly outside the main city center, it is still very easy to get into town. We chose to take a quick 10-minute Uber ride, but the walk into the center is manageable for those who prefer to explore on foot. There are also bus links nearby, providing multiple options for getting around.
Overall, our stay at Bathen House was truly delightful, and we wouldn’t hesitate to return. From the warm hospitality to the beautiful rooms and delicious breakfast, every aspect of our visit exceeded our expectations. It was the perfect place for a relaxing and memorable staycation, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a high-quality boutique hotel...

When greeted the receptionist was lovely and helpful and showed us to our rooms and even offered to help with our bags! The plus side to staying at Bathen House is the fact that it offers free parking, which is great when visiting Bath City Centre - which is just a 5-10min drive away! ||Our Room was spacious, bright but still kept that cosy feeling. Our room also offered an even more spacious bathroom with a beautiful built in bath. The bed was super comfy and i had no trouble falling asleep here! The Hotel was very quiet itself and considering it’s on a very busy road I did not hear traffic at all really. The only downside I would say is staying in room number 1, it is separate from the other rooms which is lovely and private but I believe it is right under the reception area so could hear the floorboards creaking every now and then. This wasn’t a massive issue as when it came to going to sleep I slept right through even though I’m a light sleeper, but we were woken up by the floorboards creaking in the morning. The room we stayed in had some really beautiful decor and so much space. The room offered everything you needed from a selection of teas and coffees (and hot chocolates) and there were even some naughty little snacks which were all complimentary! We had a minibar in our room which was stocked of water and Pepsi! For those of you who also like to lock their bits away when you’re not in the room they do also have a safety box which is quite handy! ||They do have a bar at Bathen House which offers an ‘honesty policy’ but we didn’t spend much time in here. The bar is still very clean and a very chilled room situated on the same floor as reception and the restaurant. ||The bathroom is beautiful and big and had underfloor heating which was lovely when getting out the bath! You have to take full advantage of the big bathtub when you stay here because they are absolutely huge! I liked the fact we had our own robes and even had a ‘makeup remover’ wash cloth and a box of cotton buds and balls, which I found super handy! ||Once we woke up, we made our way down to breakfast which is served between 8am and 10am and was included in our stay. There was a great selection at the continental stand such as Pastries, cereals, fresh fruit, juices, teas and coffees but they also offer cooked breakfasts so we went for the full English of course. ||Overall I would highly recommend visiting the Restaurant or the Hotel (or both!) for a lovely romantic meal and getaway. You are away from the hussle and bussle of the City but not out in the sticks so you're too far away from anything! Both The restaurant and Hotel had the most elegant touches and I absolutely loved visiting here. I will definitely be booking back here when needing to stay...
