For starters, we checked in on Sunday, August 4th, around 9 pm. The room, which was supposedly the last available, had a smoky scent, indicating that the previous occupants were likely smokers. They could have aired out the room, but instead, we were given an air freshener.
On Monday morning at 6:45, I went for breakfast. The food was great, and I particularly enjoyed the little quiche. Being a chocolate milk lover, I decided to take some to drink with my cereal later and grabbed a few cartons for my family. Around 11:25, my older sister mentioned that her chocolate milk tasted bad, so I poured it out. As I poured it down the sink, I noticed it was frothy and bubbly, but I thought it was just shaken.
Later, around 11:50, I wanted to have some cereal. Remembering my sister’s comment, I decided to check my milk before using it. I poured some into a cup and discovered it was old and chunky, resembling chocolate cheese. The expiration date was August 9, which I thought was still valid. My sister advised me to go to the front desk. I showed the front desk attendant the spoiled milk, and he spoke to the lady handling the food. She gave me a new carton, explaining that the milk I took had spoiled because it was at the front of the fridge.
To be cautious, I tasted the new milk before using it with my cereal. Surprisingly, it was also spoiled. Unsure if it was just my imagination, I took two more sips. I went back to the front desk, apologized for the inconvenience, and got another milk. I returned to my room, waiting for the cleaning lady to finish so I could eat in peace. After she left around noon, I drank the milk, but it was spoiled again. Feeling slightly queasy from the previous sips of bad milk, I went back to the front desk and saw a different lady. I apologized for the trouble and explained the situation. Thankfully, she took action and threw out the spoiled milk.
Having to visit the front desk three times was frustrating. If I had stayed in my room the first time, other guests could have gotten very sick from the spoiled milk. The lady handling the food should have checked the expiration dates instead of blaming the spoilage on the fridge being opened too often.
We already had a discount on our room, so the desk attendant offered to add points to our rewards card for our next stay. Despite this, I threw out three cartons of milk that had expired the day before. Drinking that milk has left my stomach feeling upset. I've stayed at other Marriott locations without issues, so this experience was particularly disappointing. I also blame myself for not checking the expiration dates, but please excuse this oversight as I am still in...
