To start off on positive notes, our room was spacious, clean, great location and the receptionist at check-in was pleasant. But....when we crawled into bed after a long day we discovered something was very wrong with our bed. It made a loud noise at every movement no matter how slight. Our daughter's bed was fine. We decided to wait and say something in the morning as we were so tired and in Pjs. Unfortunately the noise and some slight shifting of the bed kept us up most of the night. First thing the next morning we approached the receptionist at the desk. At first she wouldn't even look up at us or acknowledge us. Once she did my husband told her the bed may be broken, the noise, etc... She looked at us and said that they were getting new furniture in the near future. We're happy they are but that didn't help our situation at the time. We asked if there was another room available and she told us no, that there was nothing more she could do for us. Then she said to us she saw we had another bed in the room we could use. Yes...but our daughter is using it! !She said sorry but there was nothing that could be done. It was evident in her tone and the look on her face she really didn't care. We didn't have time to ask for or talk to a Manager as we're in town for a family wedding and had to be somewhere. Later on we decided to try and fix the bed ourselves. Took the mattress off and the box spring seemed ok so we then removed that. Discovered cross bars/braces were loose and not in place and one was wedged in wrong direction. My husband was able to put the cross bars back in place and secure them. When we pay to stay there we shouldn't have to take apart and fix furniture ourselves. Why the receptionist couldn't or wouldn't call maintenance to.come look at it is a mystery. On top of that, the toilet and sink were extremely slow to drain and the walls are so thin you can hear the people next to you holding a normal volume conversation. To end this on a positive note the receptionist at check-out was pleasant......but never asked how our stay was. So...
Read moreBrookstone Lodge: Ascend? More Like Descend into Disappointment.||Two stars. That's a charitable assessment, really. I booked the Brookstone Lodge with the expectation of a refined, boutique experience, given its affiliation with the Ascend Collection, which boasts establishments like the Haywood Park. What I encountered, however, was a stark contrast: a superficial facelift attempting to disguise what was essentially a Rodeway Inn. The cosmetic enhancements were glaringly superficial, failing to address the fundamental inadequacies of the property. The room itself was devoid of any distinctive character, offering only the barest of necessities. The promised amenities were conspicuously absent, contributing to an overall atmosphere of mediocrity. The "breakfast," if it can be called that, was a particularly low point. A meager selection of stale pastries and diluted, uninspired coffee hardly constitutes a satisfying morning meal. Moreover, the acoustic insulation, or lack thereof, was appalling. The walls, seemingly constructed from the thinnest of materials, offered no respite from the cacophony of the surrounding environment. Every whispered conversation in the hallway, every cough from neighboring rooms, penetrated the supposed sanctuary of my own space. And should you find yourself unfortunate enough to be assigned a room beneath another, prepare for an auditory assault. At 3:00 a.m., the upstairs occupants engaged in what sounded like a herd of elephants conducting a synchronized stomping routine, shattering any semblance of peaceful slumber. The disparity between the advertised Ascend Collection experience and the reality of the Brookstone Lodge was immense. If you seek the promised boutique ambiance and a restful night's sleep, I implore you to look elsewhere. This establishment is a profound disappointment, a testament to the deceptive nature of superficial...
Read moreWe paid under $85 total for a room, they were nice. But they informed us they were remodeling the rooms with all new furniture by the September 1st. I thought that the furniture was already nice. Will make a return stay to check out the improves. The 2nd and 3rd shift was very nice but the 1st shift man was not. We knew we would not be arriving until 11pm or after. So we looked for a place that the pool stayed open late. We talked to a person when we made the reservation. She said we couldn't that night but that we could check out in the morning the stay until 4 or 5 pm and swim. When we checked in I asked if this was still going to be ok, she said yes. Just to return room card and they would give us a card to get into the pool area. The next morning, I turned in the key to a man at the checkout. Told him about needing a key pool and that we would probably leave at 4 or 5. He said ok then gave us a card to get into pool. 1 hour later my son came back from going to the car and told me that man was wanting us to leave. I went to talk to him, he said we needed to leave by 1 or 1:30. I told him no, that he said it was OK for us to stay until 4 or 5. We had made plans to meet someone at 5:30, that we were not going to drive around Asheville for 3 or 4 hours. He finally let us stay until 4. When you tell your guest something you need to stick to it not change your mind later. Also, when I asked to talk to him a person cleaning the lobby went to get him he told me that he was busy and that he would be out shortly. I was standing there with a swimming suit on with a towel wrapped around me which he clearly saw when the door to the conference room was open. I saw that he was in the there with several women and some children. 2 of the children had on swim suits. He probably changed his mind after some of his friends or relatives had showed up...
