We were contacted by the Caithness Inn informing us that we had to phone when we were near, on arrival a Lady appeared from what looked like a empty shop and handed over the keys for the External door adjoining the 'Shop', this was the entrance to the 'Inn'. She then told us the room Number and which floor ( First Floor)The stairs from the entrance to our room was steep and spiralled, this made it hard for my wife who has walking difficulties. The woman handed over the keys showed us the room & left. (the total conversation amounted to a couple of sentences) The room was a decent size, have no complaints about the cleanness of the room, Bathroom had a enclosed shower, a small hand basin (i had to use cups to fill a small kettle), plenty of towels, a bottle of hand wash, no shower gel which i would expect there to be. The windows were wooden sash windows, on the main window one of the two handles was broken which prevented the window closing properly, where it closed it closed tight but the other side there was a gap of about 25mm which you felt the draft coming in. My wife also commented that there was a smell in the room but to be honest i didn't smell anything unusual. This accommodation is not a hotel, nor an Inn, this at best would be described as a overpriced Hostal room at £90 per night which we were charged and was non refundable. If i was travelling on my own and needed a accommodation for a night i would probably stay here again, but is is not for couples or for a few days stop over. To all the reviewers looking a this hotel ignore all comments up to late 2023 because after that THEY ARE NOT APPLICABLE TO THIS PRESENT DAY...
Read moreDo not consider staying here, it's a "rip off"|We were looking forward to staying at this "4 Star" hotel after a long and miserable cold drive. It is not even a 1 star! We had difficulty finding the place and eventually found it with the help of a local. As with the previous reviews we had to phone a number for someone to give us access. My husband was shown a small room up four flights of steep stairs. The bed was pushed against a wall and with what appeared to be a box like ensuite. He was then shown a room on the first floor that had two single beds that was equally unexciting. There was no safe nearby parking, I felt very unsafe waiting in the car while he sorted out the problem. We decided not to stay and to put it down to a non refundable bad experience. We were fortunate enough to obtain a room in Thurso at a reliable...
Read moreChrck in was efficient and very fast. Asia the hostess was wonderful and warm.
However the room we booked was on the 3F. Had no idea upfront else we wouldn't have stayed here.. Had to lug heavy luggage up 3 flights!
Room was tiny but clean. Stuffy. Hot water pressure was acceptable but shower took awhile to get hot.
Room overlooks a street but was quiet.
Free parking 50 meters away at an open square outside the Alexander mcbain pub.
Hostess recommended the norseman Hotel for dinner. Ordered a steak there and was very happy with the portions and size. Have your dinner there. 5m walk away.
Overall would not stay here again but would try another...
