Walking into the red velveteen confines of spice tandoori was like walking into a David Lynch film. There was no music playing, no one in there on a Thursday night and a general atmosphere of dread pervading the place. Our waiter, Imran, asked us to review the restaurant before we’d even sat down, which set alarm bells ringing. We were then badgered for more reviews by the staff, and hassled and harried to choose our food quickly because apparently ‘it needed time to cook’, which left us baffled. As we were chowing down on (very decent) poppadoms and a generous pickle tray (which we later discovered as a separate item on the bill) we witnessed an argument between a customer of Eastern European extraction and one of the waiters. Imran dutifully came over to us and assured us it was all a misunderstanding over a bottle of kingfisher, and that we should still give tandoori spice a good review. The food eventually came, and it was fairly decent. Butter chicken was passable, and the Dahnsak passed muster. We ate it under the watchful gaze of Imran and his co-conspirators who asked us if we were enjoying our meal between every bite. We felt like prisoners in the panopticon eating our death row meal.

We paid up (overpriced) and got the hell out of there, Imran’s request for a review ringing in our...

I was on holiday near by and ordered food to take out, when I got there the guy was rude. Also the food is not Indian it’s Bangladeshi. There is nothing to be ashamed of Bangladeshi food, it’s just different but most brits can’t tell the difference so they get by selling it as Indian food. And by the way food colouring is not an ingredient in Indian or Bangladeshi cosine. If the food looks too red don’t eat it it’s not good for you, the closest thing to food colour in Indian food is turmeric and it’s yellow.

That was a few days ago then, today I did a google search to find an Indian restaurant nearby and only these guys are in the area so I checked the opening times on google it says 11am to 10pm so I called to confirm, the guy on the other end was rude and told me it was closed, I tried to help and said “on google it is saying it’s open” so that they know and update the information. The guy was rude again and told me to check on the website. Then he came to his senses and asked me if I’m going to place an order. Of course I didn’t because I may run into him at the restaurant. Some business should chose their employees better. It’s probably still open because there is no other option...

Not 1 star as the food can be decent. Been going here for years, mainly due to lack of options rather than it being a quality establishment however my most recent visit made my mind up. Our table ordered starters and mains, we waited well over 40 minutes for our starters only to be presented with our mains, the server seemed unwilling to correct this and questioned whether we had ordered starters at all! Only to make the situation uncomfortable enough to make us feel pressured into skipping starters. I would not have minded so much if the portion size was not so small we all left feeling unsatisfied. I'd usually excuse this however it's only the latest incident in a long line of examples of poor customer service, rarely are you asked if the table would like drinks or anything else and let me assure you it's not because they are busy! Instead the staff glare at you...

I was really disappointed with the restaurant Spice tandoori at Wick. I was offered poor service. I dined in with my family yesterday. The chicken tikka was given straight from the fridge and it was not warm enough. It is supposed to be piping hot. After I said it’s not warm, he came up with another plate of chicken tikka from the microwave oven. The restaurant claims it to be cooked in clay oven. But they lied to me literally. I have a cooking experience of 10 years and how could a clay oven cooked meat would be so cold. It didn’t stop here, one big piece of Tandoori chicken, I ordered had a very bad smell and stale. In order to avoid arguments with the restaurant, I left it on the plate and informed them. I don’t wanted to feed my little ones with that stale chicken. So please be cautious in this restaurant. I wouldn’t recommend to anyone. The 1 star is for the river view.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5/5 I had an absolutely wonderful experience at Spice Tandoori in Wick. From the moment I walked in, the warm welcome and friendly atmosphere made me feel right at home. The staff were attentive without being intrusive, and their knowledge of the menu helped me choose the perfect dishes. The food itself was outstanding — fresh, fragrant, and full of authentic flavours. The chicken tikka was perfectly cooked, tender, and packed with spice, while the naan bread was soft, fluffy, and fresh from the tandoor. Every dish was beautifully presented and bursting with taste. What really stood out was the attention to detail and the genuine pride the team takes in their food. Whether you’re a local or just passing through Wick, Spice Tandoori is an absolute must-visit for anyone who loves high-quality Indian cuisine. I’ll definitely be back!

I have eaten in Indian restaurants around the world and this was probably my worst ever dinner. I honestly doubt there's an Indian chef in the kitchen. We ordered Indian staples such as butter chicken, lamb khorma and garlic naan. The butter chicken was a yellow puree, overly sweet with no tomato whatsoever, just bizarre. The lamb khorma was so excruciatingly full of sugar and cinnamon, it was inedible - like eating a bowl of Christmas spice. My husband was so hungry but couldn't bring himself to eat more than a few spoonfuls. Everything was full of sugar without any other flavours. The naan didn't taste of any garlic and the Raita we ordered was plain unseasoned joghurt swimming in water..... just bewildering! The only saving grace were the friendly staff and okay starters - otherwise this would be a 1-star review.
