Not Romantic or Dog Friendly.
Our anniversay trip with our 1 yr old Dachshund and 6 yr old Cardigan. The Good; Super friendly porter/driver, carted all our "stuff" up to our room for us. Waiting for us was a Happy Anniversary Balloon and a small bag of chocolates. Nice! The morning breakfast was almost awesome, amazing cherry pie, delicious sausage links (the best!) potatoes, bagels, cereals, HOT oatmeal, soy milk , nice toaster waffles, orange juice, yogurt, the scrambled eggs were not good, they need a new recipie. The large trays to cart a breakfast back to your room were nice, So a 4 out of 5 for breakfast, the ladies helping in break room were GREAT! The hotel locaton is amazing, there is a nice (wet) lawn fronting the walk-out dog rooms on the first floor, views of the "rock" are awesome. Access to the beach is easy-peasy. There is a washing station, (used by the public also, muddy and not maintained) on the SW end of the building. Our mattress was ok, to hard for our old hips. Good pillow selection. Gas fireplace, Small tv, Realy Tiny Bathroom, (one person at a time), lots of cheap towels. The Bad: The room type was a total mis-comunication. We booked online a King with a soaking tub, making it clear we had dogs. The room type was not available upon arrival if you have dogs! So they charged us for that type room but put us in a "dog room" which is $100 less a night but upon check-out they up-charged us. This hotel seems to be "all about the money". Most all the folks in reception were Very helpful and friendly, all the ladies were great and 1 out of the 3 guys (the cute bald guy) the other two guys had random bad attitudes and smirked at us constantly, not a willing helpful attitude! Nichole was GREAT. The BAD; the sprinklers on the lawn came on every morning right when most, and us, with dogs were taking them out for the morning potty, making the lawn un-usable because the irrigation was on for 40 minutes making the lawn not usable and then soaking wet and un-usable for at least a hour afterwards. Our first morning there we, 3 of us guest, out with 5 dogs from the rooms next to us, when the sprinklers came on, they startled my dogs while I was taking a photo of the setting moon, I turned, slipped on the now wet rocks and fell, breaking my middle finger. It was obvious the hotel did NOT want us using the lawn in the AM esentially making it un-usable from 5:45 -8:00. Check-out was really bad, we left at 11:55 on Monday morning and the man, boy? at the desk was to lazy to get up and help a abviously strugging old man with his loaded cart as I tried to roll it thru the lobby, he asked if I needed help and I replied sarcasticly "oh No" he did not get up to open the doors for me nor the other older man in front of me who was struggling to get his cart past the heavy closed doors, he was even older 80? The rooms are noisy, they have lots of nice new cabinets, but have none of the little silicone bumper dots to soften the slaming of the doors, the hinges are spring loaded so they all slam, (maybe they intended to order soft-close hinges?) when the guest in the rooms around us used their cabinets, it was Slam, Slam, Slam, like firecrackers going off. We had people with a child above us, obviously jumping off the bed and running around the room from early in the morning until late at night. We called and got one of the "attitude" guys who was not helpful, at all. Nothing improved after our asking nicely if they just could call and remind the people above us that there were guest below, no follow up from reception and it only got worse after that. We so wanted this anniversary trip to be better than it was, as always it is the little things that make a difference. At home we can improve those things, at a Hotel most managers don't notice or care to make the little changes to make it more comfortable and enjoyable for their guest. This hotel just...
Read moreI stayed here in April for a few days with a friend and two excited doggos! I can’t say enough about this place. The room was well appointed with comfortable seating options, a large flat screen, DVD player with a comprehensive lending library, a lovely gas fireplace, and pleasant, albeit typical beach hotel decor. The linens and towels were of high quality. Crisp, cool sheets with a high weave count, and large, soft, fluffy towels! There was no bleach smell or unnatural fabric softener scent, just clean and lovely towels and bedding! The mattress was like a cloud! I have a very high end mattress at home and this bed felt just as good. I also appreciated havjng pillows of variable firmness on the bed.
The check-in process was fast, friendly, informative, and so welcoming. Hot, fresh coffee and cookies (varieties rotate daily) and dog treats are always available in the lobby and every night wine is generously poured during happy hour. In the room there was a welcome basket with treats, toys, poo bags, food dishes, and blankets for both dogs!
The inclusive breakfast offerings were tasty and with a variety more than sufficient to provide multiple hot and cold options daily. Not so great for a vegan but other dietary restrictions (gluten free, vegetarian, diabetic) are all accommodated.
The location is absolutely stunning! I stayed on the ground level with a sliding glass door that opened to a patio situated on a grassy bluff 5-6 feet above sea level. The sand was mere steps from the patio. Haystack Rock rising out of the Pacific slightly north of the property affords one with the quintessential Cannon beach feeling that brought you here. It is the very definition of ideal location!
Considering the high cost of the mediocre options in Seaside it’s no wonder why this hotel is booked weeks in advance. Do yourself a favor, plan ahead and stay here!!
One evening we left the dogs for an hour to have dinner in town and shortly after sitting down I received a call from the hotel because my dogs were barking non-stop disturbing another guest. The call from the hotel, potentially upsetting on multiple levels, was handled politely, discretely, and with obvious genuine concern for the dogs. There wasn’t even a hint of condemnation, annoyance, or judgement from the hotel.
At check out, generously extended to 2:00 PM, I found I ran my battery down by accidentally leaving the headlights on overnight. I barely finished telling the front desk what happened when a maintenance person seemingly materialized out of thin air with a solution. The whole process took less than 5 minutes. AAA quoted 2 hours!
This property offers an elevated service at a reasonable price point. The Ocean lodge is an outstanding choice when visiting Cannon Beach! I will return every time I...
Read moreVery seldom do I write reviews, but the Ocean Lodge deserves the highest accolades in reviews. This hotel is a 50 star hotel, not a 5 star in our opinion.
From the moment I made our reservation with Eli, I knew we were choosing a unique special place to stay. The Ocean Lodge is so personable and friendly as ALL employees are here to spoil you and make you enjoy your stay. In fact their professionalism is genuine and just top notch!!
We’ve enjoyed our 3 night stay with gorgeous ocean views, a 24 hour a day cozy warm fire in the lobby that brings back great childhood memories. Kate at the front desk is soooo friendly and even told us we could add more logs to the fire. Everything feels even better than home here.
Wait until you get to meet Patrick who is the jolliest of fellows who proudly drives you anywhere in Cannon Beach in a vintage 1957 Chevy Bellaire!! You even get to sing along to 50’s music which is the icing on top. Nothing like being with a guy who clearly LOVES his job.
Treat yourself to a stay of a lifetime at the Ocean Lodge. This place knows how to run a business as they roll out the red carpet to their customers. Included in your stay is free salt water taffy, homemade cookies, bottles of water, several snacks that most hotels charge a mortgage to enjoy, a 2 hour happy wine hour, a nightly nightcap, free parking, and a continental breakfast that is just a down home cooked meal with the warmest hospitality. The Ocean Lodge is worth EVERY PENNY!!
This was our first stay here, and we will gladly return - most likely with our kids. We can’t wait to return to the extraordinary service, and the friendliest employees pampering us so we can relax and get away from the everyday stresses of life. You can’t get that in the “chain” hotels - because it’s the same old drag.
Once again, thank you Ocean Lodge for a job well done - as you more than exceeded our expectations!!
Warmest thanks, The...
