I've stayed at this hotel several times as I have a customer based in Aberdare and I've never had a bad experience here.
I like;
As a business traveler my absolute priorities are good night's sleep in a quiet clean room with a decent shower and you absolutely get these here. The rooms are always acceptably clean and very quiet. The bed (as in all Premier Inns) is very good.
You always get a friendly welcome; the staff are always pleasant and helpful. Check-in is straightforward and efficient.
I would recommend the breakfast in the pub next-door. Again the staff there are always friendly and there's something to eat for everyone. I like that I can properly fill up for the day ahead and can skip lunch. Personally I don't care to eat there in the evening as in my opinion there are better food options locally.
Aberdare Premier Inn was re-furbished roughly 3 years ago so the rooms are pleasant and smart. You don't appreciate the standard until you visit a Premier Inn hotel that hasn't had the builders in yet.
I don't like;
Having to pay around £5 on top of my bill for 24 hours of very average WiFi; less than 10Mbps download speed and it drops out a lot.
You really need to bring your own soap / shampoo / shower-gell / flannel / sponge as they just have soap foam dispensers. The cleaning foam(?) is fine - it cleans you without being needlessly aggressive or over perfumed. However, if they simply supplied a flannel or two with the towels, a couple of those traditional little hotel soaps and tiny shampoo / conditioner bottles, it would definitely improve the experience.
Also they supply annoyingly small cups and glasses (I imagine in order to lure you into the pub next door which is also owned by Whitbread) so I tend to bring my own cup.
However;
I find Premier Inn hotels to be decent value for money and I tend to use them for business travel around the country as I usually check in late, go straight to bed, shower in the morning, fuel up and ship out. Most of the other guests are the same; often contractors like me who use the chain for the same reason. If you're looking for a holiday hotel; this isn't it as your options in the evening are the pub next door, the KFC over the road or watch TV...
Read moreWhat a disappointing stay! The first room we were in made my husband ill. There was mould around the windows and the aircon unit wasn't working properly. When we went to reception to tell them about his allergic reaction to the room they immediately asked if we had used the aircon. They did then put us in a different room for our 2nd night, but it was too late by then, and it took days for his symptoms to subside. The bathroom in the original room also had issues. The floor was spongey next to the toilet, and felt like it could give way. The staff in the hotel were friendly and helpful, however. We had also booked the meal deal and were using the Brewers Fayre next door. The first night the food and service was excellent, but it was a team from another Brewers Fayre working that night as it was the Aberdare staff party. The Friday night was a completely different experience. The starters arrived cold. The mushrooms were swimming in grease. My husbands starter arrived minus its dip. My main was also cold. Our food had obviously been prepared for a while and they hadn't known which table ordered it. The person who had served us initially was stood chatting to a customer friend for 20 mins while other staff had to cover for her. The person responsible for the play zone was serving in the main restaurant as a result, which meant no staff were in the play area should there have been an emergency. We had been given the wrong receipts, so had to argue our corner for the dessert we had purchased for our daughter. Overall a very...
Read moreWe were so happy to have found a good hotel in Aberdare. It’s situated at a great location as it makes our trip from London to our Chapel in Mountain Ash very convenient. It’s one of the best hotels, a great place, very clean and above all the staff are absolutely amazing. They are all so welcoming that it makes us feel like we are home away from home. A great shout out to Rhiannon in particular who always goes out of her way to make sure we have all we need to make us comfortable on our long stays. We were also very happy to see the many Arti crafts that Sophie introduced to us to support the great Osmond street children’s hospital. Such a good cause. We love supporting this charity. We recommend your hotel to all our visitors who come to our Chapel events. Thank you Premier Inn Aberdare for being the right place and the right people to make every stay a very memorable one. God bless you...
