Dunes Motel — Hotel in Burt Township

Perfect place for group of guys that are just looking for a reasonably priced place to sleep, shower, watch TV and maybe cook a frozen pizza for a quick hot meal before bed. The staff is friendly and accommodating. Not a place for a snobby Princess. Take her to the Holiday Inn where she will have all her princess needs met. This place has nice radiant hot water heat. The tap water tastes better than bottled water. Nice flat screen cable TV and WiFi. The beds are a little on the hard side. Which is the only thing I would suggest the owners upgrade as soon as possible. Preferably before we come back next winter! You should maybe consider upgrading your wireless router to like an AC 1750 or better also. We had to be close to the front window to pick up the WiFi. We were very happy with our stay at the Dunes Motel. We had our doubts based on the pictures, but our room (#2) was comfortable, clean, and convenient. The kitchen and bathroom was a walk down memory lane as we were reminded of things our grandparents had. So yes, outdated, but the price was great.

The motel is walking distance to everything, which we had not expected. The owner, who just bought the place, was incredibly friendly. She has her work cut out for her, but that’s ok because even with things as they are now, it’s a fine place to stay if you give it a chance.

The only thing I would ask of them is to not use Pine Sol when they clean because it’s a strong smell and I had to re-wash the floors (which were very clean) with vinegar and water to get rid of the chemical smell of...

There's worn, then run down. This was even further down the scale. Owners were nice, beds were comfortable and appeared clean, but that was it. From appearances there is virtually no maintenance going on. A place being run into the ground while the owners try to extract every last bit from it? This was the last room I could find in Grand Marais for July 2021, and perhaps I now know why. There was unrepaired damage to almost every surface I could look at in the room. Cracked sink, Three layers of flashing around the edge of the tub (but not cleaned), torn shades, carpet repaired by just screwing down an aluminum strip.
