My wife and I definitely enjoyed our stay even though I was a bit skeptical never having stayed at an Inn before. This was like stepping back through time in all the best ways. It was classic Americana, vintage New England in all its majesty, even across from a white steeple church!
Pat and his son Jacob made quite the team and moved with precision and expertise but always took enough time to make you feel like more than just another guest. The lodge is welcoming and stocked with the books and board games, comfy seating and a gas fireplace. Victorian-era mouldings made the space feel rich with history and the white tin embossed ceiling perfectly contrasted with the original maple floors. Rough-hewn boards, where no two were alike joined together by seemingly ancient grout.
Our room was modest, cosy and wonderfully utilitarian. However, it was thoughtfully furnished with a good selection of satellite DirectTV, a space heater (to supplement the central gas radiator heating) and a small fan.
Pat is a fantastic cook and an even nicer man. We tried every breakfast option available during our stay and they were all great!
He offered to hold a room for us when we were concerned we may not be able to make our itinerary due to inclement icy weather. Would recommend SNI over the resort any time. Quick drive, that's rather scenic and doable in most conditions without worry.
The restaurant/ bar downstairs is also really good. And the accessibility to mainstreet / cupboard deli...
Read moreA wonderful place to stay for skiers, snowboarders, and holidaymakers who'd rather not deal with the bustle of Smuggler's Notch Resort. The rooms are lovely and very well-kept. During my stay, a blizzard cut my skiing intentions short, but it was perfectly fine since the Broken Yoke and the Village Tavern are both connected to the Inn, allowing one to have daily meals at a reasonable cost and have a drink while watching the snow fall cozily from within.
The Innkeeper, Lisa, is a very professional proprietor. When I attempted to leave at the end of the weekend, my car burst a radiator hosepipe just on the outskirts of town. After being towed and given a prognosis of the next day being the soonest time for replacement, the Inn was very accommodating as I booked a room for an additional night. The next day when my car was ready, Lisa even gave me a ride to the garage.
I highly recommend the Smuggler's Notch in to anyone who needs a warm and comfortable bed in a warm and comfortable place, whether they be Vermonters or...
Read moreThe picture attached is of the shower. When we asked about it being cleaned, we were told that we could cancel our reservation and leave. We said that we would need to talk further before canceling due to no other options that we knew about. We left for a short time for dinner and discussion and returned to be told that we had already been cancelled and our rooms sold to someone else. We never did cancel...they canceled us because we complained about the filth in the picture. The couches were dirty, dirty floors, dining room looked like a storage room, furniture dirty and looks like it was found by dumpster diving. Even the puzzle pieces on the tables had a thick layer of dust. The innkeeper could not have possibly cared any less for our request for cleaning. The attendant lied and said that we said to cancel and give us a refund...we never said that, never. We still had our bags in the rooms to come back from supper to be told that our rooms were cancelled and sold to someone else. The entire...
