Service- we booked through a travel agency. When calling to make our reservations she inquired about booking on the 17th floor. The representative didn't correct her in that the 17th was only for meetings. So my advisor was under the impression we would be getting a king room on a corner with a balcony on the 17th floor. My husband and I walked up to check into our room the lady was unfriendly just asked for name and drivers license and passed the keys to us. We looked at the room and it was on the 8th floor. Which in normal circumstances would be completely fine. When we questioned her about it and explained what we were expecting she pretty much shrugged her shoulder said that's all she could do and walked away. I moved away from the desk and called to speak to my travel agent. She apologized and got off to call the hotel to figure out the discrepancy. The original lady and I'm guessing some sort of manager just stood there going back and forth "trying to figure something out" would barely make eye contact with us. Finally after 30 minutes we realized the manager was not going to call us over. My husband and I walked back up to the counter for them to say it was mostly my agents fault for calling to ask about staying on the 17th floor even though their representative failed to correctly explain to my agent. We told them we were fine with the room as we are not confrontational. The following morning we went down to have breakfast at one of the on site restaurants NIIJII. We waited over 10 minutes before someone finally acknowledged us. We were seated and handed the menu. Waiter then comes over and said "well do want food?" We didn't have a chance to look at the menu. That afternoon we had a spa appointment. That was the one saving grace about this resort. When we entered the spa we were immediately greeted and shown where to go. The ladies were amazing and was respectful to keep the environment calm and relaxing. We ate dinner at Aerie and though the decor and sights were beautiful the rest of the experience was mediocre at best. The NY strip and potato had no seasoning. The best thing on the plate was the Brussel sprouts. The GT cherry martini was good as well.
Room- the lobby is beautifully decorated which the rooms definitely lacked. The bathroom looked like it was remodeled recently. The mirror and lighting was great for doing make up. The shower was a disappointment it was huge however the door didn't close and though there was room for another person the shower head sprayed maybe 1.5 ft from the wall. So if you are wanting to shower with your significant other you will have to play tag your it and wait your turn. The view from the room was stunning. The bed was comfortable. The tv was definitely out dated and very small channel selection. The door to the balcony was hard to open, and the outside door had holes and a bunch of wear and tear and barely closed.
Location- beautiful scenery surrounding the resort. Close to downtown Traverse and multiple wineries and distilleries.
Overall- we had the choice of many resorts in different states to choose from. I would definitely not recommend this resort. Spending a little under $2,000 for the experience we received is most definitely disheartening. My travel agent never used this resort before. After the experience we had I'm hoping there travel company never...
Read moreI wanted to create a really great experience for my child and a couple of her friends. Their high school prom is always held at the GT Resort. Ideally, we came up with the idea so that we wouldn't have to drive late at night for almost an hour with carpooling, they would be able to get ready on site, we ordered dinner while they were primping, and they easily took the elevator down to go celebrate their end of the year formal. The whole of the night was meant to be an awesome and convenient night. I found a sorta good deal but still ended up paying over $300 for less than a 24 hour stay. The man who checked us in couldn't have had a worse attitude. He was incredible snarky to me while we were sorting out booking arrangements. Nevertheless, I was determined to give her a great night. The room was very nice and clean. The beds were super comfy and the shower was something of a dream. However, since it was the end of May, it gets quite warm and nobody had informed me that the air conditioner was not working properly. It got to be 79 degrees in there by the time the night was coming to an end. We were F** miserable! We asked housekeeping to bring up a box fan. The lady who delivered it couldn't have been nicer. She even tried to see if she could get the AC to work properly to no avail. She apologized and went about her shift. We positioned the fan in an area where it would blow across both beds so we didn't have to sleep in a puddle. We woke up the next day and the room was now at 82 degrees. The fan was just blowing around the hot air in the room at that point. Everyone got packed up and we got out of there asap! It was a relief to just open the door into the hallway. As we were walking down the hall on our way out, I thanked and informed the housekeeping staff that was posted outside another room that the AC was not working properly to which they promptly replied "AGAIN?!" So, not only did the stick the single mom on a budget who found a "deal" online in a room with finicky temperature control, they KNEW it was broken and they STILL stuck us in that room. WHY would you put anyone in a room knowing that could be an issue? I work in the event industry and I am familiar with this resort as well as many others who host multiple events on site. It's safe to say, I was extremely let down by my experience from what most would consider and assume was going to be an amazing and magical experience for a few kiddos who get to have a night like that. So, next year, since my child is a senior this year, I think we will be checking out other options in that area and we will be staying somewhere nearby but not directly on site. I would rather drive the 45 minutes across town to chauffer these kids to and from what should be something they will remember forever. At least I know the AC in my car is dependable and it costs less than $300+ for the gas to and from. Not to mention, the cost these schools pay for this ballroom they use for their events, ANNUALLY! Needless to say, I was severely...
Read moreWell, we tried the casino a few months ago and had paint peeling and falling from the bathroom ceiling along with the carpet being torn in several spots so we thought we'd try the resort since it was offered on our casino flyer as the casino hotel is now being remodeled. Well....the room wasn't much better if at all, the bathroom fan was barely hanging on and made a bunch of noise when it was on, the ceiling tiles in the bathroom had water damage to them and seriously....they're just tiles, so easy to take out and replace with new ones but they're to cheap to do that so consider how cheap they are on things that matter to people. Then the window....the inner seal went bad maybe 15 years ago from the looks of it and they don't bother fixing it. Condensation has built up so badly in-between the window panes that you can't even see through the window anymore due to the mold and mildew build up inside the panes. Pretty simple fix again, just like the ceiling tiles but they are cheap cheap cheap cheap cheap. The pictures I've attached show these areas. When I reserved it I point blank asked if we would be able to upgrade to a suite and pay the difference like the casino allows. They said we'd be able to. Then the week of our stay I called the Grand Resort to get the room upgraded to a suite and was told that it would be no issue at all but that we'd have to do that when we checked in. They said they couldn't do it over the phone before check in and that as long as there was available rooms that we would be able to upgrade for the difference in cost at check in. So we get there after a three hour drive and ask the lady at the front desk about upgrading and explain our previous discussions with the two other agents and she checked and said they had plenty of suites available for that upgrade and then started to switch the rooms when another lady at the front desk working next to her stopped her and said they can't upgrade rooms that are part of the casino flyer offers....so we went through and explained to her the now three different customer service reps had said it would be no issue etc....as outlined above. She wouldn't listen and didn't care to listen to us explain things and said we can't upgrade unless we pay for the upgraded room in full....at that point it's not an upgrade it's a full fledged nights rental right ? She said yes, that's the way it is. Well, we're three hours from home so what do we do, we stayed in the basic room which really was barely basic and in horrible condition. We haven't had even decent experiences with Turtle Creeks hotel and now the Grand Resort as well. It's sad really, three customer reps say it's okay and no issue then one says no and stops the other one from doing what she thought was okay along with two others then refuses to even listen to us about the other two customer reps that said it was okay. She just told the other front desk person "no you can't do that" and walked away. Just go somewhere else to...
