Beautiful hotel so pretty. We stayed in the family room. Wow so big. 3 signal beds and a double bed. Travel cot. Plenty of room. Had a large ensuite with a bath. Very clean and so comfortable. The location is lovely. At the back of the hotel there was a foot path where you can walk on the south downs. We enjoyed out walk as a family. Highly recommended we will certainly be back. The breakfast was so yummy too. 😋 Thank you chalk farm we will definitely be back.

I chose the hotel because of its association with George Orwell's book 'Animal Farm'. It is a charming small hotel with eight rooms and a lovely garden. The traditional English breakfast in the morning was delicious. P.S. We had dinner in a Red Lion pub. I highly recommend them for their hospitality and enormously vast portions of fresh food. I took a salad (on the pic), my friends had burgers and chips - also good

A beautiful hotel which is a hidden gem in the heart of Eastbourne. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the entire hotel is clean and cosy. The family room is big and spacious with a nice shower and comfortable beds. Breakfast is tasty and the host is very friendly and helpful

-AVOID - HOSTS LOUD PARTIES PAST 11pm DIRECTLY UNDER GUESTS ROOMS - THIS WILL NOT BE COMMUNICATED WHEN YOU BOOK OR PUBLISHED ON THEIR WEBSITE.

Booked a room for an overnight stay for a wedding after travelling down from Scotland. Looks lovely - room looked fine but on coming back the downstairs area was hosting an insanely loud function with DJ, kareokee and tons of people, which is right below our room. The receptionist lied three 3 times about when it was going to finish (10.15, 10.30, 11)- it was like trying to sleep/relax in a club toilet. Still waiting for everyone to leave as I type this, doubt it will be empty and quiet till midnight. The 'hotel' was built in the 1600s and is not fit for purpose to hold functions along with paying guests as you can hear every conversation and the music feels and sounds like it's in the same room. This is completely unacceptable for a hotel! It's not a hostel!

They do not care at all about guests at all only about making money unfortunately - I have never had such a terrible experience staying somewhere. Do not bother, especially if you are travelling far or have an early start - thank god we didn't have kids with us!

I asked for a refund which was sheepishly suggested it will be passed on...

Arrived in carpark and questions marks. Entered reception and my heart sank. The reception area and bar area was extremely tired and grubby and there was the smell of stale cooking. We were taken to our room and an even bigger disappointment. We are not hotel snobs but we could not stay and had to leave at 10pm at night to find somewhere else to stay. Although it's an old building, it was clear to see that it had been neglected over the years. The furniture was dated, old and had dirty marks all over, the carpet was dirty and stained, the wardrobe was a cupboard without an handle on the door, it had shelving and boxing and the boxing had some sort of hole. The cables from the TV were just dangling in front of the radiator, you had to be under 5 foot tall to enter the shower room which was tiny. It was warm day but not hot and we wondered why the window was wide open. It was open because there was an underlying smell of damp/mould. The pictures on the website are nothing like the reality of what's on offer. No better than a Youth hostel. The chap on the reception desk was excellent, He was courteous, happy, friendly, helpful and had a sense of humour. This hotel has the potential to be fabulous but needs a few pounds spending...

My friends and I stayed for 2 nights, we had a family room with a double bed and two singles, which was lovely. The bedding was very clean and the shower room/toilet was ok, it was clean but the whole thing really needs a bit of TLC, it would be first class if given a small wipe down on the wood work and a bit of white paint in the bathroom to hide the mould stains on the back of the sink and the shower. The shower curtain could also do with changing. Lots of dust and dirt around the beds wall side on the floor. We loved the quirky style of the hotel, the history of the place is interesting. The staff were lovely and the breakfast outstanding, best cooked breakfast ever. I would recommend the hotel but the rooms do not look like the pictures and I believe our room is the picture shown in the advert above but the decor not the same anymore ! Would however recommend it as long as you are not expecting what you see in...
