Disappointing experience from start to finish with dirty china and cutlery. The box which the afternoon tea was presented in has seen better days and we felt a little uncomfortable about how hygienic it was. We ordered 1 normal and 1 vegetarian afternoon tea and the normal one seemed to be lacking the sausage roll which is on the online menu. The sandwiches were mostly ok but the cake selection was extremely disappointing and very very tiny. The jam for the scones was brought out separately with yet another dirty spoon. There were no napkins on the table which was very inconvenient. No one checked on us whilst we were there and at one point the staff started noisily resetting the entire dining room and even started vacuuming near us which was very unprofessional and not the expected atmosphere for an afternoon tea. We were offered 1 refill of tea and coffee during our visit and the coffee came out in a dirty pot and a grubby milk jug. This was not the experience we expected from a 4 star hotel and an afternoon tea which is sold at £19.50 a person. The staff who welcomed us were polite and friendly but other than that there this was an extremely disappointing experience and we left unhappy at something we had been much looking forward to.

Big room and plenty of parking, but good points end there. In the room, the bathroom was very dated with sharp broken floor tiles and mould around the shower with all the soap dispensers empty. We were only told at the last minute that there might be event going on till 1am, which there was with loud music till that time, not ideal with young children. Even past this time the room had corridors on two sides with doors banging though out the night. In the morning the breakfast was very unorganised, not enough tables for the number of guests. The food was average, but there were quite a few flies around the buffet area. The front door of the hotel drops straight onto a road without any proper pedestrian route, again not good with small children. Overall this hotel does not deserve it's current rating and is in need of modernization and restructuring.

So 1st a Big Thumbs Up to Linda, Amie, Holy and Rob... Helpful and Polite....

When I first walked in the lighting was flashing and flicking very brightly and rapidly I raised my hand to shield my eyes one of the management team asked if there was a problem "yes im epileptic" Im sorry i get maintenance came the reply 5 minutes later the offending lights were gone. So Thank you very much for that.

Booked Direct and gave my card info to purchase as requested and told this would be taken straight away.

Arrived and informed not paid... OK so I paid. However they then charged my Father-in-Law's Room to me not a Problem we were having a Suite so the female receptionist charged us a further amount then Charged to me thats fine then charged me Again for My Father-in-law's room so I've now paid for my Father-in-law Twice my Additional Amount Once.... the receptionist was at best incompetent. Then asked if I could get my luggage I had dropped off earlier she opened the door and I went in to collect she then made some further mistakes with my Father-in-law i tried to assist which i was then told you can't talk to me on my side of the couner which I replied well help me get my luggage out and i can go at this point I gave up....

The Suite was fine the Bed and seating in the suite were comfortable and reasonably clean 2 TV's great! The next day found a small note about its greener not to have a maid in, so I asked at the Reception for our room to be made up... They made the Bed but left an ICE Bucket and Several dirty glasses and did not clean the Coffee Cups.

The Evening meal was good although my first order was out of stock.

The Breakfast was of a Very Good Standard.

Friday Morning they had free Crunchies at reception which I thought was an excellent addition.

Very Nice Grounds except for the Cigarette Butt's in all the outside sitting areas...

Pool water was a little cloudy.

High Power intakes not covered in the Jacuzzi if have long hair you are likely to get seriously injured or die if your hair is sucked in to the inlet.

One of the emergency buttons was disabled whilst works are ongoing in the swimming pool.

Showers are not safe as no hot or cold just on of off the water was on the hot side for a child.

We where attending function and had the use of a very small bar with a hundred people attending and only one young lady behind the bar for the 1st 20 minutes service was SLOW also I ordered several single malts to be informed if I wanted them I'd have to go to the other main bar in reception said I'm happy to wait whilst you go get one the reply "I'm not allowed too" came the answer.

Over All Great Potential but currently sadly lacking. This place could be very good indeed.

Oh no A/C in the Suite and the windows don't open much.

Would i stay here again? Yes I would iI ust think some of the team need some retraining and a wake up call....

This feedback to assist you to excel so when I come back I can have a better...

myself and my partner have recently stayed with our 3 children at the Mercure Grange Hotel Hull. I am utterly appalled by a few things that have happened during our stay. I wanted to make you aware of the following and see if there is anything you can do in return as myself & my partner are really unimpressed and wouldn’t like any future guests to feel the same or your hotel have a bad reputation.Firstly, when booking the hotel we asked for 1 big family room to sleep 5, we was then was accommodated 2 rooms interlocking with 2 doubles & 1 single within each. Upon arrive we was given 2 rooms interlocked however they only had 1 double and 2 singles between them.. this only slept 4, not the 5 we booked for, we was then moved to 2 separate room causing upset for the 3 children. We booked this hotel, also 20 minutes away from the town centre purely for the fact that it was ‘child friendly’ and included a swimming pool for the children (stated online). We arrived to the pool, online times stating open til 9 for all but on arrival saying 7pm for children. When entering the swimming baths the changing room doors had blood on them (spoke to the staff member on duty and this was apparently due to swimming lessons).. during our two visits to the pool I found numerous tiles in the pool detached from the wall/bottom of pool. My 5 year daughter cut her ankle on of these tiles, I am also 6 months pregnant and the infection rate due to this is very high & I didn’t feel safe to continue in the pool after these occasions rose. The jacuzzi online never stated it was for over 16 years, we was told our children wasn’t allowed in when the swimming area was empty but other children was allowed during busier periods.I then paid on arrival for 2 all you can eat buffet breakfast for the two adults - breakfast Sunday am - we was told no buffet just menu orders. The children was told to do the same but when asking for more food we felt a burden to the staff who sarcastically joked whenever more food was mentioned. We was told the hotel was a child friendly hotel, hence us paying an extra £20 in taxis from the train station and travelling 18 minutes from the train station. I truly feel it isn’t accommodating for children. On a brighter note, the 2 staff members on the bar between 7-10pm were brilliant and showed very good customer service.I am again grateful for most of the customer service eg Jeff on the main reception, but as a paying guest who has brought her family away for the night would like to know if there is any refund/compensation you can do as our stay wasn’t to our full experience/expectations.Thank...

Just book a premier or travel lodge and save yourself the trouble! Not worth staying here at all. If you do plan to stay in this hotel, book directly through the website. We booked a room through Agoda and the hotel didn't receive our booking and apparently it was cancelled, even though it was booked 2 months in advance. When we got there we were just told that it's been cancelled and there's nothing the hotel can do by the receptionist. So we had to pay again at the hotel's rates. Luckily we did receive a full refund from Agoda. Once we said that we would pay again (because we had no choice), the receptionist then gave us free breakfast for the duration of our stay and a free drink from the hotel bar. Which was the least he could do, after his lack of customer service skills. Even so it was appreciated.

After this whole who ha, we got to our room only to find that the outside of the toilet bowl was covered in feces. It was late at night when we realised, so it was too late to complain and ask them to come and clean it. Luckily we had wipes with us and had to clean it ourselves. The bathroom floor also had hairs In the corners from previous lodgers. And there was a permanent brown stain on the toilet from where the water was trickling down from the tank to the bowl. I'm not sure if it was ever bleached down.

Moving on, the beds were super hard and uncomfortable. I think I got a total of 9 hours sleep for the whole two nights of my stay. And if you're used to a memory foam or hybrid mattress, your back will be I'm for a shock. My back is still messed up from sleeping on their hard springy mattress.

On the Friday day of our check out, there seemed to be way more of a staff team on site and we're very accommodating and friendly and offered us chocolates on our check out and even helped us move tables to accommodate our guests at breakfast. That is the only pleasant experience I had during my stay at this hotel. And if the only pleasant experience you have at a place is someone doing their job once in the two days you are there, don't go back! Never again will I stay here. Awful experience. Save yourself the trouble and book with a mainstream hotel where you will be guaranteed a bed that's not hard and full of springs and a clean...
