My family and I stayed here because it was the most reasonably priced lodging for a short-term visit for our visit to Acadia National Park. The hotel is about an 1 1/2 away, which was totally fine but this hotel is aged and it's obvious. It's very standard which like I said, for a short stay, it's fine but if I was there for a longer period I don't think I would've been happy.
The rooms randomly didn't have trash bags which was a bit odd. The bathroom had noticeable dirty spots and our comforter had some staining at the bottom. Luckily, I always travel with my own pillowcase, blankets, and sheets for events such as these. Upon check-in we decided to order from the restaurant, an the results were varied. The fried ravioli was good but nothing special, the majority of the mozzarella topping sat at the bottom of the container. My group enjoyed the lobster rolls and crab cakes the most. My biggest gripe was by far the chicken piccata. The chicken was oddly cooked, I'm not sure what the outer layer was but it was soggy. The chicken was also unseasoned. The worst part was the vast amount of lemon juice they put on this dish. The lemon was so overwhelming I couldn't even finish the $22.00 dish. Ending on a positive, the lava cake was pretty good. Now for the worst part of our experience. We got stuck in the elevator! We were holding the door open so everyone could get it. The door closed and the elevator didn't move. We tried to reopen the doors. Nothing. We hit the call button which took a minute to even get a response, advised them of the issue and they stated "okay". For another 2m we stayed locked in the elevator which in that scenario felt so much longer. The second the doors opened after the repair man came, we ran for the stairs. The state of the elevator was already questionable and I should've trusted my instincts...but yeah, ride at your own risk.
Be sure to take your parking ticket inside so it can be validated. Lastly, I don't want to just point out the negatives because that would be biased so I want to add that the staff was kind. I wish I could remember the gentleman's name that checked us in because he was a standout! My sister is blind and she booked the room. When he realized that she was the individual that reserved the room, he spoke to her directly and like an adult and didn't refer to me once which is a positive! Often times, people will talk about her in front of her as if she can't hear them or they'll ask me what she needs or how to help her. He was so wonderful! We literally told everyone! So in closing, the hotel is mid, the food was a hit or miss, the elevator is potentially a death trap and the...
Read moreThe Aviator hotel is right across the street from the Bangor airport, connected by a covered gangway. The rooms are well appointed and comfortable, and importantly, soundproof. We had two small issues that I'm sure the staff would have fixed had it not been late at night when we discovered that some needed USB ports weren't working, and that the blackout shade was stuck -- leaving a light gap in the window. I don't count that against them.
Our main complaint had to do with rude staff. We had issues and questions about breakfast and parking, and three out of four staff members were curt and dismissive. We also needed a luggage trolley, and guy said nonchalantly, "Oh, we don't really use those anymore. I think there might be one over there," and pointed me toward a hallway. So here I am at 103 pounds struggling to maneuver this large, heavy thing into the elevator diagonally (because that's the only way it fits barely), and he's just standing there watching me. Fortunately I had help on the way back. I didn't expect him to take it to the car, but he could have at least helped me get it into the elevator so the doors could close the first- rather than the third time.
Please note that while there is a restaurant, it is for pilots/airline personnel only -- unless you booked through a third party and added it on, which is what we did. The staff gave us a hard time about it. The one lady who checked us in said it was in the system, and we could get our breakfast coupon in the morning. When we tried to do that, another staff person said she didn't have a record of that. We had to dig through our documents to find the small print that said "incl breakfast".
All in all, the hotel was good and convenient, but the experiences with staff ruined it for us. Note that we gave it a second chance, and the service issues continued. They have no incentive to be friendly and service oriented because the hotel is the only option next to the airport. Next time, we will stay elsewhere and just...
Read moreThe aviator hotel is literally across from the airport. If you are flying and need a place, this is ideal. A pet friendly hotel for a marginal fee (aside from service animals). We traveled with a pet and came to this hotel based off that and other reviews here. Interestingly enough, the lobby is located on a different floor than the ground floor entrance, however the gym is located there. The gym is nicely stocked and clean. Parking will cost $8 in the short term lot. There are a few eateries in the area that are close. The rooms are equipped with a mini fridge and a microwave, which means leftovers are fine. We did not use the pool, but I believe there is one. The aviator is surprisingly quiet for being in the close proximity of an airport. I heard maybe 1 or 2 planes very subtly, and heard no other animals bark or make noise. Bathrooms are on the smaller side. Ours had a tub. Rooms were clean. Electricity seems to be an afterthought in the design. Outlets are hard to find and in inconvenient places, so if you want to charge your phone next to the bed, nope. The room has 1 light switch which controls a hall light. I'd think there would be a 3 way switch for a central light. Electric from lamps is run via conduit down the wall. All lights in the room are basically lamps. Not that this is awful, it's just showing that nobody planned for electric. There are also power strips all over the place mainly full due to the lack of outlets. In today's world, everyone is charging multiple things. Check in is easy and the hotel send you a message to pre check in making things smoother. The hotel is fairly modern looking. There is also a restaurant we did not visit. Breakfast is an additional $15, but we went elsewhere. Not a bad place in a great location. I'd return if...
