Best Western Cedar Inn & Suites Angels Camp, California, United States
Our family has been going to the Best Western Cedar Inn & Suites for over 20 years introducing many family and friends to this establishment.
Saturday May 30, 2020 we booked a suite for the eight of us for a quick overnight trip to New Melones lake. After getting situated in the assigned room, our daughters and friends decided to go for a swim and a jacuzzi. When we noticed that both the spa and jacuzzi were littered with debris. When we noticed this, we went to the lobby to report this to the front desk night manager named Corrie. Corrie said that she was the only one there and could not do anything about it. I offered to clean the pool if she had a net to screen the pool. After cleaning both e pool and Jacuzzi and using it, we decided to return to our assigned room. At around 10:30 pm, when we decided to retire for the evening, we discovered both a dirt old sock below the cushions of a pull out sofa bed, along with many two-inch wood screws laying there. We Reported this to the front desk. Corrie at the front desk seemed to be irritated that we brought it to her attention. We informed the young lady that two of our daughters were not comfortable sleeping in the bed due to the items being left in it and asked for her to inspect and to see what we could do to accommodate them for a clean place to sleep. Corrie asked us to wait so she could contact her manager but said that the only solution she could think of was for us to rent another room for them.
While waiting for a response or for her to come to the room, I had discovered that the pillow I was laying on in the bed had drops of blood on it, when I informed Corrie of this, she said that she is still waiting on her managers response. Corrie phoned us back saying the only option she had was for us to rent another room for $80.00 to accommodate my two daughters’. I informed her that this was unacceptable. When we made the reservation, we booked it for eight people and that they had a responsibility to offer sanitary accommodations to those eight guests.
After a while, Corrie came up to the room to inspect and said that she just had a cancellation on a similar room downstairs that she could offer us. After making the switch to the new room, we discovered that one of the bathrooms in the suite’s toilet was backed up and non-operational. Once again, the young lady apologized but said there was nothing she could do, but encouraged us to inform the on duty manager in the morning. Since the other half of the hotel suite had a functioning bathroom (for the eight of us) and with no other options, we decided to wait until the morning to notify the manager of our displeasure.
The next morning, we spoke with the assn’t office manager (Kim) and explained what had occurred and showed her photos.. Kim was both embarrassed and apologetic. Kim said that she will talk with her manager and get back to us.
After a short time, when we went to check out, Kim said that she spoke with her manager named Aaron Wise; Kim offered her apology again saying that that Aaron offered a $ 16.00 credit for our troubles.
UPDATE: Shortly after posting this review, I was contacted bye Aaron inquiring about my experience. During the discussion I mentioned that was originally reluctant to write such a review since I had been a long time patron of their services and that I felt that what I had recently experienced, I felt was an anomaly of how they do business, I think my experience was a byproduct of them trying to perform business as usual in a trying time forcing businesses to cut operating expenses in order to stay in business by reducing personnel.
I left the conversation feeling better about the Best Western Cedar Inn & Suites, that what we had experienced was truly an anomaly, that Aaron did care about what we went through , that unfortunately what we experienced was a business attempting to survive with uncertain...

It wasn't until the SHOWER went on that I heard a very loud rumble and deep growl coming from the walls. It frightened my daughter, whom was in the shower. Going to bed (very exhausted from our day), my bed, CREAKED AND GRINNED loudly, like metal on metal everytime I got off or onto it. These beds were HORRIBLE! They were extremely stiff and both my daughter and myself woke up with sore backs. My daughters ALLERGIES were going off and we didn't know why. We thought maybe the A/C Heat Combo Unit was the problem because it was EXSTREMLY DIRTY. She said she was smelling smoke. Come morning, we woke to the LOUD SOUND of little feet running back and forth above us. Got up, realized there was almost a 2-FINGER GAP under the door (there are inside and outside rooms). Explains the smoke she smelled in the night that set off her ALLERGIES. Also, opened the drapes and realized that our window was LEFT OPEN about 2 1/2 inches by House Keeping. That also explains her ALLERGIES and my being chilled in the night. Not to mention, the lack of BEDSPREAD or COMFORTER. Went to use the microwave was DIRTY. Aside from all of the issues, I'd like to share the UPSIDE to all of this. The Continental Breakfast was wonderful (U-make-waffles, cereals, bagels, yogurts, boiled eggs, toast, muffins, biscuits and gravy, bananas and oranges, hot cereal, almond and regular milk, coffee, tea). This also included a place to sit and eat. The location of the hotel is near amenities. The staff here was wonderful! Upon our check-out, I was asked how my stay was. We know not good, but, the hotel did infact consider the issues and...
Read moreThe good: Extremely clean, nice updated rooms, easy check in & check out, nice breakfast bar options, good internet, friendly staff, nice pool and spa
The bad: Our original room was 117 downstairs. It was INCREDIBLY noisy. You could literally hear anyone going in/out of their room all night, hallway conversations etc. It's not like patrons of the hotel were excessively loud or anything. Paper thin walls or something. The beds were really uncomfortable. My gf and i both slept terrible. The pillows were small, kind of half sized pillows so your head would kinda slip off of them.
We stayed here 2 nights. After the first night, we mentioned the noise to the lady at the front desk and she promptly put us in a different room upstairs (207 i think?). This room for whatever reason was significantly better, much reduced noise. But the bed was the same, super uncomfortable.
Overall I really liked the place, the staff was great, easy check in and check out, great amenities, very clean rooms/facility, but I probably wouldn't stay here again unless we had an upstairs room (way more quiet), and they change their beds. We got...
