I am usually quite generous with reviews, but this one I can't be, as you can read below there are only two positives to this hotel.
Avoid if you can, unless you are a fan of outdated, noisy, sweltering, uncomfortable hotel rooms!
Not a 3 star hotel, might have been in the 1980's but not today.
There were only 2 modern things in the room, us and the tv.
The advertising of this hotel is massively misleading, the photos only show a few of the nice areas, the rest is very outdated, tired and in need of updating.
Positives...
-Staff are friendly -Breakfast options are good
Negatives...
-Everything else -Rooms are dated, they look fresh out of a brochure for the 1980's -Room heating doesn't work, or should I say it does work but you can't turn it off -Bathrooms are dated -Bathroom had bugs (see below) -Creaky flooring -Could hear footfall and noise from corridor -Could hear noise from disco -Staff hygiene
Stayed for two nights. The first night the room was way too hot, the radiator couldn't be turned down, ended up having the window open all night to let in some cooler fresh air, the instant downside of this was the noise from the dual carriageway right next door and boy/girl racers using it as a drag strip at 1am. Also found silverfish in the bathroom!! Not good.
Asked for a new room, which we got, in what is supposedly the renovated part of the hotel (the reception, breakfast and dining area eludes to it being renovated) but the rooms at that end were just as dated and stuffy and bland as the first one.
To top it off, the second room was close to one of the rooms hosting a disco....which after a long day of exploring the fine Northern Ireland sights is the last thing you want to endure... soundproofing isn't good, exemplified by the sound of voices and footfall in the corridor outside the room, which makes it feel like they've used cardboard for walls.
Because we had to have the windows open in both rooms, the second room being close to the kitchen then the smell of breakfast food then wafted through the window, which tainted our clothes.
One other thing to mention is that when we went to the bar for drinks, one of the bar staff was blowing their nose into a paper towel, once they'd finished and binned the towel they did not wash their hands, they then proceeded to pick up a tea towel and begin drying glasses fresh out of the dishwasher, glasses that would then be used for customer drinks. Nice! Not.
Besides these, the staff were nice, but the hotel itself is not. Would not recommend if you are after a relaxing, quiet,...
Read moreHad a bad experience for parents 40th wedding anniversary which the lodges bad staff and terrible attitude wrecked what should have been a special occasion. Party split up.and put in a cramped area in separate tables away from.eachother, poor carvery selection and taking 1hr to bring cake out after asked and told they'd forget and cake dropped and the just left, taking a further 30mins to bring a knife or plates. Wrote a review was contacted by management to contact them first before writing review. Now I don't write reviews for compensation we refused a voucher as not the reason. After speaking to them family gave a 2nd chance. And had another family party there. Only to be met by the rudest manager ever, shouted at a few guests, who tried to help. Now I went to move a table trying to help. (Now hands up saying sorry I get health and safety) but to be shouted and screamed at was not needed. Later that night a drink fell on dance floor and a friend cleaned it up straight away trying to be helpful. Well carol the unfriendly manager came in shouting and barging turned on all the lights cleared the dance floor over something which had been cleared up. Having worked hospital over a small spill this is not needed disrupting people's party this way. Leaving guests feeling very uncomfortable. Along with other issues through night, now brother and sister in law where drunk and thanked Keith on way home just be polite. But asked me to put together a email rather than doing a review liked asked by management as a few guests complained to them about rude staff, drinks being lifted etc.. Now positives young girl at bar over worked but only nice friendly waiting or bar staff I've really ever met there. Positives from parents party, was the nice reception area for everyone to sit after sp we actually got a chance to talk and catch up after a terrible meal and being split as a group even though promised to be sat together as was a special dinner. So I did, and talk about a rude response, was told we must be hard to please, and not even given an apology, I started email with some positives then the bad, but was totally ignored, told good luck bye and thanks for having party. That they said thanks at end of party so why complain now. So unprofessional!!! I just don't think they can accept any criticism. And we are not hard to please see look at my other reviews 99.9% are positive 4 stat plus I just do very...
Read moreWe went lastnyt for a family meal for our daughters 40TH Birthday..Firstly the decor is lovely, we had a lovely girl that served us, friendly and helpful, her boss wasn't a friendly, seemed like everything was a bother, I got the numbers wrong for the Meal, we needed 3 more seats which to me wasn't an issue as the place was quite empty, plenty of spare tables around us, the girl said no problem but the team leader or dining room boss said NO not possible, the other few tables beside us were booked, I said we don't need another table, just 3 more chairs..he eventually shook his head and 3 chairs came, this was a Tue nyt, place was almost empty, not busy at all..orders given and food came in good time, thats when I was very disappointed, tobacco onions were mushy, soggy, not crispy, chicken ws ok, garlic fries ok, I used to love the food in the Lodge, sadly not lastnyt, 1 guest got crispy chicken, overcooked and he could hardly cut it, it wasn't a super busy nyt like a Fri or Sat, it was a Tue nyt, the prices they charge the food going out should be better and perfectly cooked..I'm not one to complain on the night, I just don't return to the establishment, I asked everyone at the table if their meals were nice and they all said, its OK, it shouldn't be ok, all meals should be tasty, lovely, wanting guests to return again and again and recommend the Bistro to others..I asked for the 2 candles to be lit on the birthday cake and 3 sparklers, the bistro manager or whoever he was said No, only 1 sparkler can be lit because of the smoke!! I've never had an issue like this in any other establishment..I think the tall bold headed Bistro manager or whatever he is does need retrained, our server was lovely, friendly, blonde haired girl, I'm sorry I didn't get her name, or his, but he made me feel quite uncomfortable, I regret now not saying something to him lastnyt but I felt intimidated by him, the standards have slipped in the food, when people are paying hard earned money for a starter and mains then the food should be outstanding, whether its a 2star or 5star..we have eaten in small cafes that the food was nicer, perfectly cooked food, hot and tasty, The Bistro in the Lodge Hotel was under par im afraid and I wont rush back, there are better places to eat and have a more pleasant...
