I like to be as positive as possible, so I have given the hotel 4 stars. The room was nice and comfy, and the staff friendly and attentive. Also the location really suited us, so that was a plus point.
However, some minor issues - no soap in the shower dispenser, thus really gets on my nerves as you only realise by the time you are in there, and getting your own soap becomes a real pain. Then the coffee, only 2 sachets for 2 people, really? OK I can go downstairs to reception to get more, buy skimping on the coffee, sugar, etc really gets on my wick. Then, the card...this is the scenario where you have to put the card into the slot on the wall to get power. But you need it to use the lift. So when there are 2 of you, if 1 needs to go to the car, he takes the card so he can get back in leaving the wife sitting in a dark room. Again, one can ask for an extra card but you don't know you need one until you get to the room. Reception should be issuing 2 or at least asking.
Finally, I would give the restaurant 0/5, it was dire. I had a chicken curry, it must have been the smallest portion I have ever had eating out, I thought it was a starter. The wife had fish n chips, the fish was very overdone and slimy, it was edible but not by much. She had ordered a chilli, but it was not available, fair enough but the server made her feel like she had asked for something she knew they did not have, very strange attitude. Oh and there was no mango chutney with the curry, no alternative offered (a bigger portion perhaps?) or lower price.
I never eat in these restaurants but we had a long journey, I could not see an alternative within walking distance so we decided to eat in on this occasion. Unlikely to risk this again.
So in summary, if stayed here again I would make sure to ask for a second room card and extra coffee on arrival, and bring my...
Read moreWe stayed here recently for two nights, as part of a sightseeing trip to London. The hotel is ideally situated, accessible just off the A1, and within walking distance of a range of restaurants and fast food places, and the main train line into London. When we arrived on the Saturday we were around 3 hours too early for check in, so my husband spoke to the receptionist to see if we would be able to leave our car whilst we went into London for the afternoon. We were surprised to find that not only was our room ready, but we could check in, meaning our bags could be safely stowed before leaving. The room was what we have come to expect from Premier Inn - clean and with plentiful amenities. Coffee and tea making facilities were well stocked, as were the dispensers in the bathroom. Despite being so close to the A1, no traffic noise could be heard in the room unless the window was open. The room had air conditioning, which was efficient, if not a little noisy. We opted to eat out in the evenings, but enjoyed a full breakfast for the two mornings we were there. Hot plates were cooked to order and we were able to specify the items and the amount we wanted - the only disappointment was that there was no black pudding due to supply issues! The continental option was plentiful, with six different cereals, yogurts, pastries, fresh fruit, and bakery items for toasting. There were three juice options, as well as iced water, and coffee and tea making facilities. The hotel is just 20 minutes away from London Kings Cross via train, and these were regular (some took longer depending on the number of stops between Stevenage and London, but the maximum travel time was around 40 minutes). It’s the perfect hotel if you’re wanting a weekend break in the capital but don’t want to pay over the...
Read moreBooked 3 rooms and requested that we needed an early check-in at 2pm because we were hosting a large party in the locality. The receptionist on the phone was so helpful and promised would put a full reason for the early check-in and that the rooms will be ready for us and that it would all run smoothly at our arrival.
When we arrived it took receptionist 25 minutes to even check us in even though we were first in the queue. Eventually rooms allocated. One of the rooms, walked in and there was someone actually lying in the bed so broke all Premier Inn's Covid rules and promises as it was a "dirty room". One of the other rooms, we walked in and it had not been made up and was dirty from the night before. Again breaking all Premier Inn Covid precaution promises. Went down to reception to complain. Took another 20 minutes to get "clean rooms" allocated. So we were very late at hosting the party which was embarrassing and totally inconvenient.
This issue was taken up with Premier Inn customer relations (twice) because it broke all of Premier Inn Covid precautions and also the Good Night Stay Guarantee. Their only response was there were some learning points for management of the Hotel and that was it. No refund of any sort.
Do not stay at this hotel and think twice about staying at other Premier Inns if the Senior Management Team at Premier Inns think that our awful experience to be perfectly acceptable. Their Covid promises are meaningless as is the Good Night...
