My recent stay at this hotel was nothing short of a disaster. When I entered my room, I felt like I had entered a cold, damp dungeon with minimal amenities. The room, located in the basement, had only one small window that allowed all the light to invade the space at night, making it nearly impossible to get a decent night's sleep. The bathroom was another horror story. Not only did I have to deal with water leaking into the shower, creating damp patches everywhere, but the overall cleanliness left much to be desired. The bed sheets were stained with what seemed to be an orange make-up foundation, raising serious questions about the housekeeping standards of this establishment. To add to the discomfort, the radiator in the room didn't work, leaving me shivering in the cold. It felt like the hotel was not interested in providing guests with a comfortable environment. I contacted the staff regarding these issues, but their response was lacklustre; they felt fake and forced. The lack of a wardrobe or storage space in the room only added to the inconvenience. It was a struggle to keep things organised, and I couldn't help but feel like the hotel was cutting corners at every turn. A significant and frustrating issue also marred my stay—the complete lack of a working Wi-Fi connection. Nowadays, reliable internet access is a basic expectation for any accommodation, and the hotel's failure to deliver on this front disappointed me. In conclusion, my stay at this hotel was a regrettable experience. The cold, damp atmosphere and the leaking bathroom and unclean sheets made for an incredibly unpleasant stay. I came home and my bedclothes smelt damp. I would strongly advise anyone considering this hotel to think twice before subjecting themselves to such subpar accommodations.

Lowering to 2 stars - hotel kept my £100 deposit (despite saying they would return it). It took several weeks and multiple emails before they finally confirmed they had indeed forgot to return it. Be careful to check that yours is returned if you stay here! I’ll update this if/when I get my money back. Update: almost one month and many emails later they finally refunded me ——— Rated 3 stars, though others in our group would likely rate higher. Pros: The woman at reception was incredibly friendly and welcoming. The hotel went above and beyond with complimentary touches (breakfast in bed, a glass of prosecco, and cookies before bed were all amazing). Cons: Unfortunately, the man working at the bar was quite rude. Rather than chatting with guests, he talked AT us, often interrupting mid-sentence to boast about living in Italy and make sweeping, condescending statements like “all Italians prefer prosciutto to salami” and questioning whether our pizza was authentic. It felt more like an interrogation than hospitality, and we eventually chose to wait outside rather than stay in the lounge when waiting for the rest of our party. The rooms were also a disappointment (honestly the smallest I’ve ever stayed in). There was no desk, chair, mini fridge, or even space to place items (staff had to put welcome materials on our bed because there was nowhere else). We had to manoeuvre around the bathroom door to get into the bathroom, and the door didn’t grant much privacy. They were also very stuffy, but opening the windows wasn’t really an option due to the loud noise from drunken people on the street below.

I booked a night at The Cow Hollow Hotel from the 11th-12th of October to celebrate my partners and my birthday as they fall on the same week, after a tough year we both needed a treat. We had a great experience checking in with welcoming friendly staff and the room, though a little small, was wonderful. Unfortunately during the night my partner had a nosebleed resulting in blood on the sheets. Not wanting to cause embarrassment I decided to grab some spare sheets myself from the storage room, I had previously seen, to replace the bedding. At 8:00am we where awoken by the room phone ringing which we answered too late and there was nobody on the other end. Not even 10 seconds later there was a loud braying on the door. We answered to one of the managers Darren accompanied by another manager Darren stated "we have cctv and have seen you stealing from our storage cupboard". I obviously recognised the mistake instantly and tried to explain the situation but couldn't get a word in edge ways. After Darren's accusations I closed the door, collecting the bloodstained sheets and took them to the lobby. The condition of the sheets made it obvious exactly what had happened. Instead of apologising Darren decided to Double down saying the owner has told him to bag search us at checkout. All of this was absolutely disgusting behaviour, Darren was rude, judgemental and condescending and made me and my partner feel like criminals. This whole escapade made my partner and myself feel very uncomfortable, so much so that we were too shocked and angry to enjoy our breakfast and decided to pack and leave straight away at 9:00am 2 hours earlier than anticipated leaving us with hours to wait until our lunch reservation. On checking our Darren conducted a public bag search in the lobby in front of other guests. We were both mortified and embarrassed, however I did take the opportunity to record this as it was simply unbelievable.

I emailed the complain about the situation after and got totally blown off most likely by the manager on question. Would not...

The ultimate triumph of style over function.

It’s difficult to know where to begin on what was wrong, so let me start by saying what I liked:

the staff and service were excellent. The bar was good. The breakfast was nice. Everything else was terrible.

We had a very poky room - 16. Dark, the blinds don’t open all the way because of entry door. Lights very dim and not much natural light.

Bathroom tiny, sink just big enough to get one hand in. Shower appalling. Runs hot and then cold with no warning. At least toiletries were nice. Towels minuscule

No cupboard or drawers to put things in. Not even a kettle or a table. Nowhere for luggage . 3 hangers on the main door but otherwise literally no space for anything.

Floor uneven and already scuffed - I assume it is recently opened. Even the bedside table (which was one of few spaces other than a small shelf which was occupied with water and a speaker) was taken up by a massive bedside lamp - which was dull when switched on.

So basically if you’re impressed by looks, this may appeal to you. However if you want simple things like space and cupboard, shelves , somewhere to put your luggage, a decent sized towel or a shower which doesn’t suddenly go cold and then hot again I can see the appeal. My regret is that I booked 4 nights and with the no refund / cancellation policy, I’m stuck for the duration. My advice is to Avoid at all costs unless you’re wanting to do a photo shoot, or are only there for one night with no luggage.

It’s a shame that the things which are usually harder to get right like Efficient and genuinely friendly staff are spot on . This is let down by structural issues like size of room, decor and lack of even the most basic facilities (reliable water supply, reasonably sized towels and space to...
