My husband stumbled upon Ty Afon when choosing a hotel to stay in the weekend he was planning on proposing to me. Having met in North Wales at university, it only felt right to get engaged (and married) in the same area we used to hike when students.
After visiting one or two other prospective wedding venues we called Ty Afon to ask whether they host weddings, as we had such a special time at the hotel for our engagement weekend. Luckily they they did, and we visited one evening to have a chat and tour. We met Regan who was so welcoming and we immediately clicked with. We had a drink and he showed us around and talked about the history of the place. We shared our story and talked about what our vision was for a wedding – he gave some very useful pointers.
After talking about wedding plans for a good couple of hours (and many other things) we took a tour of the hotel and garden.
Regan took us up to the mountain terrace at the back and it was that moment we both instinctively knew this was the place we wanted to get married, in view of the mountains, trees and stunning valley. Rain or shine we knew it would be perfect.
Throughout the planning process, we visited Ty Afon several times to meet with Emma to discuss plans – she was always open to us visiting and we had plenty of Zoom calls. Every visit just got us more excited, and throughout Emma and her team couldn’t have been more welcoming and helpful. By the wedding, we felt so close to the team – we were all in it together! And we felt so familiar and comfortable in the venue that it started to feel like a home-from-home.
The service we received and the relationship we built made it feel like we were the only clients they had too - it truly did feel the team were invested in making our day perfect and were just as excited as we were.
Our ‘vibe’ for the wedding was relaxed, outdoors-indoors evening wedding, BBQ and party. Ty Afon was perfect for this, and when we explained our vision to Emma, she immediately understood and threw herself into the idea. It also didn’t ever feel like they had a standard wedding formula for clients to follow- which worked for us.
Planning the day itself was seamless. We had great advice on timings and Sonas was a blessing for finding an appropriate seating plan – and for keeping everything in one place. They also worked seamlessly with all of our suppliers throughout the planning and on the day.
They were incredibly flexible too when it came how things would be set up and run, and went the extra mile to accommodate for the older and younger guests.
From the moment we arrived and the whole wedding weekend, we were treated like royalty. The team made sure we were always looked after and there was always a space for us to go to escape our guests when everything got a little overwhelming and we just needed a break. Nothing was too much to ask.
I don’t think anything could’ve prepared us for how perfect the day itself was. From the dressing of the venue (including the flowers everywhere, the hotel decor, the ceremony area, stretch tent and amazing tables) and delicious breakfast, to the unforgettable ceremony, amazing BBQ and incredible reception which was so much fun.
The attention to detail everywhere was amazing, everything came together so well!
The single most important part of the wedding for us was the ceremony, and there was no more perfect place in the world we could’ve got married than the mountain terrace, looking in one direction at our friends, family and loved ones, in another at eachother, and in another at the sun shining over the spectacular mountains, forests and fields, with the steam train whistle echoing through the valley.
Not even a 600 word gushing review does justice to just how perfect our wedding was and how grateful to Emma, Regan, Emily, Yana and all the Ty Afon family we are. We will never forget the day or the people that made it happen.
Looking back, we would not change a thing and couldn’t have asked for more. We’ve got no doubt we’ll stay in touch and visit Ty Afon for...
Read moreWe had an exceptional experience during our stay at Ty-Afon, a true gem we discovered through Google during our visit to Snowdon for a hiking adventure.
Our journey to find accommodation for our family was met with challenges, as many hotels couldn't accommodate our little one, who was only 2 at the time. Ty-Afon, however, stood out with kindness and honesty. The staff member I spoke with candidly informed us that family rooms were fully booked, but if we were comfortable with a smaller room and our little one slept well, they would be delighted to host us.
Upon our late arrival, we were warmly welcomed by a gracious lady at the reception who escorted us to our surprisingly lovely room. The attention to detail was evident – the room was clean, cozy, and well-maintained, with new carpets and a finish that reflected genuine care.
The breakfast experience was equally delightful, thanks to Emma, who took care of the breakfast room. The spread was fabulous, and our little one developed an instant fondness for Emma, who handled his enthusiastic antics with remarkable ease.
The true measure of care, however, unfolded after we left the hotel. Our little one realized he left his cherished Bunny behind in the hotel room, probably during an innocent game of hide and seek. The call we received from the team, informing us of Bunny's location and their initiative to ship it to us at no cost, was a gesture that touched our hearts deeply. When Bunny finally arrived home, it was accompanied by a heartwarming card depicting Bunny's "vacation" from us. This thoughtful gesture added a whimsical touch that left us smiling and exemplifies the exceptional care and attention to detail that sets the Ty-Afon team apart.
Thank you, Ty-Afon Team, for not only providing a comfortable stay but for going above and beyond to ensure our memories of the stay are filled with warmth and gratitude. Your kindness has left a lasting impression on our family, and we will always cherish the memories created at your wonderful...
Read moreThe hotel is perfectly situated in Beddgelert nestling at the foot of the hills and beside a river along which you can walk. Less than 5 mins away across said river is the centre where there are a few shops and 3 excellent pubs all of which serve food. The room we had was of reasonable size for our overnight stay. It was very clean, tastefully decorated and all toiletries and shampoos etc are provided.
The hotel also does food. The menu is changed daily and 3 course's cost £27.50. You can of course have just 1 or 2 of the courses and the price is adjusted accodingly or alternatively you can choose something else and add a small supplement.
However and this is where I feel the hotel falls down. You have to pre order your food before 6pm so that it can be prepared in time for 7pm. You are told to be in the lounge ready before 7pm because that's when they will call you for your meal. At precisely 7pm everybody is told to enter the restaurant and sit at their designated table.
Everybody's starter comes out at the same time, then everybody's starter is cleared away before everybody's vegetables are served followed by your mains (which can be 5 mins after) I'd eaten my veg before my main was served mainly as it was going cold.
I could not fault the food itself, just the fact that it should be eaten as its advertised on the menu and not as two separate dishes (veg & main)
The way the hotel restaurant staff were running around reminded me of Polly and Manuel and Fawlty Towers
As for breakfast the only real choice I had was 1 or 2 eggs with the full breakfast
I wanted to score this as a 3.5 because I felt it better than a 3 but...
