Cracker Barrel Old Country Store — Restaurant in Abingdon

My husband and I have been to this particular Cracker Barrel quite a few times in the past ten years we've lived in Abingdon Virginia. Mostly we have chosen to call in our order and pick it up. Usually we order the six piece grilled chicken dinner. The chicken is tasty. We get three sides each. The mac and cheese, okra, corn, green beans, mashed potatoes, cole slaw, broccoli, kale salad, hash brown casserole and pinto beans are all good. You get a choice of either two cornbread muffins or two biscuits each. We both get the cornbread muffins bc they taste so good. They're on the heavy side and may be a bit dry for some people but we enjoy the taste and texture. We've both had the biscuits and though they taste good they're usually a bit hard and a bit dry. If you like homemade chocolate cake theirs is excellent. The price for the six piece grilled chicken dinner with three sides and two cornbread muffins or biscuits is around $11.50-$11.80. We had Cracker Barrel for dinner just a few days ago and that's what we paid for each dinner. The dinner doesn't include drinks but I think the price per dinner is fair. We've bought a turkey bacon and ranch sandwich from Arby's which is tasty as well but they were #14.00 each when we bought them last which was mid 2023. Just a warning to anyone who might stop at Exit 19 in Abingdon VA: McDonalds is awful and Burger King isn't much better. Dairy Queen is usually good. My husband and I order the Crisp apple mimosa pitcher to start and about 3 gulps in, my husband and I could feel the warm and fuzzy feeling lol. Definitely worth it

I ordered the hashbrown shepherd pie. It was delicious. I probably wouldn't order it again.. only because I'm very picky. It has to be a 10 for me to want to re order something.. but its definitely delicious.

The corn bread was ok.

As a server I would have to say our server sucked lol. Definitely not trying to be rude because I usually have a ton of patience for servers but there's absolutely no reason we waited 20 minutes for a box when, from what I can see, savannah had 3 tables

My husband ordered the southern fried chicken with mac and cheese and hashbrown casserole. It was juicy and delicious. The crispy skin was fantastic. The Mac was creamy and slightly cold and the hashbrowns were cheesy and crispy at the same time. The cornbread was alright and the green apple mimosa is stronger than it looks for sure. I tasted my wife's shepherd pie and I have to say being a meat eater that may have been the most tender and flavorful beef roast I have ever tasted at a restaurant. We were disappointed in the service that we received midday on Dec 1, 2024. We frequent Cracker Barrel’s across the country when traveling and are usually very pleased with the food and service. However this time was different. Our waitress, Candace, had a sweet personality and made sure our drinks were filled. But unfortunately that’s where the praise stops.

While we sat waiting for our food, the table to our right had two different patrons seated, waited on and left while we still sat and waited. We waited for nearly 1.5 hours and finally said something. Our food came out pretty quickly after that. However, it was obvious it had been sitting under the heat lamps for quite some time. The order was also incomplete and inaccurate. Although the main dishes were right, I didn’t get the extra gravy I had asked for, and my eleven year old asked for hashbrowns and was given fried okra instead.
