DON'T BE DECEIVED BY VAGUE DECENT REVIEWS OF THIS PLACE. THE BEACH VIEW IS NOT WORTH IT.

We had a reservation actually made through Expedia having seen good reviews of this place. Its location on the beach is attractive. Upon arrival the outside maintenance when you get up close shows much wear and tear, in need of repair, surprising considering it is peak season with a long way to go in Door County. We entered the lobby and had to call for an attendant who came promptly. the lobby in general looked run down, and low budget for what we were paying for a room. It was generally uncomfortable. The attendant gave us our keys and instructions. He was pleasant, but quite difficult for me to understand despite the fact that I deal with lots of people from across the world on a regular basis. We passed through a short hallway to the hallway behind the lobby to our room. Again, the place just looks beat up. We opened the door to our room, it was hot and stinky. We looked up and the light fixture over the sink was missing a bulb, and had two old bulbs of different types in the other two sockets. The room needed painting, and literally everything in it was run down, and in need of repair. The towel rack in the bathroom had fallen off and the places of attachment were spackled and not even painted. Look at the images provided. A brief push on the beds showed they were soft and likely old. There was wall damage with what looked like mold by the door to the balcony. The balcony was very weathered with warped decking that needed to be nailed or screwed down in lots of places. Lots of potential splinters for bare feet. I went out to the lobby and spoke with the attendant, who again, remained pleasant, and requested that we be given a refund noting the our room was in poor condition, not at all reflective of the description, and the price. He immediately did so, telling us that allowing disappointed customers to leave and giving them refunds was not an unusual experience for him. He even offered us twenty...

I planned a trip to Algoma and Door County which is a familiar destination for us. Our usual place we love appeared to not be available. Via Expedia, with reasonable reviews seen. In fact, I AM AMAZED AND SURPRISED AT THE RECENT GLOWING REVIEWS OF THIS PLACE ALL FOCUSED ON THE LOCATION AND BEACH ACCESS. This motel is poorly maintained, and (see the pictures) THE ROOM WE RESERVED WAS IN BAD SHAPE: broken old light fixtures, moldy damaged walls, torn down towel racks not replaced and unpainted damaged bathroom wall, moldy worn out luggage racks, and on and on. In general the lobby and areas we walked through were dingy and really needed attention. |Because our room was so bad, we returned to the front desk and requested canceling without financial penalty, and the attendant quickly accommodated us informing me that apparently OUR TYPE OF REQUEST WAS NOT UNCOMMON AND HE WAS USED TO IT. He even offered us 20.00 for gas as an apology. He also said that many complain, but just stay for the beach and location.|I have encouraged Expedia to do something about this misleading listing that could leave travelers high and dry with few options in the Algoma area. After being there, I have to question the validity of many of...

There was never anyone at the desk whenever you needed someone you had to call. We asked them to give is a do not disturb sign because our room did not have one. We asked for extra soap and towels. The only thing we got were towels. If you have a room close to a door bugs will come in through that door and then into your room at night. When you wake up in the morning your room is filled with them by the bathroom. This is all dependent on how much other guest use that door. The room was outdated and the beds were very hard. The best thing about it is that it has a great place along lake Michigan to watch the sunrise. The cost of my room was to much because basic hotel goods were nonexistent. When people leave things in the room it is shoved in the dresser. So I found narcan in the room a so many brochures that really should have been thrown because of the state they were in. No alarm clock or clock in rooms. Breakfast was brought out late and was just packaged muffins. The room is very dirty and I am sure people before us were drug users. Never did I see staff there unless I called them. You get charged for room keys if they don't see two of them returned. When I wanted to check out nobody...

The rooms are a little bit dated and eclectically decorated, but they make up for it in service. Honestly the people at this hotel are so incredibly nice. There are 24-hour beverages at the office and they give you cinnamon rolls for breakfast and oatmeal and a few other things. If you thinking about going rock hunting in door county this would be the place you would want to stay. The beach is literally feet from lake and it is covered with agates and basalt geodes with crystals and also some amazing fossils. It is very low key it is not a busy town and everyone here is incredibly friendly. The motel is a few minutes away from some really good restaurants and right along the boardwalk. Fire pits and beach chairs for every room. Definitely try to get a lakeside view.

What this place has going for it is that it's right on the water. You have almost your own private beach and there are picnic tables and firepits and most room have a nice lake view. But everything else about it is subpar. Doesn't seem like they've spent much on upgrades since it was built, the rooms are very old school. The furnishings and decorations are super old and cheap and the deck furniture is the worst. Dirty, old, cheap, broken, and uncomfortable. The "contintental breakfast" is terrible. Theres no one working the desk after 5 pm or holidays. Honestly this place is kind of a dive that they spend as little as possible on maintaining, but it happens to be in a great location so they can get away with charging 100+ a night.
