This Hampton Inn & Suites has seen better days, but they are sadly a distant memory. The King Suite we stayed in doesn't appear to have been updated in any way since the hotel was built, and much like other purported 'amenities' such as the pool (which is essentially permanently out of service due to the fact that they can't pass an inspection because somehow they can't find anyone to do the kind of basic, routine pool maintenance my younger sister could handle quite competently at the age of 13), the room had been so poorly maintained that we were reticent to even use the moldy shower or let our six year old daughter sleep on the filthy sofa bed mattress that looked (and smelled) like it was pulled out of a dumpster at a homeless shelter. The king bed itself was comfortable enough, in line with what one would reasonably expect at a Hampton Inn, and their breakfast was fairly good if you got there quite early (sadly, they ran out of anything worth eating very early both mornings we were there). It would have been nice to know that we should have brought shower sandals, you know, like the ones you would wear in the showers of a dingy locker room, a poorly run camp or a prison. It would have also been really helpful if they didn't lie about having a pool that was safe enough for humans to use (it's out of service because they can't pass a safety inspection, and apparently haven't been able to for a very long time). There's not an abundance of ways to entertain a six year old in Altus, so we were really counting on the pool being available to provide some diversion for our daughter.
Their internet connection at the Hampton was essentially useless, not due to poor wifi coverage, but due to abysmally insufficient bandwidth from their ISP (which I assume had everything to do with the fact that they wouldn't pay for the kind of service a hotel of their size actually needs). We had to rely on using our smartphones as mobile hotspots for a functional iternet connection, which was probably a wise decision in any event considering that there was no security whatsoever on their wifi network. Everything was completely open, unauthenticated and unencrypted.
The only positive aspect was it's proximity to the Tamarack retirement home where some quite wonderful people were caring for my Nana who we came to visit.
Otherwise, it was a dilapidated carcass of a hotel that should be avoided like the plague.
At least the night manager was honest about the long-standing state of disrepair the hotel was in. That doesn't do anything to help the fact that we paid far too much for a room at a hotel that is in shambles and that continues to advertize amenities they don't have due to health inspections, but I suppose I appreciate the honesty...
Read moreUpdate 2: Saturday morning breakfast- bagels were all stale. Various other items were left empty when they ran out. Breakfast area was a mess. Tables in the lobby were not wiped. Someone did come to snake out our drain and it helped.
Update: we ended up forced back to the Hampton in Altus. Stayed on the top floor and it's quieter and cleaner, and breakfast was better (on the weekdays). BUT it's still in disrepair. The pool has been out for like 6 years now and they really need to just take it off of their amenity list. The water pressure is abysmal and the shower isn't draining. They said they would snake it today. So we will see...
Overall it's still overpriced for what we get.
Previous review: This was our regular spot to stay when we come in to town to visit family. It isn't anymore. It was dirty and noisy and we won't be back.
When we arrived I found dirty bedding on the sofa bed. I had to call for more and they neglected to bring a clean matress protector. I know Housekeeping doesn't scrub walls after every guest but clearly they don't even look at them for spills or spot cleaning. The walls around the sink area were not clean, as was the wall near the tiny trash can. The shower had mildew and soap scum around the bottom and there were dead insects, and maybe a small frog, in the bathroom light cover. The hallways even smelled bad.
We stayed in room 200 and the guest above us apparently got ready for work around 5am and we heard their booming footfalls loud and clear. There were significant gaps around the doors and so we were able to very clearly hear the very adult activities happening in another ro when walking the hall from the elevator to our room (and it wasn't as if they were being obnoxiously loud). Our morning alaem consisted of the sounf of slamming doors as Housekeeping cleaned surrounding rooms without any consideration of the volume of the slammed doors.
When we arrived there was no one at the desk to check in with and we had to use the wall phone to get someone to come out to us. When we went for breakfast there was no waffle mix or Oatmeal and no one around to ask about it. There is almost never anyone at the front desk. They go in the room behind and put the sign up to use the phone to call them. When they hear the desk phone they come out.
Oh and the pool is still "out of order" as it has been since the beginning of the...
Read moreOverall the hotel was nice. The floors were clean and the breakfast was always good. The one thing that will stop me from going back is I left 2 very nice shirts hung up in the closet. I checked out of the hotel and when I was just about to the airport I remembered I forgot to grab them. I called back and let the hotel manager know what happened and she said she'd send someone to get them. I finally heard back from the manager 2 months later (a few days ago) and she acted as if I had just called yesterday saying: "We looked and couldn't find your shirts." I informed her it had been 2 months and she didn't seem to care. I told her it was very strange that they were never found considering I haven't found them and I specifically remember forgetting to grab them out of the closet. She just said okay. And that was basically the end of the conversation. I'm concerned with the lack of care to the situation by management.
I also had a problem with my refrigerator so I called the front desk and a man answered the phone after about 15 rings. I told him what was wrong and he said he'd send someone up. When the maintenance tech got there, he said my friend had sent him up to my room. I told him I didn't know anyone there. He said that was strange and that there isn't a man that works there except for the maintenance tech and he didn't answer the phone. So he couldn't provide a reason on why some random guy answered the phone and was able to send the maintenance tech to my room. This concerns me because that means whomever this man was may possibly have access to the computer and my personal information.
Overall, I'd be careful about leaving anything behind as they don't seem to care about the property of people that stay there nor...
