We had a great time and feel the site is dealing with the COVID situation as well as anybody else. However reading disappointing reviews can also see their point of view. We stayed two nights with electric hookup. The campsite is a little tight and you soon realise why they have no parking at your pitch. Even getting to the site is tight on the roads too. Our pitch had a slight incline to it so this made sleeping feel like you were sliding out of bed, it wasn't that bad though. The view was amazing. We've camped at many festivals in the past and it kind of had that feel with the random nature of the pitches and the closeness of others. We had no issues with this. Regarding the facilities. We anticipated they may not be great, lets be fair how many campsites are perfect and with the current COVID situation we tooka chemical toilet to help us out. PLEASE NOTE, you cannot dispose of chemical toilets on site, this found out on arrival. However was pleasantly surprised by the ZOOLOOS and was good to see users were leaving them in a decent state afterwards. They were regularly cleaned and always stocked with toilet paper and paper hand towels. Hand Sanitizers are close by in the reception / Toilet / Shower areas. Signage is clearly visible advising how to clean up the shower and again pleasantly surprised by how clean they appeared, the COVID system could be improved with a more hygienic key system but it's a system I found worked well. The shower was hot and works on a push button system which made showering quick. They provide fire pits which we only managed to use once during our two night stay. Thankfully a follow camper helped light the fire by providing us with some paper. We almost had it going with what we had and the kindling provided but would suggest if you want to use a fire pit bring something appropriate to get it going. At the time it cost £20 for the fire pit, kindlin and wood plus a £10 refundable deposit when the fire pit is returned. We came home with half a bag of wood. Children have no playground however there is an unsupervised rope swing and small stream to paddle in. Our four year old boy loved it. The weather wasn't great for our stay but not a complete washout loved it. The weather wasn't great for our stay but not a complete washout and we did have great weather for a day out at Hesketh Farm. On leaving; signs of cars struggling to leave the site were beginning to show and we did slide a little bit on leaving but was to be expected due to the overnight persistent rain. The small coffee shop / shed was a blessing when leaving during the wet start providing good coffee and a choice of croissant or pain au chocolat. In my opinion this was a great experience and would consider...
Read moreI honestly cannot recommend this camp site any more than this, it's so clean and I mean super clean, when they drive through with a tractor they they walk back and pick mud up from its tyres! The shower and toilet blocks are sparkling and great space too, huge full size toilets, large shower rooms with a push button shower that you just keep pressing (they were wey to hot for me or the children but we just like cooler showers) 5 hooks on the back of the doors for all you dry things then a shower tray on the wall for shampoo, if you leave anything they put it on a shelf as you walk in. There are plenty of sinks for the busy morning rush and tea time clean up. They have a fantastic kitchen room with a huge seating block in the middle, 2 fridges and a freezer to keep your items in and even labels to keep everything fresh, these were a godsend as it was roasting when we went. There are another block of portable toilets for a quick wee too on the way to the actual site, They have a tiny coffee and cake shop that sell hot breakfast cakes and cold breakfast bars and proper real coffee! It was open 7 till 9 when we went but I think that varies if its out of season, they also have a tiny shop in reception for essentials and neither shop nor coffee shop are expensive, we needed some tent pegs and they were £2! Huge coffee cups were only £2.50 and they have some tables and chairs to use if you eat there too, perfectafter a hot night in tents. The site it's self is amazing, car free unless your unloading or packing up so it's super safe for the kiddies to run around, dogs are not only allowed to camp with you but there free too! They do have to be on leads but there are walks in every direction. You can pick where you want to pick on standard pitches and your given certain ones if you want electric hookup, there are so many drinking taps everywhere that you don't need to walk far at all. I've never been to such a well run campsite with such lovely friendly helpful staff and such amazing facilities where we have felt safe and had so much fun we stayed on extra just so we could explore more. By far the best campsite for miles around and well worth a visit too. Thanks you Catgill farm for an amazing holiday with great memories made. Amanda and 2 very happy...
Read moreOverall had a lovely time but worth noting a few pros and cons for anyone looking to go. We stayed in one of the timber pods (on a wet November weekend).
Pros: The location is incredible. A few minutes walk to bolton abbey and the village with some amazing walks to pubs and cafes.
The views are stunning and it is so peaceful. You can see cars in the distance but can't hear them and the campsite itself was very quiet you couldn't hear other pods and they don't overlook eachother at all which is lovely.
The pod is really well equipt, the kitchen has everything you'd need and the cleaver use of space means it feels spacious (although I can not imagine 6 people in there! 4 would be a squeeze but for 2 it was perfect)
Even in November the cabin felt warm enough
Despite the coffee shop being shut in winter they offer a service where you can preorder breakfast pastries and have them dropped at your cabin.
Despite being remote local takeaways do deliver and the infornation booklet they provide is really good for local reccomendations and general info on places to go/eat/walks
Staff are really helpful and friendly
Cons:
With a minimum stay of 2 nights you are spending a minimum of £500 to stay here so I have to admit I thought it was a little cheeky that some things have to be added on as extra and paid for. You are provided 1 bag of firewood for free but with both the hot tub and pizza oven needing this you definitely use more and they are charged at £8 for any subsequent bags opened. I know this isn't a lot (although more than you'd pay to buy it yourself elsewhere) but I think giving 2 would be more fair. And fairy lights are charged at £12. Surely for £500 these little extras could be included to make the stay that more luxurious
Perhaps to be expected in November but our cabin smelt REALLY damp. The air freshener in there did little to mask it and even clothes that hadn't come out of our bags needed washing when we got home. But maybe part and parcel of a November log cabin but we had to keep heating on and windows open.
The pillows were feather but really flat. Personal preference but I'd definitely suggest taking your own...
