Attending an event in Swanage on a Thursday evening and not wanting to make the hour and a half drive home afterwards provided a good opportunity to stay a couple of nights in town and explore Swanage on the Friday.
So many opportunities exist in the town for eating and drinking meant that by providing just a room Railway Cottage met this requirement perfectly.
The double bedded room we chose was small but perfectly formed. Furnishings, furniture and the ensuite were clean and practical - being 6' 1" tall meant I could reach down the small fan from its resting place on a high shelf. With a key safe system to get the key for our room on arrival with the key left in the room meant we didn't see the hosts at all during our short stay, not a problem at all. The location is just a short walk from where the event we attended, the seafront, the shops and places to eat. Plenty of free on street parking was available close by as described and felt very safe in the residential area. The large car park is, again as described, opposite the cottage if needed. That would have cost us £30 for three days had we needed it, but we didn't. We highly recommend the...
Read moreMy double room was clean and comfortable enough for a few nights. The room was small (with a very small bathroom) and there was hardly any storage space so I think it would be a bit cramped for a couple, but fine for one person. The bed was very comfortable. My room at the rear of the property was quiet at night. The window could be opened to allow fresh air. There was a small fridge, plus tea and coffee making facilities in the room. There were also spare teabags, suger, etc in the hallway. There was no hairdryer in the room but I noticed there was a spare hairdryer in the hallway. Railway Cottage is only a 5 minute, level walk from the train and bus station and shops. |Railway Cottage does not offer breakfast and I did not meet the host. The host did not send me a key code and I had to contact them the day before my arrival to get instructions. Apart from this, I had no problems. Overall, Railway Cottage is value for money. I...
Read moreThis guest house is in a great location. We had a room with 2 twin beds and a bathroom. It had a mini fridge, kettle, and lots of tea to choose from, which was nice. It does not have breakfast. We didn't meet the owners as everything was emailed, and just directions on where to get the key.
The bed was a bit uncomfortable, and you could hear noise from the people living below and in the other rooms, but it wasn't too bad as all noise stopped early. The rooms could be a bit cleaner, with some cobwebs on the shades and mold around the windows in the bathroom. The shower barely worked, and we didn't complain as we were only staying 2 nights. We did get a text from the owner with an apology. They said that the pump was broken and had they knew they would have switched our rooms. The owners seem to be very nice and...
