Allegedly a Four Star hotel, my experience has been very short of this. While I appreciate that, at the time of my stay, Covid has affected the hospitality industry hard, the faults at this Jurys Inn are more fundamental and cannot be attributed to the current pandemic. The review beneath is my experience of four nights at this hotel on a company trip. As such, I did not personally pay for any of the services.
My room was extremely warm, and only around ten in total have Air Conditioning. I was not one of these select lucky few guests, and had to suffer with a window that opened three inches and a lethargic fan. Strangely, neither the bathroom nor main bedroom has a main overhead light. The room has a ceiling light on the small corridor by the door, two reading lights and a table lamp. It gives the room a somewhat dingy feel. This is positively welcoming compared to the bathroom, though, which sports a shaving light above the mirror and nothing else. As this is lower down than the shower curtain rail (of which was unclipped and falling down in several places upon my arrival), having a shower is a gloomy experience. The seals around the counter-top over the toilet had all come away, and this slab was completely loose. The window sill in my room was also broken and loosely fitted, potentially being a safety hazard. Beneath this, a huge chunk of missing plaster and several large cracks do not give a Four Star impression. One morning at 06:10, the room landline rang several times. I did not request such an early wake-up call, and this was most annoying.
The main restaurant is closed still at the time of this review, thus I had three evening meals from the bar menu. I would highly recommend not eating here. The Chicken Tikka Masala was horrific, the Naan bread rock hard. The "Tower" Burger was three inches tall, and tasted of charcoal with a slight onion edge. The Pepperoni Pizza I thought to be a cheap supermarket rush job, along with the garlic bread from a frozen multi-pack. I asked about this, only to be assured the pizza was made in house. On desserts, I can only assume the Banoffee Cheesecake was defrosted in a hurry in the microwave and had an unpleasant blend of being simultaneously lukewarm and cold in places, and the Brownie with Chocolate Sauce was a traybake slice with some tinned chocolate custard. Each main is at least £14, and each dessert £6. Had I not had a food allowance, I would have asked for a refund on my first night and gone elsewhere. Extremely disappointing quality for the price. I do not wish for this to reflect poorly on the floor staff here, who are clearly under a lot of pressure. The hotel absolutely needs modernising and the menu needs a full refresh from the ground up. If you have a choice of where to stay, do not...
Read moreWe have just returned from an overnight stay for my birthday, checking in was straight forward. The lovely Chloe checked us in and also upgraded our room to a suite which was very much appreciated. One thing we immediately noticed and something that ruined our stay and will stop us from returning is how hot the rooms are, we had two fans on the go continually and the windows open and it was so unbearable, I couldn’t even blow dry my hair because it was too warm. We ventured down to the pool/jacuzzi and had a fab time, it was refreshing after being so warm. We headed back up to our room to find hotel staff in the room, the one lady we found quite abrupt, she explained how someone had left a tap on in our room (??) and it flooded and had gone into the room underneath us. We felt quite awkward as we believe the lady thought it was us despite explaining we hadn’t used any taps as we hadn’t long checked in and that we heard hissing coming from the bidet but it was nothing really of concern, it was just a sheer observation. The hotel staff suctioned a lot of the water off the floor however the carpet was still soaking wet, as much as this was annoying as you had to walk through soaking carpet and dry your feet off before getting into bed, we tolerated it as it was only a 1 night stay and due to being upgraded. There is clearly an issue with the plumbing in this room as the bathroom then smelt like drains and the shower only trickled out which was a nightmare.
The beds were really comfy and huge and there was a mini fridge with 2 drinks and chocolate in there which was nice. The breakfast we had was lovely with a nice bit of variety, we also had drink vouchers and a free bottle of Prosecco which we enjoyed.
The sofa in the suite was very uncomfortable but we made it into a sofa bed to relax and watch tv which was alot comfier. I would also like to highlight that the housekeepers knocked on our door at 9:45am and asked when we are leaving as she wanted to clean. When I told her I was not checking out until 12pm, she thanked me and left. However, should I have been asleep and been woken up by this, I don’t think I would have been best pleased, if we didn’t choose to have the breakfast, we definitely wouldn’t have been awake when she knocked. I do think they should only be knocking the doors of those that have checked out. Apart from that, the service and facilities is what made this hotel great but apart from that we won’t be returning...
Read moreWe stayed in this hotel for 2 nights and had a good stay. We travelled from Nottingham by train and the hotel was a 30 minute walk from the train station. There was paving all the motorway/ roads and it was easy to get to with the use of google maps. We also went to Cheltenham town centre on our second day which was a 25 minute bus ride and 10 minite walk from the hotel (Red 99).
The room was light and spacious - we stayed in a standard double which came with an extra bed! Tea and coffee making facilities were available as well as a hairdryer, extra radiator and iron. We had forgotten toothpaste but luckily there was a 'grab & go' onsite shop selling a range of snacks, drinks and toiletries close to the reception.
The room came with an ensuite, which had a shower over a bath with complementary shampoo/ conditioner and shower gel. The room had air conditioning but it wasn't very strong, which wasn't great for me as I get got flushes. Bring a fan if you visit in the summer!
We also attended the swimming pool, which was complementary with our stay. The pool was fairly big and there was a large jacuzzi, steam room and sauna. There were 2 saunas, 1 in each changing room, which wasn't ideal as me and my fiance wanted to go in together. The sauna in the ladies changing room was cold as well.
We decided to have room service for dinner instead of going to the restaurant, and the menu was easily accessible through a QR code in our room. The food was great - go for the burger if you decide to have room service, its delish! We also got 10% off drinks at the bar (open 6-9pm Mon-Sun), which we attended on the second night.
We also had breakfast both mornings (served in the restaurant between 7am-10am Mon-Fri and 7am-11am on Sat- Sun) which had a good range of cooked and continental foods. Really tasty and kept me full till the evening!
Overall, we had a really good stay and would come back if we return to Cheltenham for an...
