Wingate by Wyndham Altoona Downtown/Medical Center — Hotel in Altoona

The hotel is really nice and clean, with all the amenities listed... but the staff at the front desk are just terrible. We had to drive up (9 hours overnight) on Monday for an unexpected death in the family. So we immediately booked up what was available (Monday - Friday) on the website, checking in on Tuesday morning at 5am. After checking in, I asked the front desk staff if there was any possibility to notify me about any openings for Friday and Saturday night, or to put me on a waiting list should a cancellation occur. We had to stay in town until Sunday for the funeral and would have preferred to stay at this hotel the entire time. They were not helpful what-so-ever. Hey... I understand if they're full for the weekend as of Wednesday, but you can't even write down my name in case something opens up in the next few days? I was basically told "No, good luck with another hotel." They already had my money for the 4-day stay, so they didn't care where we ended up the rest of the days. Thanks a lot for the days we did get, but we'll never be back at this hotel....

Very good place the person who's helped me out a lot her name is Pam shut out to Pam. It gave me a very good business deal if you're saying here for a long time ask them about it and you can get a big discounted rate. I am a traveler for the hospital so this is very close to the hospital meaning like a 2 minute walk from there. This place has a very good workout and a very nice pool that you can relax. Also have a business office where you can get on the computer if you need to do some business on the business on the Internet and they also have Wi-Fi here When you are staying... they also have a dryer and washer that cost 1.50 per load..... free coffee and tea in ur room. They also have a refrigerator in your room also with cable TV and a microwave also with a very comfortable chair lounge and very comfortable beds with clean sheets. Also from 6 to 9 AM weekdays are free continental breakfast. They have eggs bacon sausage oranges apples bagels and they have Orange juice cranberry juice...

The room was very clean. The bed was comfortable, one of the best I’ve slept in. The room has a microwave, mini fridge, a desk, a recliner, two bed side tables and a walk in shower. The water pressure and temperature was good too.

I have no complaints of the hotel. I can’t comment on the breakfast because we didn’t eat down there. But they do have coffee and tea all hours of the night. I can’t comment on the wifi either because I didn’t connect to it.

The staff is very helpful. There is a snack area where they have a huge variety of options of food and drink and some toiletries. Not ridiculously overpriced either.

Lastly, there are train tracks and Amtrak station right by hotel so the trains may wake you up if they have to Honk. We didn’t mind because we were there specifically for the trains and the Horseshoe curve but some may mind.
