Excellent restaurant service and delicious food in the Italian restaurant. The starters of bread with pesto and oil was amazing as were the garlic mushrooms. For mains we had lasagne and spaghetti bolognese. One of the best Italian main meals that I've ever had.

However, ROOM 28 (The executive room) that we paid £85 for was far from executive. It came with a poorly cleaned room with pubic hairs on the spar bath, drawers and storage areas that had taking a few decades of battering, a mouldy bathroom and the whole room stunk of damp. On top of this we we located next to room 29 that was also an executive room but had an inconsiderate couple staying that were up at early hours of the morning talking at high volume, running the spar bath, having music blurring that vibrated the paper thin walls and constantly going outside into the communal entrance to have more early morning debates on their phones while smoking cigarettes that stunk. This got reported to the night porter who was extremely helpful and showed empathy towards our entire situation. Possibly because he has had to do this a thousand times before after reading some of these reviews back. He relocated us a non executive room (ROOM 22) that was a little better and we had a better night sleep. He also compensated us with 2 x free full English breakfasts worth £11 each. The hospitality at breakfast was first class but the breakfast had not be rated as okay as the beans were not hot and coffee was sent back as it was stone cold. Upon walking out of the restaurant after breakfast the whole grounds smell like rotten drains. I asked a young worker who was moving cardboard to the rubbish collection area what the smell was and he said he couldn't smell anything. The smell was overpowering and was actually making both myself and my wife literally heave. We could even smell it driving away in the car with all the windows up.

This place is well worth a visit for it's Italian food but the rooms and overall experience are not...

The whole evening meal was a shambles and total disappointment. With extremely poor customer service.

The first disappointment was a 20 minute wait on drinks , when we ordered our 5 meals and 2 cheese garlic breads we asked twice if all food could come at the same time. As you could see the restaurant was over booked and ALL tables seem to be looking rather disgruntled and waiting. After 10 minutes 2 kids meals and garlic breads come to the table , leaving us waiting on our youngest food and 2 adult meals. Our 2 children finished their meals and 30 mins after our meals arrived wrong !! We was given hot pot but wanted lamb shank. They was took away to be brought back to the table 7 minutes later, finally with our youngest meal. We was told there's no lamb shank left but we can have the hot pot or a pasta dish as there quick !! We declined and said we want pudding menu, as the older two children where getting restless. After 10 minutes I went to search for a waitress and asked for 3 sundaes for her to return to our table 10 minutes later asking what flavour. The 4 tables which where in our area also had similar experiences steaks not cooked correctly, they had ran out of there food they had ordered and waited half an hour for , search for staff to get drinks , orders etc the list is endless, no one seemed to be having an enjoyable evening. Whilst paying for the bill the manager seemed to forget about the government scheme of 50 % off even though there was a sign clearly stating to be apart of it. We was given free ice creams to make up for the 1hr 55 min waiting around meal also having to cook meals when we returned home. As waiting 50 +mins the wrong meal to turn up twice and then offered a quick easy meal option whilst your 3 children had finished and got bored was not a great option either. Poor poor service and management , definitely won't be returning...

I booked for 2 nights as I was getting married in Lancaster the next day and staying again after the wedding. I stayed alone the first night and my bridesmaid had a separate room. When I arrived reception refused to tell me if she had booked in, even though I had paid for her room. A lovely parking attendant helped me with all my bags. The room was ok. But no phone, no room service, only 2 useable plugs (the rest were odd pins), no air conditioning, bathroom sink in the bedroom, no where to hang anything in the bathroom. I booked a table at the restaurant for 4 people. 3 of us arrived and the other was told that we hadnt arrived and they sat her at a different table by herself, took 10 minutes for her to realise that something wasn't right and they told her we definitely hadn't arrived (they had taken my name and seated us). The food was good, it took ages to get drinks.....And then the power went out......for 3 hours. We managed to finish our meal but nobody said anything. Going back to a pitch black room alone was awful. This place is not family friendly. My neighbours were fighting into the night and it was pitch black. There were cigarette butts all over the floor outside the rooms. I nearly went home but that would have caused too many issues with the wedding preparations. Our pre-wedding meal was cut short due to the power outage and i/we were not offered compensation for a disrupted stay. I just wanted to go home. The only saving grace for me was the lovely lady serving breakfast and the helpful parking attendant. I was almost too embarrassed to bring my new husband here after our reception. Does nobody care anymore? Maybe this will be funny one day....

Absolutely loved our time at Guy's Thatched Hamlet. We wanted a family time due to it being my birthday and we took advantage of a great offer they had on. An over night stay including breakfast and £15 off per couple for evening meal at the Italian restaurant. The bedroom was not what I was expecting, it was like a premier Inn style but still in keeping with the traditional set of the thatched buildings. Just a few stains here and there, nothing that a lick of paint wouldn't fix. I would definitely stay here again! The food was outstanding but that's always the way as we've been a few times for food just not stayed over. One thing I would suggest if they read this is to possibly sound proof the walls in the rooms as the walls are thin and you could hear next door just talking but nothing that much to put us off. Loved it!!

Room 31 (Deluxe Executive Room) - Spotless and spacious room, the en-suite bathroom with spa bath was a real treat. The bed was comfy and we slept well. (one slight niggle was someone setting the fire alarm off at 1.30am) BUT no fault of the hotel and the staff were very apologetic. We had breakfast the following morning which was excellent. The man who served us (sorry we didn’t get your name) was very pleasant & efficient. Canal side Tavern & Staff - Covid safe. Staff all wearing a face mask or visor. One way system marked with arrows on the floor. Excellent menu both food & drinks, plenty to choose from. We loved the Traditional Cask Beers on offer (Viking Golden Ale). I have nothing bad to say about our experience in the tavern. Thank you for a fabulous stay. I’m already looking to book and stay again!

We decided to stay over night at Guys thatched hamlet, we know of this lovely lil place due to both myself and my husband attending college down the road, its a nice quaint place, if your expecting new and modern then this isn't the place for you, The hamlet is an old building , lovely inside we had the double executive room which has a double spa bath with a TV, can't fault it, the building is alil dated but adds to the character, we decided to eat at Owd Nells next door to Guys a traditional pub with lots on the menu , food is plentiful and value for money, Breakfast again we had in Owd Nells there's more than enough food for the money overall I'd recommend a stay to anyone who likes and appreciates old buildings by the canal, staff also very helpful Will definitely stay again 😀
