I was charged a prepaid room rate when I called the hotel directly to make my reservation. Three additional phone calls with different staff members did not lead to a resolution and each phone call I made was met with complete indifference and not even an apology until I pointed out on the fourth call that no one had even offered a simple apology.
I attempted to find another hotel but because the booking for the rooms was last minute, I was unable to find another place to stay so we I did not call back a 5th time to speak with a manager as I had originally intended to. I had already wasted way too much time on a simple weekend trip to visit by son at Western so more time talking to the unhelpful staff seemed pointless.
Our king suite room was changed last minute to a king deluxe. I will note that we were offered free breakfast vouchers and a lower rate in for the inconvenience by the friendly staff member who called me to tell me about the change. He was the only staff member who was polite and friendly during our stay.
Our room was not cleaned while were there by housekeeping and we were not offered an explanation or asked whether we needed new towels or toiletries.
The hot tub had fuzz and hair floating in it. During one trip to the pool area, there were no towels.
The staff member who checked our family in was friendly but the others we saw while we were there did not make eye contact or say hello or good morning or good evening or acknowledge our existence when we passed through the small area by the desk in front of the elevators.
The only positive was that the diner style breakfast offered there was tasty and the location is great for getting to downtown, Fairhaven and Western although there are other hotels similarly located.
I have traveled extensively and have stayed at many different types of hotels in many cities/towns in the US and internationally and this was without a doubt the worst hotel I've stayed at in over a decade.
I will not return here when we visit our son at Western again and I certainly do NOT recommend this hotel to anyone else...
Read moreWe stayed at this hotel while visiting friends in the area, with most of our time spent in downtown Bellingham, which was about a 10 minute drive, if that. The restaurant experiences were positive, with decent food and really nice staff. We appreciated the free coffee in the lobby. The parking is free and the parking lot is spacious.
The property itself is pretty inviting as you enter it, with a lot of seating and a fireplace. The scent is overwhelming at first, it seems very floral and seems to be a machine-pumped fragrance, which can tend to make me itch or get congested, so maybe it was just a tiny bit too strong. But everyone was nice and the process was easy.
Elevators are throughout, although somewhat difficult to navigate as there is a series of doors throughout the floors that are closed, so to get to the lobby of the hotel can take some navigating. One or two of the entry doors from the parking lot were not working, which was not ideal in heavy rain. Especially since this kind of hotel is one where you are able to park near your wing of the hotel.
The rooms themselves were okay - the heat/ac sounded like an old time car starting and to be kept on auto, you had to accept the sudden jolt of noise. The freeway sounds were constant as well, and if you want to sleep past 8am, be prepared to hear very noticeable housekeeping thumping, dropping of items, etc. It was jarringly loud. The blinds were very effective, with two very close to the frame layers of roll-down blinds. Great for darkness. The bathroom is fine, and the shower comfy (aside from some patching of cracks in the actual shower floor).
Overall, there is a lot of wasted space due to the huge center opening in the building, which contains the pool. Not sure anything can be done with that, but it detracts for sure.
If you have an electric car, charging is available at Fred Meyer, which essentially shares the parking lot. That was a real value-add.
I wouldn’t rush to stay here but wouldn’t be upset to stay here. It was fine for our needs, so it just depends on your purpose and the price of the rooms...
Read moreOn arrival I waited 10 minutes for the security to walk up to me and asked if I needed help.(The person behind the front desk was in the office and could clearly see and heard my companion and I standing at the front desk, but kept talking on her phone. From the sound of the conversation it was personal). The security walked up to the front desk and stated there's someone here. The person that was supposed to be behind the front desk yelled out " I'll be with you" and continued her phone conversation. After 5 minutes she came out. She then asked if I had a reservation, I stated yes. She then asked me for two pieces of ID. I presented my California Driver's license and my debit card. She then look for my reservation. She stated that my name was not on the credit card and she needed to see the card and the person who's name appears on the card. My daughter made the reservation for me and was home in bed. I phoned my daughter and explained what was said to me. I then put my daughter on the phone to speak with the person behind the front desk. She explained to my daughter that she needed to be present in order to honor this reservation. My daughter explained to the person behind the front desk that she was not told she had to be there. I stated that I'll go pick up my daughter and will return. On arrival back to the Sheridon, again no one was behind the front desk. I was speaking loud enough for anyone to hear. The same person came to the desk and my daughter explained the situation and took out her card. The clerk did not look at my daughter's card she proceeded to check me in. I believe she could have been a little more courteous and respectful but this experience was more than I expected to deal with being I was tired and I was not interested in debating with this clerk. I had a very difficult time falling asleep that night. This experience ruined my stay. It's the one and only time I'll ever stay at the Sheridon. Beverly...
