Lovely pub in centre of picturesque Beddgelert. Distinct impression from the two persons serving at the bar that non-Welsh speakers were not very welcome. Whilst obviously able to speak English, they would make a point of sharing what seemed to be a joke between themselves in Welsh whilst serving us. Left with the feeling that this joke was at our expense. I ordered gammon steak with chips and fried egg, my friend ordered fish and chips. The fish was a dry, thin oblong of the sort you buy from Iceland in the 'economy' section. The gammon steak was very thin, dry and overcooked. Both meals were, bizarrely, served with swede, carrots and broccoli. The chips were McDonalds style fries. We noticed that other customers were getting served with what looked like hand cut chunky chips. When the woman I presume to be the manager was asked why we had cheap fries and had not been served the plainly better chips, she answered "Well they can't have been that bad - you've eaten them". And off she walked. The gammon was ÂŁ13.50, the fish ÂŁ10.50. Steeply priced, even if they had been ok. They weren't, and were eaten as we were hungry. My friend complained to one of the waitresses and secured at ÂŁ5 refund. Fair enough, but the fact remains it was highly priced and very low quality food. All in all, very poor....

They have limited space and limited ability in the kitchen to cater to special requirements, so we felt a little "boxed in" to their menu. For the kids, we asked if they could do eggs, beans and chips as they only had meat options for kids - at first the answer from the chef was no. But later the waitress came out and said he agreed to do it. So in the end everyone had a good meal and pleasant experience.
It's very much like going back in time with all the old decorations and menu style. You get the pros of that (quaint, home cooking) and the cons (unflexible menu).
The other thing was that we finished our meal and the waitress brought us the bill before we asked for it. That felt a little strange, as we were planning to order desert. We saw others near us eating deserts, but felt it rude to ask once the bill was delivered. Almost felt like they wanted us to leave (maybe they didn't want the young...
Read moreWhat a lovely find! We were encouraged to dine at the Tanronnen Inn by the owners of the air b&b we are staying at. Really pleased we decided to give it a go. Lovely main courses with generous portions, beautifully cooked meats (my son had the lamb shank, my mother the braised beef and I had the hot & spicy Korean chicken) all cooked perfectly and super tender. I am a wheelchair user and the staff were very accommodating despite being at full dining capacity. We sat in the foyer area and despite being out of sight the waitresses were all very attentive. Main courses were on the expensive side of things averaging £19 a meal) but the quality of food is worth the money. Desserts were exceptional and I would highly recommend the vanilla pannacotta with fruit compote which was heaven on a plate. My mother had the orange torte which was beautiful and the apple pie and custard was a great success too. Wonderful and friendly staff, a lovely pub/restaurant with interesting decor and a homely feel. Would definitely recommend a visit and we will definitely...
