A true gem here in New Hampshire! This storied railroad station was built by the Boston, Concord & Montreal Railroad 150 years ago in 1869, and today provides an almost unmatched look back into how the railroads impacted the rural parts of New Hampshire. The building has been beautifully restored by the Ashland Historical Society and houses amazing examples of local railroad history. There are many railroad stations still extant in New Hampshire, but with many being owned privately and off limits to the public, a place such as this is invaluable. The presence of an active railroad line adds to the feeling of nostalgia. On the grounds you will also find a watchman's shanty, a state landmark sign, and across the street the accompanying freight depot is privately owned and used as an art studio. Whether you are a railroad enthusiast, a history buff, or just looking for something interesting to check out in the upper Lakes Region, be sure to stop in and visit. Also, you can actually get off a train here as the Winnipesaukee Scenic Railroad's fall foliage trains stop here on the return trip for...

When visitors come into the station I ask them if they want me to spell their names in Morse. Everyone says, "Yes, please!" Perhaps I'll get to spell your name in the future. Be sure to mention you read...

Hopefully if you're in the area during the summer months you can stop inside and take in all this museum...
