This is a decent motel. There is free onsite parking available (but could get crowded when full). The rooms have been renovated with laminate flooring and tub inserts to make it feel new and fresh. The mattress was firm and comfortable. The staff was very friendly, the location is both a benefit and a downside.
While the rooms have been renovated, there are somethings that could be improved. The door jam at the base of the door needed to be replaced/repaired. During the day, you can see out of the door if you look under the bottom edge. At night, all the parking lot lights are on, so the room doesn't get very dark, and you certainly won't need a night light to see. Bring a sleep mask if you are sensitive to light while sleeping. The TV was a consumer grade smart TV with installed apps, but the only option you had to watch TV was using Pluto with it's free channel line up. The previous renters info was still "signed in" on Amazon Prime, and Netflix. There was not any kind of hotel management software installed, so it's all about the previous users. They did NOT have any satellite/cable hooked up to the TV's either. The motel does offer free wifi which was a decent speed (10Mbps down, 2 up).
Breakfast was standard free breakfast with sausage links, eggs, seasoned potatoes, waffle irons with premade mix, biscuits and gravy, and cold cereal. Coffee and OJ was available. It would have been nice to have some fruit available.
The location was good. It sits right on the main road (highway 191). This makes it convenient to find. The downside, traffic can be a little noisy. I know I was awakened at least once by a loud vehicle driving by. There are several places to get food nearby, and a convenience store/bowling alley/A&W Pizza parlor is within walking distance. Yes, I said that correct, it's an A&W burger joint that also offers pizza.
Overall, it was a good place to stay. If you must have live TV, then you may need to pick a different place.
I tried to upload photos, but they...
Read moreMy family of 5 stayed at Bears Ear Inn in May 2025. We stayed in one of the family suites and were grateful to have accommodations for 5 people (and space to spread out a bit) for what we considered to be a reasonable price. Staff was very friendly.
Our king bed was quite comfortable. However, the end rail on the children's bunk bed was broken, making the bed wobbly when climbing up or shifting around. The bed itself still seemed secure as the broken piece wasn’t part of the support structure.
We had enough towels for five people! Hooray! Too often we book for 5 people but receive 4 towels. We also appreciated having an oven so we could bake pizza from the local grocery store for dinner after a long day exploring.
All in all, we enjoyed our stay but found ourselves scratching our heads at some details of our suite. For example, the sink is outside of the toilet (that’s nice so someone can brush teeth while someone showers) and has a long counter to put toiletries on but there is no towel rod to hang a hand towel. Please install one! A few hooks in the bathroom would also be nice.
The kitchenette lacks a few things I usually find in hotel kitchenettes: namely dish soap, drinking glasses, a cutting board, a strainer, and a pot holder are a few of the items missing that would make preparing a meal easier.
I liked that the room had floors instead of carpet but the floors were soft in a few spots and actually broken in one spot under the bathroom rug. The AC filters were completely clogged. My husband cleaned them a bit so air could actually circulate.
The kitchen area was sizable but there was not kitchen table, which meant we had to eat our dinner while sitting on the beds. Not ideal.
We would stay at Bears Ear Inn again if we were in the area because it was affordable, but it would be ever so helpful if the family suite received a few additions. Hopefully this review will help some other families be...
Read moreWe traveled through Blanding coming back from a trip to Arizona, in the middle of the stormy aftermath of Hurricane Hilary. Our first hotel was okay, but our stay in Bears Inn South was lovely. The beds were soft. There were TVs in the living room, both bedrooms, & a lot of outlets (including ones on either side of the bed). We had a room that slept 8, with a queen and a set of real bunkbeds in one; comfortable, easy-to-get-out-of sofas (old woman here) that made our into beds (also checked for comfort) in the living room; and a king in our room. The kitchen was spacious and, above all, useable, with a nice table and chairs and space to cook, if one were to wish to do so. Breakfast was wonderful, served from 7:00 to 9:00, with a lot of choices, not just donuts. The coffee was delicious. We even met the manager, Dennis, who was courteous & helpful, and the crew, who had made our rooms clean and welcoming. We do hope the bedside lamps are in place by the time of your stay. It was my one complaint, but a small one, and a surprise to the manager, leaving me with a few questions but a surety that it will not be an issue the next time we stay here. And there will be a next time! Thank you, Dennis, with deep thanks to the whole crew. You made the last night of our travels very...
