I was pretty excited to find a chain hotel with an available "suite" at this price. The photos showed a nice, newer, updated hotel that was not fair from Wichita's center. Upon arrival, it was a little disappointing to see that the hotel was not the easiest to get to. You can only access the drive from one way as it is off of a divided highway. This didn't really matter that much, but it is something to note. Pulling in, we had to deal with some road construction but nothing too major. Parking was easily accessible and the lot was well maintained. The lobby was clean and inviting and the young lady checking us in was very pleasant.
The room on the other hand wasn't really as expected. The space was "fine" but the quality of the arrangements were disappointing. There were very questionable looking stains on the king bed's bed squirt, stains all over the chaise lounge looking sofa thing, the extra pillows and bedding we requested were not in the room, the phone was completely unhooked and not working, we had ants in the kid's room hvac unit, drawing all over the kid's room walls, among other issues. One the bigger ones for me was my side of the king bed had a sprung spring.
The website advertised that there would be a "Playstation" in the kid's room. However, there actually wasn't anything in there. We had to go down to the front desk and check it out. When we got the unit, it was a Nintendo Switch, not a Playstation. That wouldn't have been that big of a deal, but we would have like to know that so we could have brought our own Switch stuff to make it more enjoyable. The biggest downside to the gaming system was that it only had ONE controller and no extras available. Believe it or not, kids don't like to take turns and watch others have fun... For a "Kid's Suite" we expected more.
The hotel is currently under renovations. It was pretty easy to tell as soon as you left the lobby. Room doors were awkwardly painted, bathrooms were oddly "remodeled", and there was a bit of construction smell throughout the hallways. None of this was really "bad", but something to take note of...
The pool was great, but there isn't a hot tub on site. The breakfast and dining area are really nice, but the breakfast choices were extremely limited. The workout room was better than average and the laundry room was very clean.
Overall, I would rate the hotel a 2 out of 5 and would rate the quality of our stay around a 4 out of 10. Had our room been cleaner and better presented, I would have rated our stay around an 8/10 considering the other factors. I would likely stay here again, but not until they have plenty of time to get their facility finished...
Read moreFirst off I want to say; we had stayed in an IHG Hotel the night before (in Salina, KS) we checked into the Andover, KS property - the Salina property was AMAZING!
My daughter, her friend and I were staying in Andover for a volleyball tournament and we chose this hotel for it's location and have always had luck with Holiday Inn Expresses. From the outside it looked great! When I walked thru the sliding doors it was the complete opposite. I couldn't believe how dirty the lobby, front desk and lounge was. Not organized, dirty floors and tables filthy from breakfast (it was 3:30 when we checked-in). There was a sign at the front desk saying "They had stepped away and would be back soon". WHEN???? So, I waited and finally caught a cleaning lady and asked if there was anyone available to check me in. Here comes the front desk guy....RUDE! Didn't apologize for not being there, didn't welcome me, didn't look me in the eyes and barely spoke to me other than to take my money and give me my room cards. What I couldn't believe the most was how dirty and filthy the floors/carpet were all throughout the hotel.
Onto the room: Take the stairs if possible. The elevator is a bit loose (the door wobbles as it goes up and down) and makes a bit "thump" when stops. Get inside the room and to my surprise...not terrible decor wise....except, for the sloppy painting and caulking, continued running toilet, used bottle of complementary lotion on counter, no microwave, a mini fridge that looks like it came from a junk yard and trash under the bed. That evening we realized the T.V. didn't work either. Not even a news channel. Beds were comfortable though.
This didn't effect us so much...but, the pool was out of order during our stay. Would have been nice to know ahead of time for the couple that staying in the hotel along with us; as they had a younger child who was looking forward to swimming. There is only one ice maker that worked and it's on the main floor (we were on the 3rd).
Anyway, I think you get the picture. We will not be staying at the Andover...
Read moreWe have stayed in many Holiday Inn Express hotels and generally have a good experience. Let me begin by saying that the staff at this hotel was excellent. Considering the problem I had, Brian at the front desk was very accommodating and fixed the problem immediately. There was a female staff member when we checked in who ensured we were able to check in early to change for a wedding and we really appreciate that. That said, the room originally assigned to us was room 102. When we stepped into the room we immediately noticed a horrible smell and that the room was warm. When I checked the air conditioner, it said that it was 60 degrees. I wondered if it had to do with a lack of movement in the room or something of that nature but because we were pressed for time to get to the wedding, we did not have time to investigate. We restarted the air conditioner and left for the wedding. When we return to that night, the hotel room was horribly hot, and it smelled bad. With my allergies I cannot tolerate mildew smells and I certainly am not willing to spend the night in an uncomfortably warm hotel room. The windows are not able to be opened for fresh air so I decided to go down and ask to see if we can be transferred to a different room. Brian at the front desk was able to move us to room 209 which was exceptionally better. My rating is on the overall hotel and experience and not just one room or the other. On the main floor we noticed that the rubber sealant around the doors are all kind of falling off, and again room 109 was a sorry example of Holiday Inn Express room. The difference between room 109 in room 209 was pretty significant. Room 109 makes you feel like you're being in some corner of an old hotel in room 209 made you feel like you were walking into a clean, fairly modern room. We were happy with room 209 and very happy with the service of the hotel, but I cannot say that I would recommend staying there again. If I knew I would get a room like 2:09, then I would say go ahead. I just can't be positive that that would be...
