This company with “decades of experience” will make you feel like a burden, take your all of money, and blame it on you.
The house we stayed at was dirty and far below any reasonable expectation. Broken chairs, cigarette butts in the fire place, and a persistent, dank smell of mold and wood. Many of these issues would be easy fixed with a dehumidifier or a semi-regular cleaner.
It was nothing like their website claimed or original promised us and not even close to the featured testimonials on their website.
When we reached out to the company, they told us that since we “were not nicer”, they wouldn’t do anything to remedy the situation.
Halfway through, we booked elsewhere to stay. This company will likely comment on this review and say we are unreasonable, untrustworthy, and unkind.
A bold statement for a company that is unwilling to take accountability for a situation that was completely fixable. Instead of even attempting to remedy or simply make us feel better, they chose to victimize themselves and gaslight us.
This is a company who may have started with caring about their guests about a decade ago. But perhaps a decade of experience has made them bitter and calloused.

Update in response to their reply: I appreciate you posting the entirety of my first email to you. I believe people should read it. I stand by my words, and I will not let you bully me into feeling bad for being frank, honest, and direct with a business I had just paid $1700 to for a vacation.
So, to anyone who considers renting with Maine Rentals, they will lie to you. They will give you excuses. They will gaslight you into thinking that somehow you're the problem or the cause of the issue. What they will NOT do is give you a refund or make you feel like they...
Read moreThe place was large, very clean, and in a quiet location with two decks overlooking the water. It has a large kitchen with everything we needed for meal preparation, and all the beds were very comfortable. The decor was old-school but nostalgic and very well done. For a family of six it had plenty of room with two full bathrooms. The internet connection was solid the entire time. There was plenty of fun family things to do at the house and around Deer Isle, along with being close to Acadia National Park, Bar Harbor, Belfast, and other small towns that had many restaurants, stores, art galleries, and historical sites to enjoy. There are also many beautiful local and state parks nearby, along with hundreds of hiking, kayaking, and scenic views opportunities all relatively close the house. We truly felt like we were in Maine, and not just in a tourist location with everyone else. Whenever I had a question the owners were quick to respond and very helpful. This was a great first experience renting a house this way. I highly recommend Shangri-La, especially...
Read moreI’ve tried to book two different properties through this agency. According to their website calendar and Airbnb calendars they were both available, but then after they let my request expire without responding, I finally called to see what was going on. They told me that both were already booked.
When I first talked to them (shortly after the new year) they said the reason the sites hadn’t updated was due to the holiday break and that I should check back in a week. Now, three weeks later, nothing appears to have changed and all of the rental sites they list on are still showing their rental properties as available even though they are not. It’s been a very frustrating...
