Let me start by saying the food was amazing. I had an iced mocha that easily puts Starbucks to shame, a cinnamon roll that was most definitely homemade, and a “Mexican breakfast wrap” that was delicious. My qualms are not with the food at all.
The service is laughable at best. We had a party of three. We waited almost 15 minutes for coffee.
All three of us ordered the same thing. When we walked in they were at about 80% capacity so we figured we would keep it simple. I am on vacation- but back home I manage a restaurant with 2.5 million a year in revenue. So I get it.
However- a 55 minute wait for 3 breakfast burritos with scrambled eggs and chorizo is inexcusable. Every time I would walk up to the counter to inquire I got excuses. “We are busy” was the most common.
No apologies. No updates unless I personally inquired. No offer of any kind of rectification.
I hate to be “that guy” but this was asinine. $50 for BREAKFAST at the very least I expect communication.
This has so far been the worst experience of this trip and when we come back to the area in the future we will not be returning.
I do wish them the best of luck- like I said the food was good- hopefully with as many people as there are right now seeking employment you can find better...
Read moreFor years and years Tlazo's has been my go- to when out of town guests come to visit. Good food, nice atmosphere, and good service. I have always felt strongly about shopping local to support our small town businesses.
This past January I decided to use some of the Algoma Chamber of Commerce "Chamber Bucks" that I had gotten as gifts for Christmas. So, my guest and I headed off to Tlazo's for lunch.
We ordered, and I was about to pay. The owner looked at the two $10.00 certificates and said, "We can accept this one, but not the other one." (The certificates had been signed by two different chamber employees.) No explanation whatsoever. Suddenly, the owner's "issues" with the Chamber of Commerce became our problem. Since when is money not money? Apparently when the Tlazo owner feels like it!
To add just a further little bit of insult, after a wait of 35 minutes to get our food, the wait-person brought out our food and said, "Did you order the tap water?" Tap water? Really? You mean the same water you use to make your coffee? When was the last time a restaurant staff person used the term "tap water." She made it sound like they had gotten it from the toilet.
Farewell Caffé Tlazo. I no longer nerd to patronize...
Read moreGreat food, good drinks, awful service. Expect to receive your drinks after you receive your food. Don't expect any consideration. This has been our experience in multiple visits, and today I decided to bring up my concerns to the owner and was shocked at her rudeness.
If you doubt any honesty to this review, test it for yourself: Try to complain to the owner in a friendly/nice way about the service and see how she responds. She'll do her best to brush you off or make excuses, and in a rude way. Zero interest in customer care or feedback. Sad, because everything else is so great, but we'll probably never go back here just due to how we've been treated.
If you're not worried about good service and your only priority is good food, then it's still worth the visit. For us, customer experience matters a great deal. Thanks...
