The stables went above and beyond our expectations. What a hidden treasure!
We booked The Stables for a staycation beak as a couple and it was just everything you could hope for. There is honestly nothing we can fault.
We booked Room 2 which also comes with a wooden hot tub.
The room itself was large and spacious. Very well equipped with everything you need, including high quality products for the shower.
The bed was like a massive cloud. We both slept so well, and even better was the fact the room had blackout curtains and blinds so there was absolutely nothing to disturb us. Set an alarm if you need to be anywhere haha.
The hot tub on the balcony may look small but it’s actually quite deep and is very well positioned so that it’s not overlooked and is incredibly private. Just sitting there with an ice cold glass of wine in had listening to the rain fall was so relaxing.
For our first nights stay we ate next door at The Bowling Green Steak House. Highly recommend you book a table in advance as its one of the best restaurants in the area so you won’t want to be disappointed.
Other things that I would have to commend them for is the small perks like room service via the app. And Netflix on the Tv in the room. All small additions that make such a difference when you’ve been out for a good hike in the peaks.
We must say that the staff also are so friendly and welcoming and just can’t so enough to make your stay comfortable. Absolutely lovely.
There is parking onsite right outside your rooms.
The Stables is located from a short walk into Ashbourne so you’ve got local supermarkets if you need them, plus pubs, clothing stores and restaurants.
We visited The Little Shed where we had breakfast. It also serves an afternoon tea which looks good.
If you’re into fine dining we would also highly recommend The George at Alstonefield as was had an exquisite 9 course tasting menu.
The Stables is also located within a 15mins drive of Dovedale which is a stunning place for a proper Peak District hike.
We will 100% book here again when travelling...
Read moreThe Stables located at the gateway to the Peaks, just a ten-minute drive to the Dovedale Stepping Stones. It's also a short walk to Ashbourne's town centre, making its location ideal.
The private Japanese hot tubs, nestled among lush green plants and offering serene views of the surrounding trees, were the highlight of our stay. Every detail has been considered in the planning of The Stables, and the amenities and facilities were top-notch. We were perfectly comfortable and had everything (and more) that we needed for a weekend away.
On our first night, we stayed in the Junior Suite (Room 2), which features a private Japanese hot tub on the terrace. I struggle with insomnia, but the high-quality emperor beds with luxury Egyptian cotton practically cured me within minutes. The second night brought us to the Superior Suite (Room 3). This room is huge, with a beautiful window doubling as a lush reading nook, a roll-top bath, and access to the basement spa with a hot tub and sauna.
Both rooms are equally gorgeous and have their bonuses, making it hard to choose a favourite, although the private hot tub might sway me toward one of those rooms! Both rooms also feature rainfall showers, heated towel rails, a Nespresso coffee machine, complimentary drinks, plush robes & slippers, Bluetooth speakers, a GHD hairdryer (huge bonus), and plenty of space for luggage.
Adding to everything, there's a pub right next door where you can enjoy breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They're known for their steaks and their wood-fired pizzas, and both were delicious and very well priced too.
I cannot recommend this hotel enough. It was probably the nicest staycation we’ve had in the UK, and we're already planning a...
Read moreAfter days out at Chatsworth house and the Monsol Trail the Stables was a very cosy bolthole. Lots of nice touches. The Hot tub was obviously a highlight and ready to go when we arrived but remember no lights or bubbles. We always love a dressing gown and slippers, complimentary soft drinks and a coffee machine were much appreciated. Bed really comfortable and really nicely presented bathroom . It was always good to keep my portable speaker in my suitcase as we could easily stream our spotify on the TV. The only small issue and apologies if it was me being daft but could not make a late night coffee or early morning cups of tea without having to turn the main light on and wake my wife. The facilities are in an alcove in the room's corridor on the left. There is possibly an integrated switch you can use but if so ; I never found it. Ashbourne is a nice enough location although a bit of a building site when we arrived. The only thing we did not realise though is the 5 minute walk to town is very steep on the way back. We therefore ate both nights at the Bowling Green, a warm and inviting atmosphere, very accommodating staff but make sure you really like Blue Cheese if you order the blue...
