Such a disappointing experience. We booked the Ynyscynon for our family Christmas lunch, as several friends had expressed how good their festive offering had been in previous years. We arrived to a cold restaurant lacking in atmosphere and Christmas cheer and we were seated in direct draught from the constantly opening main door. The table was bare and lacking in sufficient cutlery for the number of courses. We were served long life orange juice straight from the carton, and a good, if luke warm rum punch. Our starters came promptly, pate was basic processed fare but the toast was chewy and soggy and there was no butter. One half slice of cheap sliced bread was served with the prawn cocktail, which was good. Soup was bland and lacking in the garnish stared on the menu. We then waited 50 mins for the fish course and had to ask twice for extra cutlery, which didn't arrive until the food was almost finished and was insufficient for all our group. We then waited another 45 mins for our main course. No one attempted to clear the numerous glasses and debris from crackers from the table, despite attempting to get the attention of the crazy busy waiting staff several times. Two drinks glasses were dirty and one has a lipstick stain on the rim. The vegetables arrived several minutes before our plates, resulting in cold vegetables. The sprouts were grey, watery and tasteless. The peas were hard and the parsnips burnt. The roast potatoes were totally dried out and inedible. The Yorkshire puddings were soggy, chewy and difficult to cut. The turkey was dry and bland and one portion contained a large piece of greasy skin. The lamb and beef were tasty but very small portions. There was no stuffing, cranberry sauce and mint sauce. We asked a server who finally brought a tiny pot of cranberry sauce when the meal was almost finished. We complained about the parsnips and roast potatoes which were replaced with a similar offering. At no point did any server ask if everything was OK and getting their attention was nigh on impossible as they were so busy and obviously understaffed. We had to ask again for staff to clear our table and were asked if we wanted out desserts straight away, which we did. Twenty minutes later we decided to speak to the manager, who has already appeared to speak to other dissatisfied customers and was loudly refuting their claims in the restaurant. He was extremely rude and arrogant and disputed our many complaints and blaming his staff for timing issues, even pulling one young server away from her duties and reprimanding her in front of the whole restaurant. He refused to listen to our claims and walked away whilst we were still talking to him. Our desserts finally arrived after 35 mins, the chocolate cake was hard and dry and the profiteroles were still frozen in the middle. A server was sent over with a partial refund which was just placed on the table without any apology. We paid our bill and left without our mince pies and coffee. I left a review on their Facebook page, along with other dissatisfied customers, only to find that Later the same evening their Facebook page had...
Read moreWe decided to go out for Christmas dinner this year as a family and booked the Ynyscynon based on the good reviews of friends. We were disappointed. On arrival we were shown to our table and immediately noticed the lack of Christmas cheer from the staff. The table was bland and not decorated, no table cloth, no wine glasses etc. The crackers were cheap and did not ‘crack’ when pulled. On going to the bar to buy drinks, we found the bar staff to be rude and drinks were served in dirty glasses. After a short wait, our starters were brought out, soup was bland, and soggy toast served with pate - not the quality you would expect for the price being paid and on this special occasion. We then waited 50 minutes for the fish course to arrive, standard of food was generally good and everyone enjoyed. Another 45 minutes past and our main meals arrived. Well the vegetables arrived and then 5 minutes later the meat etc. Very poor service from miserable and over worked waiting staff. Cold plates, soggy sprouts and rock hard inedible roast potatoes. Yorkshire puddings were the frozen kind and soggy also. Turkey was not served with cranberry or stuffing, lamb with no mint sauce - cranberry was eventually brought when we asked the waitress. Staff didn’t check if our meals were ok throughout the meal and plates were eventually cleared. After waiting a further 20 minutes for desserts (although the waitress asked us did we want them straight away) we asked to speak to the manager. He was rude and arrogant and had very little respect for his staff. He proceeded to reprimand his staff in our presence and suggested that our complaints about he food were lies. He had no apologies for spoiling our Christmas lunch and walked off while we were still speaking to him. A waitress then brought a partial refund to our table - again with no apology. Desserts arrived, they were either frozen in the middle or dry. We left without having tea/coffee, mince pies etc. During the meal many other tables were complaining about their meals and one family, who have eaten at the Ynyscynon for the past 6 years, said they will not return based on this experience. Both myself and other diners left reviews on the Facebook page yesterday evening, only to find that the Facebook page was then deleted. We have dined at the Ynyscynon many times over the past 10 years, we will not...
