My Partner and I desperately needed some R&R and time away from our busy lives. After extensive research I came across Glynn House Inn. We had quite the list for what we wanted, and this B&B did NOT disappoint! We required 1. Fireplace 2. Hot tub / whirlpool bath 3. Pet friendly. If this is what you want, look no further.
When we arrived we walked right in as if it was our home - and this will be the "theme" of my review. Glynn greeted us at the door and knew exactly who we were. We were brought into the sitting room then the kitchen where we were offered "red or white" wine or sherry. So impressive to be greeted with wine immediately! We were faced with the infamous "DVD wall" that they have. This wall is so awesome! It's like a little blockbuster video right there for you to borrow from. We took a few flicks, filled out our paper work, greeted their loving and darling Dalmatians, had a few laughs and were lead to our digs.
Glynn brought us into the Carriage House, which is pet friendly - and when I say that I think it is just Doggos - no cats. We stayed in the Roosevelt Suite which I believe is the best room in the entire Inn. I say this because it has the most square footage and amenities. Just skip the rest and book Roosevelt. You feel like you have your own apartment in the Carriage House.
We stayed two nights. Night #1 we went to get take out Sushi and wanted to enjoy the room. We did! We put a DVD in and it was a little interesting with the Sony Trinitron - made me feel like I was young haha! The picture needed some adjusting but we enjoyed the movie. After, we drew a bath and sat in the lux bathroom of the Roosevelt suite. It is important to remember that this is a VERY old house. Part of why you go there is for the age of the house. We just loved the heavily New England finishes and feel to the room. The finishes are Brass which reminds me of the 90's - very very nice. The tub worked perfectly and we felt so relaxed and calm!
Breakfast was a complete highlight at Glynn House - we LOVED the beauty of the main house. There is a great window in the dining room that showcases the beauty that lies just outside. You feel like you are eating among the trees! Glynn is a very gracious host and is SO attentive to your needs. They have a very diverse menu that caters to all - very inclusive. I had the Pesto toast with poached eggs. They make eggs exactly how you like them, every time. Glynn engages you in wonderful conversation and offers fantastic things to do when you are in Ashland and the surrounding area.
We mentioned several times how we felt like we were "home" and visiting our parents from out of town. Just so very "home-ie" and cozy - we just were able to enjoy each other without the stress of having to deal with much else. Our 16 pound Dachshund did really well. They offer a place to take him out and he felt welcome too - we liked that.
I should also plug that as a gay couple we felt very comfortable and welcome! They are very open minded and friendly - they really love what they do. Like most B&B owners, they have a history of past careers and lives - which brought them to New Hampshire. I feel lucky to have spent the weekend there. We can't...
Read moreFrom the moment we arrived at the front door of the “apartment” under the Carriage House, I knew we were in trouble. The stoop was incredibly dirty and the track along the bottom of the door was filled to the top with dirt. Not to mention the filthy table, chairs and grille. Upon entering the first thing you notice is the drooping ceiling where there has been a water issue, thus the moldy smell. As we started to walk around it was if you were walking on sand/dirt everywhere. Fortunately there was a vacuum in the closet, or so I thought. The hose and container were so full, it wouldn’t pick up the smallest of things. So, after cleaning the disgusting machine and emptying it, I HAD TO VACUUM THE ENTIRE PLACE. There were spiders and all kinds of things going up that hose. I walked the garbage bag full of stuff up to Glen so I could get a broom to sweep the porch. His response was “I’m so sorry, I would have done it”. Something that should have been done long before our arrival. Upon returning to the room, we discovered every flat surface from the kitchen counters to the bathroom was covered in dirt and filth. This was a call to Glen’s wife who said she’d be down in 30 minutes. After appearing in the room, from a creepy door, by the head of the bed, she began her inspection. It only took a few seconds before she said the housekeeper would be fired. “At $20.00 an hour, she’s done nothing”. She said she would take care of it, but that was impossible and we knew it. It was late in the day, we had been traveling all day and she said there were two big weddings in town and everything was booked. And that appeared to be true, after doing a quick search of anything else in the area. We knew we were stuck for the night. We asked for extra sheets to lay over the furniture and towels to lay on the floor in the bathroom. After finding hair in the sheets, we slept on top of the duvet (and I use that word loosely) which appeared clean. After a horrible night of sleep, we decided to try the breakfast we had paid for. After turning my coffee cup upright so Glen could fill it, there was bright pink lipstick on the rim. I looked up at him and said “This really sums everything up here”. He was really indignant at this point and huffed off. We got up, went back and loaded our car without even showering. Upon arrival and looking at the shower, there was hair and live spiders in it too. Not to mention the cold water didn’t work on one sink and the other sink hardly drained. E travel extensively and this has to be the worst experience we have ever had. I told Glen, this was disrupting our travel plans because we were booked for two nights so we could see the area. He could have cared less. I asked for our invoice and he said it would be emailed that day. It’s been 3.5 days and nothing. At one point, this was probably a very nice property, but things have definitely changed. There is deferred maintenance everywhere you look and it’s not hard to see. You are taking a huge risk staying...
Read moreMy wife and I had the opportunity to spend our 5 year wedding anniversary at the Glynn House Inn. We were greeted promptly and taken to the Adams Suite which already had wonderful accommodations for our elderly dog: a bed, water bowl, and food bowl with treats. This meant a lot to us since she is like our child. We were shown how to use the fireplace and tub, and told about the binder of information which did become useful during our stay. There are not enough nice things to say about the owners as they are VERY knowledgeable of the area and sites to see with great recommendations. Our biggest issues especially due to the cost of stay are: VERY uncomfortable bed. Not the size, just very uncomfortable. Drainage issue with toilet the first night, and had to wait until after 7 am for a plunger! In the binder of useful information, there is a statement about leaving gratuity for the housekeeping staff claiming they are in high school, paying for college or single mothers… which basically a previous review summed it up well… you pay enough to stay there, and what does it matter what type of person the housekeeping people are? Besides we had a dog, and they were told not to come into the room…. So we asked to leave clean towels outside our room, the first time was fine, the next day we asked the same thing and they actually went IN the room to leave towels. Luckily we took the dog for a walk at that time. Could not use fireplace due to regulated temperature in room (which I understand but really wanted to be able to use it, part of the reason we stayed at a B&B and not a local chain) The book states the A/C is set to 72 degrees… it happened to be higher than normal temps during our stay this time of year and the room was a little humid at 78? Couldn’t use the jetted tub past 10:00pm. I get it…. Other people complained in the past of noise so they stopped it but for us, a long day out on the town we really wanted to relax in the tub and then drink wine by the fire of which we couldn’t do. Hor derves. If you offer hor derves …. And that is a selling point of your stay for the cost you expect maybe something with a little more bite than cheese and crackers with a glass of wine. The breakfast time was also an issue with us. A small place, lots of people trying to eat at the same time… but there were options and the food was very fresh and made to order. People who have pets did not clean up after them on the property which made it very aggravating when taking our dog trying not to step in everyone else’s stuff, when there is a trash can right there! Overall our stay was nice… great to get away and have time to ourselves, no computers or phones just us and our pup. Would we stay again should we pass through the area? We would look at other options for sure, but definitely stop in and say hello to...
