I called the 866 number on a Monday to make sure I reserved a spot from Friday to Monday. I told them I wanted to do some tent camping. And I didn't need electricity. They booked me a spot at there equestrian camp. Which is 9 miles from the actual state park. We'll when I got there it was only me. And no rules had been explained. I pulled up and my spot was H01. Well, put up my tent in the woods in a place where it was flat. This was on a Friday night. I wasn't bothering anybody and there was no one else there. We'll that night some state park officer was worried enough to come up to me to let me know i shouldn't be in the woods cause it's not permitted, I asked why and she couldn't tell me all she could tell me is she was worried about where my van was parked, because it wasn't on there gravel. I told her I parked it were I parked it because I wanted to keep it's contents safe as they amounted to $5000 and I am a sound sleeper. She looked at me with a very blank stair as if she couldn't understand normal human worries. Then she said we'll it should be okay where you are at because no one is here tonight. But if other ppl come in tomorrow it could become an issue. And I wondered why because I was in a place that wouldn't bother anyone and they could use my site for there horses if they came. We'll next day it was still just me. I was sitting on my chair just reading my book listing to celtic music. Not bothering the zero people that were there. And to my surprise here comes park ranger no name and her superior park ranger Powell. They told me I couldn't be in the woods. And I asked them why. They told me it's because if they let me do it, they would have to let everyone else do it. I said look around who is here? They said thats not the point. I had to put up my tent in the designated area. But in that area there is no place that is flatter then a 3/12 pitch. They then sat in there truck and watched me empty out my tent move it to the desolate area they wanted me to. And then give some other lady a ticket. I called the park and told them what happened and they said oh well thats the rules. Yet the so called rules were never specified to me. That i said I would like to talk to their management. They said it's online which it's not. I will say there is nowhere you can go in the USA to get away from these mindless zombies that just love to were badges and vests and just repeat well it's the law" But can't tell you were the law came from or why it exists. We'll if I could give this park negative...
Read moreAlum Creek State Park provides a fantastic campground with the majority of the sites being spacious and shaded. One of the nice amenities is this well maintained campground beach! It is nothing compared to the public beach, but this one has SHADE! There are a few picnic tables to sit at and several trees to escape the sun! The sand was clean as well as the water. The campground is very large, so you will most likely drive to the beach if you are staying on the other side of the park. But the good thing is there is an actual parking lot provided. Some campground beaches don't have this and folks park on the grass. So glad they provide the beach, convenient and you don't have to leave...
Read moreCamp site B36 has to be one of the most beautiful spots in the entire park. I just randomly picked it for a winter camp week and wow! I saw an Eagle, a Beaver, Squirrel, Raccoons. Lots of Raccoons!!! My recommendation is - do not leave food out. Raccoons will definitely find it and eat it while scaring the feces out of you while you’re trying to sleep. I’ve added a couple pics from my vantage point at B36. Amazing spot is what I want to share. I was tent camping by the way. They have electric hookup at that spot but not...
