Possibly the worst Premier Inn I have ever stayed in. Our family booked this hotel so that we would have a day at the nearby Harry Potter world and wouldn't have to travel up/back to Dorset in a day. Having only achieved 4hrs of broken uncomfortably hot sleep, driving would have been a better, more restful option. There is no AC in the room so the temp stayed steady at 28 deg all night. The plug in fan didn't cool the room and wouldn't oscillate. You couldnt open windows without the din of traffic noise from adjacent A411 so were trapped in the heat. Children couldnt sleep until 2am then were woken at 6 by noisy neighbours above (I think it was Hagred). Noise from restaurant speakers also permeated the room until 11pm. The room was dusty and dirty with unidentifiable brown splashes to back of toilet seat and rubbish under one of the beds and food wrappers down the side of mattress. To top it all off, after being rudely awoken at 6am, I couldn't even make a cup of coffee as the kettle tripped all of the electrics in the room plunging us into darkness. Gave up on this one after 3 goes!! Cooked breakfast in the restaurant was mediocre at best. Friendly staff but poor cooking (overcooked eggs, barely cooked bacon and mushrooms baked under a heat lamp). Continental selection was fine. When reporting all these issues in the morning, the staff were very friendly, apologetic about the cleanliness however acknowledge issues with excessive heat in the rooms and the electrical faults with the kettle. Why are these rooms on sale to families or anyone for that matter??? Finally I have more space in my modest house bedroom than in the "family room" of this hotel - which looks to be basically just a standard double with an extra 2 beds shoved in. I would have been less tired...
Read moreA pretty poor experience from the start.
When we arrived the first evening we were met with rude night staff. We were made to feel as if we had interrupted their evening (how dare we). When asking about breakfast options they begrudgingly explained options. We then headed to the room on the third floor and we were met with a in room temperature of 29 degrees C. The outside temperature being about the mid 20s. The room has no air conditioning. Something that was not explained to us when we checked in. The room does have a fan sat in the corner provided but this is as effective as someone wafting tissue paper at you all night. Be prepared for a hot night's sleep.
Information on breakfast between day and night staff is inconsistent. Night staff told us we had to book a time which we did. When we went to book the second days breakfast the day staff told us we didn't need to book a time. Even when questioned about having to do so that day they assured us we didn't. When we arrived for breakfast we were met with the rude staff and confusion. We explained we had paid for it and was told and assured we didn't need a slot. Their response was to come back 2 hours later (not like we had plans which is why we wanted an early breakfast). Begrudgingly they seated us.
My service rating would be 0 if it could was it not for saving grace of one staff member who actually smiled and went above and beyond to help us with printing a voucher we needed for an attraction in London.
Location you're prime for Watford centre short walk away. With overground links to London also a short walk away.
Otherwise not the Premier experience you are promised on the adverts and other...
Read moreThe Premier Inn at Watford Central is about 15 minute walk from Watford Junction with fast connections into London, although be aware that off-peak doesn't start until 9:30 and that's the difference between £40 and £80 on a family travel card. It is also ideally located for the Warner Brothers Studio tour London via bus from Watford Junction or a 15 minute drive. There is a Tesco across the road for those items you;ve forgotten.
Unfortunately for me this is where the positives stop.
I have stayed here a number of times and was disappointed to see the car park charges increased to £8 a night. I underestand prices have increased but it costs no more to have the car park and an extra £50 charge on top of the holiday when it's a car park on your own property is just money grabbing.
The room was an uncomfortable temperature never dropping below 22 degrees despite leaving the windows open (as much as they open) all day. There is a fan in the room but all that does is circulate the hot air, it wasn't even a particularly warm week ~16 degrees outside so I feel sorry for people trying to stay in Summer, there is no AC - the unit simply heats the room (Which we had turned right down)
The floors must be made of cardboard as we heard the people above walking around at all hours of the night and sounded like elephants.
Apart from at the weekend they ran a skeleton staff at breakfast and whilst the young gentleman was lovely it was clear to see that he was being asked to do too much and couldn't give the customers the service he had at...
