We are checking out 4 days early because of the way we have been treated by the front desk. We lost our home in a fire and our insurance placed us here to accommodate us and our pets. This is supposed to be a pet friendly hotel but it is anything but that. The pet floor is on the first floor and they placed us in a room right down from the elevator and there are public restrooms right across the hall from our room with hallways that are very narrow. The first day there they had people mowing right outside our window and our 2 dogs that are very friendly and well behaved started barking. The front desk called my wife that was 30 minutes away at our home that burned to tell her that our dogs were barking and we needed to do something about it. For the last 3 days of our stay we have been called, looked at like we are a problem and have come in to find towels stuffed under our door. The people at the front desk especially in the afternoon/evening come across as if they are better than you and that we are a charity case..they don't smile or speak when you walk in. I have traveled the world and have stayed in the nicest resorts and hotels that money can buy and this place is far from world class. It is a poorly revamped old motel that needs to learn how to treat their guests with a little hospitality, especially at a time of tragedy that we are going through. We stayed at the Holiday Inn in Bristol, Va for 21 days before checking in here and did not get one complaint about our dogs. The Holiday Inn treated us like family and showed genuine concern for us in our situation. The pet floor needs to be on the 3rd floor (like the Holiday Inn) so dogs hear less noise and foot traffic. We only moved from the Holiday Inn because they were booked ahead for the race but thank God they had some cancellations and we can go back. This motel that pretends to be a luxury hotel will lose about $1,200 for the time we were supposed to stay here. The only reason we gave 1 star is because of the sweet lady who worked the breakfast area..she was very hospitable and helpful. If you hired more like her than the snobs who work the front desk, you'd have a better business. My advice, go down the road to exit 7 in Bristol, Va and stay at the Holiday Inn, especially if you have pets and want a comfortable bed that is bigger than the hard, full size beds that they...
Read moreCheck in was fast, too fast. They took our card swiped it and said no incidentals when I asked about them. Next morning we get in the elevator, poop and pee from someone’s pet all over the floor of the elevator. I advised the front desk and we decided not to eat there after that. Next morning same thing. On the 3rd morning I noticed I had additional charges on my account from them. We paid 1459.00 for 6 days upfront and they were charging us for each day additionally. 2-300 each time. I went in and talked with them about it, they said they would reverse them and gave a receipt showing the reversals. Next morning same thing again with the charges and mess in the elevator. The bed was comfy… the carpet needs to go it’s dirty and smells, the bathtub looked like someone had pooped in it and smeared it down to the drain. The doors were peeling from something chewing on them. We bought shower shoes so we wouldn’t have to have bare feet in the bathtub which turned out to be dirt on the bottom of it. We also wore them around the room because of how dirty the carpet was.The room was musty and dank feeling. It’s a very outdated hotel and the pictures on Travelocity do not show the real deal.|My key card stopped working and I had to get a new one the guy at the desk didn’t ask for any id or anything other than the room number when he gave me new card, I’d never seen him before. Very scary! We didn’t eat there because of the smell from the elevator every morning. Couldn’t use the stairs with no light to avoid the elevator. Checkout was insane because of the reversals and holds on my card. The cleaning people were discussing what they do in peoples rooms when they go in to clean them, I don’t think we were supposed to hear that conversation. I took pictures of what was in my suitcase before we let them in to clean.Overall we will never go back and would not recommend. The town was amazing, staff was great but the hotel was...
Read moreWe stayed here overnight on our way home from a softball tournament. It's an older Country Inn & Suites. For the record, I mostly stay at Marriotts and Hyatts. There were no Hyatts in the area and the Marriotts were pricey for what I wanted to pay to stop for a quick sleep and keep going. I've been at a Country Inn before and honestly, they've always had the best customer service and southern hospitality. We got a great rate for this one as well. My daughter loved the fresh baked cookies in the lobby. There was a great Mexican restaurant you can walk to, that's behind the hotel but it's likely cold in this area so don't feel judged if you drive there.
I started this review by saying it's an older hotel. But that's it. This hotel is spotless. Kudos to the cleaning crew for the hard work they put in. The guy at the front desk was also super helpful and friendly. When you've been driving all day, it's so nice to be greeted by someone friendly and willing to help. The room was spacious as well and we all got a great night's sleep before hitting the road after breakfast.
Breakfast was great. I feel like Country Inn always has biscuits and gravy. They're not grandma's biscuits & gravy but for free breakfast off I-81, they were amazing. I love all of the fresh fruit options they have. They also didn't have a water dispenser so they had mini-bottled water available. They had a few different options for black tea and I was so grateful. Sometimes hotels have Lipton, which is not tea (no offense) and/or herbal tea, which does nothing for us morning tea lovers. Earl Grey and English Breakfast are a must and they had...
