Good quiet position well located for the town centre. Arrived and was attended to by a polite gentleman who billed me for the late checkout the following day but which hadn't been noted. Ground floor room as needed. On entering the room it was very dark and dingy with very poor lighting. The bathroom had the best light and was fairly modern. Beds were comfortable. Room decor was tired with some peeling paintwork and loose fittings. Rooms overall manageable for 1 night but very much overpriced. Reception area was light and clean. Dining area sat a maximum of 18 was clean but tired , bare and uninviting. Old plastic chairs and tables . Breakfast was 1 fixed price for a serve yourself irrespective of if you had cooked breakfast or continental. Good selection of cereals, yogurts, fruit available including dairy free and vegetarian. Hot food was fair with 8 items to select from but the amount available was minimal and the food was warm rather than hot. Hot water for the drinks came out of the machine very scummy and cloudy and again could have been hotter. Admittedly I didn't go for breakfast very early! Late morning the Sleeping do not disturb sign was taken off the door and cleaning equipment and trolley moved close by. At just past 12 the door was knocked by 2 cleaners who were adamant that we had overstayed and needed to check out. Eventually they understood that I had paid extra for a late checkout and apologised as "they hadn't been informed". Went mid lunchtime as needed to be somewhere. Bags were left in the room for collection later. On our return mid afternoon the key card didn't work and let us into the room. Enquired at reception and explained when booking with them directly over the phone about a week prior and had been told I was able to checkout around 5pm. Keycards were reactivated and we were able to retrieve our belongings and check out fully. Hotel postcode didn't tie in with SatNav so advised to use the postcode for the leisure club next to...
Read moreI really wanted to give this more stars as they don't tell the full story, we were travelling back from France to Cumbria so a great stop off and fantastic that they put us in a downstairs room with a door straight outside as we have dogs (believe me if your dog needs a wee in the night and you have to get dressed and walk through corridors you will understand) we had a few niggles but we will definitely stay here next trip back. The set up is great, motel style surrounded by a secure fence with a sliding eletric gate, bar and food. The room was good overall slightly shabby carpet but good. We did have a problem where non of the sockets worked which can happen but they did offer us a move and a free drink at the bar but we were tired and in bed so never bothered, I do think they should of tried resetting the trip but to be fair to the guy behind reception phoned maintenance who said don't bother it will trip again ( who probably wanted the call out tomorrow I am in the trade) it could of been a previous customers appliance that tripped it it would of been worth a try. The breakfast was great, the drinks at night was great, the evening meal wasn't but to be fair the guy behind reception was amazing really friendly and receptionist barman chef everything and there until 10pm and there when we went for breakfast at 7am. We ordered fish and chips and he went from reception and fired the fryers up its not a busy restaurant. All in all a great secure stop over great with dogs great if you want a drink and breakfast....
Read moreI stayed here for one night whilst on a business trip. I’m surprised to read previous reviews from other guests saying their room was horrendous. Personally, my room was more than adequate. If you are expecting 4-star quality, then this is not the place to stay. However, my room was clean, the bedding was clean and the bed comfortable. The bathroom was immaculate. There was a tea tray, fan, television with remote which worked fine and I had an overall acceptable stay. I probably would want something better if I was staying for longer, but for one night it met my needs. I do agree with other reviews that the overall room block looks ‘tired’ and could certainly do with modernising. The room itself was what I would rate as ‘acceptable’. I’d be inclined to categorise this place as more of a motel than a hotel.
The layout is different from most hotels. The reception area is in one building with the rooms on the opposite side of the car park on 2 levels. Reminded me of the type of hotel you sometimes see in American movies. I was on the upper level. So you walk along an outside walkway to your room. This may not appeal to some people as it can be isolating and is something that lone female travellers may wish to take into consideration.
Overall, it did the job for me on a one night business trip stay. For £55 bed and breakfast I...
